EPSON 4740 not good for productivity
EPSON 4740 not good for productivity, it simply will not wake up after going to sleep. Printing sometime takes ages to spool, you literally have time to go and make a coffee and catch up with people around the office in the time it takes to print even a one page document. I have phoned Epson and they say just delete the printer and reinstall it. HOPELESS, I have to do this at least once everyday. DON'T BUY IT!
Purchased in March 2021 at Officeworks.

Great little workhorse
Color print was very clear and correct. Setup on the network was easy to configure. We have had this printer for over 12 months and have had no issues yet, good all round printer. Controls are user friendly and color screen easy to read. I would highly recommend Epson printers.

Find out how Epson Workforce Pro WF-4640 compares to other Printers
Know better, choose better.
Load of rubbish very poor customer service in New Zealand
Brought my first WF 4640 heads packed in in 1 month after warranty ran out Epson however replaced the heads which mean't taking it to the nearest service centre which was in Palmerston North a round trip of 400 km. Only have it returned a month later with more problems which it did not have. Back it went and another 2 week wait when it came back the print quality was poor and even doing a head realinement was a waste of time. So Epson on review replaced it with another machine and guess what 6 months on the heads are blocked and cleaning makes ...Read more
no difference and on top of that the New Printer is not under warranty as Epson consider this is a replacement and there fore covered under the original warranty. So its looks like its off to court I go.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

What happened to Epson
Actually had WF-4630 basically the same but less a paper tray.
Had for just over a year, started to have clogged print head, tried 4 cleaning cycles which goes through a ton of ink.
As I had registered product I still had warranty left.
Called Epson who confirmed warranty but despite only using original Epson ink, I would be charged a service fee.
I bought under the illusion that the high capacity ink would save money. Doesn't quite work out if I need to buy a new printer every year.
Sadly Epson has been my brand of choice for many years and I have recommended them to others.
It's my 2nd Workforce printer that's broken down in 2 years, and my sisters WF-7620 has print head issues too.

Do not buy!!
1. Breakdown/fax not working.
2. Incompatible with older software/hardware.
3. Ink needs replacing OFTEN.
4. Non-empty ink cartridges reading as empty, requiring superfluous replacement.
5. All printing is denied until all cartridges "have ink".
6. After performing all ink maintenance tasks, we still have unwanted lines printing.
7. Customer support is a huge waste of time.
We are on our second replacement Epson WF-4640 in 6 months, as the fax function malfunctioned.

3rd Epson in 7 months
Each of these Epson all in ones lose the ability to fax or receive faxes. Epson replaced the 1st one, after several hours on the phone. When the same problem occurred with the 2nd one I took it back to the store. I tried another brand and found I needed tech support to set it up, but couldn't understand technician so returned it next day and tried another higher end Epson. Same fax problem is happening now and Epson swears it's the phone line. Phone company says it's fine. Stuck with a piece of equipment that doesn't work for faxing, something I need to do at least once a week.

This is the 4th WF Pro printer that has failed Original was a Epson WF 4540 and replaced with WF 464
This is the 4th printer that has failed, there for they are not lasting, they are not acceptable quality with no faults that do all the things I would expect them to do in this time frame and we would not have purchase this WF printer if we knew the inconvenience that they have caused us, not to mention the cost. Epson are now refusing to replace this printer with the same printing quality faults because they claim it is not covered under the original printers warranty date of purchase. Under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL), most products a...Read more
nd services bought in Australia (from 1 January 2011) come with automatic guarantees that the items or services will work and do what you asked for. After the 4th printer it is clear this is not the case, therefor I have right to make a claim under warranty. These Epsom ink jet printers don’t last as it should or do all the things someone would normally expect them to do, yes they are terrific when they work but it is very frustrating every time they fail and we have to go through the same process with Epson over a printer and Ink, that is used well below the advertised performance capabilities of the WF Pro printer, 30,000 page durability, we wouldn’t know if it was capable of printing 30,00 pages because they keep failing with limited use. Epson advertised claims you will get: Get Performance Beyond Laser – the WorkForce WF-4640 powered by PrecisionCore, This printer doesn’t last to produce performance. Save on ink – up to 50 percent vs. colour laser1, Uses a lot more Ink then claims of 2000 colour pages are misleading – 2000 full colour pages or just a little bit of colour? Fastest printing – professional-quality prints at speeds of 20 ISO ppm (black) and 20 ISO ppm (colour)5, Yes it may be reasonably fast but it is far from professional when it fails and leaves lines through the print then uses up most of the expensive ink to run printer head cleans when in fact it is the failed printer quality and lack of performance that Epsom claims. Remarkable durability – 30,000-page monthly duty cycle for high-volume printing2, We would be lucky to print 3000 pages in 12 months well below the remarkable durability claims, this is false advertising, these printer don’t last that long to even produce the 30,000 claimed monthly duty cycle. Print anywhere, anytime – from iPad®, iPhone®, tablets and smartphones3 with wireless and Wi-Fi Direct®6 Can never get it to connect to our HP laptop at any time sitting next to the printer using windows 10 with the Epsom down load, gave up wasting my time and just used the lead. I wouldn't recommend these Epson printers to anyone unless they worked for Epsom so they get to deal with their lack of custom service... they are just plastic useless landfill printers.Similar opinion? Questions & Answers
Geoffasked
After one year of use why is my WF-4640 suddenly producing a smudged first line on my labels? (21 labels per page, Avery paper).

My answer will not be very helpful unfortunately unless knowing that others have the same problem is helpful.
The smudging is just the beginning. For some reason the smudging shows up on labels more easily but if you examine a detailed normal page you will find it's there too.
Regular smudged lines, almost as if its printing off a rotating barrel.
After that, you will start to experience missing patches - blank spots.
You will waste tons of ink cleaning the heads and re-aligning and eventually call support.
Now the caution: When my printer went to service, I had just installed new cartridges as I'd used up some just doing the cleaning and naturally I didn't want to have the service guys think I was trying to run a printer with no ink.
When the printer came back, the good news is that it was fixed. I asked for a test in the workshop. But then, they took out their test cartridges and gave me empty cartridges. EMPTY!
They had their reasons which appear unreasonable policy from Epson. In the end the workshop wore the cost of giving me new cartridges. Epson apparently insist they use up the client's ink before they then use special test cartridges. But brand new XL cartridges to be emptied? Whaaaa?
Within about 10 months of the last repair the exact same thing is happening.
The second Epson I bought (Epson WorkForce 545) to do me over the first repair period which was working fine seems to have simply dried up. Can't get anything legible after heaps of cleaning.
So, as much as I like the functionality and especially after I had them working so well with both Windows and Linux, I have to warn you off.
Note: I'm in Perth so your service experience may be different.
Good Luck.
