How do you adjust the stitch length for the elina 40 please...?
To adjust the stitch length on the Elina 40 you need to select the stitch length function.
By pressing the function button next to the + and -, the stitch length is the third option from memory. Wh...
where is the berlina Elina 40 manufactured?
I can't find the manual for my machine does anyone know I can get another one?
You can buy a digital copy here:

It's a shame they don't offer them as a free download like other machines I've used.
I was going to ask the same questions. I have had an Elna Air Electronic for 38 years and they supplied a Manual and a Book on the different stitches.
This was the reason I bought the Elina 40 as I...
I've lost the foot controller for our Elina 40 in a move and need to get a new one. It's my mum's machine and Spotlight has been of no help. Can't find any on Ebay. Does anyone know how I order one direct or other foot controller I can buy that will work with it? Thank you! 0432170578
I'd try your local sewing machine repair shop - they often keep spares /2nd hand of these kinds of parts
I am trying to refill my bobbin and I am getting a error....Fc I have no idea what this means please help
Fc.. The power is turned on with the foot control not connected ..or ..foot control is disconnected.. solution: Connect the foot control and restart machine.. Note you can use machine without foot control..
If anyone has one, does the bobbin case move very much. My lifts quite a bit. And also moves when I see and makes a loud clicking noise.
Do you mean the actual bobbin? Yes sometimes mine jumps a little bit but it hasn't caused any problems. I think it seems worse when the bobbin is less full,
lost manual. please tell me how to raise and lower feed dogs?
If I remember rightly there is a small metal latch/lever on the right hand side just inside the bobbin case hatch. lifts up & down.
I found it for a friend about a month ago.
...
If you remove the extension table (where your accessories are kept) there is a lever behind there if you slide it to the right it will lower the feed dogs and then to replace them just slide the lever...
Read more back to the left :) My directions are for if you're sitting in front of the sewing machine, mine is an Elna Elina 40 if that helpsDoes anyone know if you can use a walking foot on this machine? I have borrowed one from a friend and the walking foot she has is an Elna one but does not appear to be able to be attached to this machine.
yep i have a walker foot on my machine and it works well(janome dc2101le samemachine )
I think the standard elna accessories don't fit the elina 40. I have the same problem with my machine and a piping foot I bought. I am going to try and see if I can get a new piece at the bottom where the feet connect to that is the standard size.
Yes! But you need to get the right foot, this depends on whether your machine has a top or front loading bobbin.
I would like to make a large buttonhole using my Elna 40 however the manual seems to indicate max size that can be done is 2.5cm - is there some way to make this larger? I need it to be a bit larger than this - ideally 3-4cm to easily fit straps through for a pram liner I am making. Thanks in advance for your help.
Sorry. Really have no idea.
I don't have this machine, but I've done a lot of sewing. I should think you could do it the old-fashioned way if there isn't a standard one that's big enough. Mark a bar with two ends on your fabric...
Read more. Make the stitch width very wide but short for the end-tack (sew a few times across and back) then go narrow (half-width) down the left side, very wide at the other end, then half-width to go up the right hand side. Finish with a few straight stitches down left side of buttonhole.Do I need to oil my machine?
I have never done this.
If it runs poorly and you use it lots you can have it serviced and they will oil it.. Most people would do this after several years of use. I wouldn't oil it unless you know what you're doing. You sho...
Read moreuld clean any fluff out of it though to keep it running well, this would be more important. KWhat causes a machine to skip stitches? It sews perfectly for a few inches then will skip a few or a lot of stitches. Then it starts working again.
Might be the tightening setting. You may want to refer this to the manfacturer. Mine never have this problem.
check that you have a sharp needle..so many problems are caused by using the wrong needle for the wrong fabric.. make sure the needle is sharp if in doubt replace it you can also check the tension .. ...
Read moreset machine on zig zag and sew a line of about 20cm ..stitches should be the same tension back and front if not set tension until they areWhat is the trick to attach the needle threader please? Mine will not attach and the bulky design of the machine makes it almost impossible to thread manually. Very frustrating!!
Sorry can't help. Mine came attached.
But if you mean how to use it, it just pulls down, the thread goes to the left under the small hook like thing and then to the right under the 2 small things an...
I have misplaced my manual, can someone please scan a copy of theirs for me? Really struggling to remember what stitches best to use for my sewing and how to use the machine in general. Your help is greatly appreciated as I cannot locate a copy of the manual anywhere online.
It's the same as the Janome Magnolia 7330: http://www.devicemanuals.com/productsupport/Janome_Magnolia+7330_manual.html
I would like a list of needles and what I would use each one for please?
I have no idea. I am just a hobbie home sewer. Check in store or online.
The machine can be fitted with any universal needle and any needles recommended for elna and janome machines. The needle selection depends on the type and weight of fabric you are using plus the job y...
Read moreou are doing. So a twin stretch needle if doing a doubke hem around a short sleeve hem on a T Shirt for example.I am having trouble doing the buttonholes, I only get across the end and part way down the left side sewn then machine stops and will not continue. Have to turn machine off, and it does the same thing when I try again. Is this a fault with my machine?
I haven't tried a button hole yet but do remember the sales person saying that it was a sensor and would stop if anything came in he sensor range. Maybe you are moving within the sensor range without realising.
Thanks, I have watched a video on Youtube on doing buttonholes, and there is a lever that I did not have down so will have another try tomorrow. Last time I did a buttonhole was many years ago on a basic machine.
I sew for a few seconds, then the machine stops and beeps, and on the deisplay pannel shows Fc ? i then have to turn the machine on and off again for it to start sewing, then repeats the Fc stopping? how do i fix?
FC is regarding foot control - check cable to foot pedal and ensure connected correctly and no issues with cable.
I have the machine almost 6 years now but only use few times because have few problems it really stop me to use it again .I use to be love sewing and I want it back I hope someone can help me out .
1.the presser foot (I'm not sure how to call that bar or foot ?) Too tight or I should say too low, when I lift it up, can't fit in two pics of jean. The distance too close .
2. Because of the presser foot too tight I can't sew thick fabrics. Feed dogs not running can't feeding the fabric.
Can anyone help me how can I get it loose abit .thanks a lot .
I've seen double faux fur together and double quilting fabric. There is a lever that lifts the presser foot up higher sort of behind the presser foot on the right, you lift it up and the foot lifts higher
Hi' can anyone tell me which stitches I can use for "stretch sewing"?? There is no info in the instruction book. Thanks ! I have the Elina 40
Try using stitch 6 or a narrow zigzag. Or perhaps try a twin needle - I haven't tried this on my elina 40 yet so not sure if it works. also try using a walking foot when stretch sewing
i would just fiddle with each stitch on a piece of knit, but i think #28 might help you
