EPSON 4740 not good for productivity

published

EPSON 4740 not good for productivity, it simply will not wake up after going to sleep. Printing sometime takes ages to spool, you literally have time to go and make a coffee and catch up with people around the office in the time it takes to print even a one page document. I have phoned Epson and they say just delete the printer and reinstall it. HOPELESS, I have to do this at least once everyday. DON'T BUY IT!

Purchased in March 2021 at Officeworks.

Great little workhorse

Color print was very clear and correct. Setup on the network was easy to configure. We have had this printer for over 12 months and have had no issues yet, good all round printer. Controls are user friendly and color screen easy to read. I would highly recommend Epson printers.

3rd Epson in 7 months

published

Each of these Epson all in ones lose the ability to fax or receive faxes. Epson replaced the 1st one, after several hours on the phone. When the same problem occurred with the 2nd one I took it back to the store. I tried another brand and found I needed tech support to set it up, but couldn't understand technician so returned it next day and tried another higher end Epson. Same fax problem is happening now and Epson swears it's the phone line. Phone company says it's fine. Stuck with a piece of equipment that doesn't work for faxing, something I need to do at least once a week.

After one year of use why is my WF-4640 suddenly producing a smudged first line on my labels? (21 labels per page, Avery paper).

My answer will not be very helpful unfortunately unless knowing that others have the same problem is helpful.
The smudging is just the beginning. For some reason the smudging shows up on labels more easily but if you examine a detailed normal page you will find it's there too.
Regular smudged lines, almost as if its printing off a rotating barrel.
After that, you will start to experience missing patches - blank spots.
You will waste tons of ink cleaning the heads and re-aligning and eventually call support.

Now the caution: When my printer went to service, I had just installed new cartridges as I'd used up some just doing the cleaning and naturally I didn't want to have the service guys think I was trying to run a printer with no ink.
When the printer came back, the good news is that it was fixed. I asked for a test in the workshop. But then, they took out their test cartridges and gave me empty cartridges. EMPTY!
They had their reasons which appear unreasonable policy from Epson. In the end the workshop wore the cost of giving me new cartridges. Epson apparently insist they use up the client's ink before they then use special test cartridges. But brand new XL cartridges to be emptied? Whaaaa?

Within about 10 months of the last repair the exact same thing is happening.
The second Epson I bought (Epson WorkForce 545) to do me over the first repair period which was working fine seems to have simply dried up. Can't get anything legible after heaps of cleaning.
So, as much as I like the functionality and especially after I had them working so well with both Windows and Linux, I have to warn you off.
Note: I'm in Perth so your service experience may be different.
Good Luck.
