Yes but only when the baby's neck is strong enough. Maybe from at least 4 months old onwards depending on how strong your bub is.

I’ve been given an Ergobaby carrier but it’s an old one so I have no idea which model it is and if I need to buy an insert for it. The only information I have is that it’s red and has the old Ergobaby logo. Any help?

Hi Matt and Sarah - due to the carrier being older and having the old Ergobaby logo you will need an insert to wear your baby from newborn (3.2kg). If you want to be 100% sure before you purchase the infant insert please feel free to send a picture of the carrier to [email protected] and our team can verify your carrier make and also help you to purchase an insert.
Our carriers are made to last so we hope that you and your baby will make many happy memories in your 'new' Ergobaby carrier!

Help me decide between buying the ergobaby Omni 4 positions or the ergobaby Omni cool mesh... friends have offered to combine and buy us one of these but I have no idea how to work out which would suit us best!?
We have a newborn, live in Sydney, to be used by myself (average size) and my husband (6’2” and history of back problems). Thanks!

Hi Alana, Congratulations on the birth of new bub, very exciting times for you and your family. Thankyou for choosing Ergobaby as your carrier of choice. What a generous offer from your friends - an Ergobaby carrier is definitely a great gift idea!

To answer your question, both the Omni 360 and the Omni 360 Cool Air essentially work the same. However, the biggest difference is the type of fabric they are made from. We would describe the Omni Cool Air as a great all season carrier as it is made from a moisture wicking fabric as well as being designed with mesh panelling. This ensures that the Omni Cool Air is a carrier which will help keep yourself and baby cool in the Summer months. A lot of our Ergobaby parents describe the Omni Cool Air as being more comfortable to wear throughout summer.

As with any new product bought into the market there are always tweaks, adjustments and improvements made on exsisting designs. The Omni Cool Air is the newer of two to hit the shelves. So whilst the fabric is the main difference between the two, the Omni Cool Air has been designed with an improvement to the way you are able to change the carrier from facing baby in to facing baby out. We have replaced buttons with easy to use sliders. Some of our Ergobaby parents find these easier to adjust than using the buttons.

In regard to the difference in height between yourself and your husband, this won't be an issue with whichever Ergobaby carrier you choose. Both are designed to be easily adjusted to fit all body types. We have a collection of YouTube videos you can watch online which will give you a clear instructions on how to adjust the carrier to be the right fit for each of you.

Hoping this helped you make your decision. Our biggest piece of advice would be to go into one of our authorised retailers and try each of the carriers on with bub. This way you will be able decide which one feels like the right one for you and your husband. Good luck with your decision.

I have a very old ergobaby, (unsure of model but it is moroon) which my 16 week is still a bit too small for.

I went and bought the infant insert the other day which the ladies assured me would fit regardless of it being a discontinued model. I ended up struggling so much I went back to the store with my carrier for help- it just doesn't seem to fit. DS seems to Be sitting nose to nose with me with the insert!

Is there any way around this? Any tricks I'm missing? I am now down the money for the second hand carrier plus the insert but still don't have anything that works for baby.

Hi Jess, thanks for getting in touch with us regarding your Ergobaby Carrier. Our infant inserts should fit in our carriers regardless of the age of the carrier. It's difficult to assess your query accurately without knowing the exact model of your carrier, but the below tips might help.

1. The infant insert is designed to be used with babies aged 0 - 4 months. Given your baby is now 16 weeks (4months) and is sitting so high in the insert, you could consider not using the insert at all. There are two developmental milestones which your baby will need to have reached to make this possible. Firstly, your baby should have full head control so no longer requires head and neck support. Secondly, your baby should have transitioned their leg position from sitting in a 'frog leg' position to now sitting with their legs in a natural 'M' shape positioning. Once both milestones have been reached, the infant insert is no longer necessary.

2. The infant insert comes in two pieces, an outer shell and a support cushion. These two pieces can be used independently from each other. For example, if your baby has gained head and neck control and they are sitting in a natural 'M' shape position consistently BUT they still sit too low in the carrier without support, you can just use the cushioning piece to help boost them to a higher position. Alternatively, if your baby is quite tall and sits too high the carrier with the cushioning piece in the insert but you feel bub still needs some head and neck support, you can take the cushioning piece out altogether and just use the outer shell. Reading your query above, this could potentially be the solution for yourself.

3. Are you wearing the carrier low on your hips? Our carriers are designed to sit low on our hips and wide on our shoulders to ensure that the weight of baby is distributed evenly. If you are wearing the carrier too high and more on your waist, this could impact on how tall the baby sits in the carrier.

Hopefully these tips help to resolve your issue. Thankyou for choosing an Ergobaby Carrier to use with your baby.

Hi,
I have friends who have Ergobaby carriers & love them. I have been thinking about buying one for my baby due in July. But I don't know what the difference is between the carriers. Any ideas?
I have seen Original Bundle of Joy, 360 carries, 4 positions 360 carriers.
I am just looking for a carrier that baby can either face me or face away from me, on the back would be good but not a must.
I had a cheaper carrier for previous children but found it too hard to get on by myself & uncomfortable to wear.

Thanks,
Chereece

Hi Chereece, Thankyou for considering an Ergobaby carrier. It's great to hear that your friends are loving using their own Ergobaby carrier - recommendations from parents who are using our carriers everyday are always the best! If you would like a carrier that can either face yourself or face away from you, our recommendation would be to look at the our 360 Range. Our 360 Carriers are the only carriers in our range which allow you to face baby away from you whilst you are carrying them on the front. These come in two types of fabrics - either cotton fabric in a variety of different colours, or the Cool Air version. The Cool Air version is designed to keep yourself and baby cool whilst using the carrier in the warmer months.

Whilst our other carriers are also fantastic, the 360 is the only one which will offer you the ability to face baby away. You can carry your baby on your back from 6 months of age in any of our carriers. Our online videos will assist you to achieve the back carry easily once you are ready. If possible, I would encourage you to visit one of our authorised retailers to try the Ergobaby range on which should assist you in making your decision.

Good luck with your choice and I hope that you find the Ergobaby that works best for you and your family. Remember too that our website is a great source of information and easy to navigate - you'll find information, images and videos there to assist you in making a decision.

Is this the best Ergo for my needs? Travelling OS with a 2 year old (12kg) during Summer. I'm size 8 and 155cm tall. My partner is 6ft and wears size L. We'll be walking constantly and it'all be hot! Would love something that our 3yo (16kg) and 4yo (20kg) could also use if absolutely necessary. Thanks!

Hi Jas, thankyou for getting in touch with us regarding choosing the best Ergobaby Carrier for your needs. Ergobaby Carriers are great for travelling - you will definitely find it a necessity!! The Ergobaby Sport is an older model and we have superceded that model with carriers that are better designed to keep you cool. My recommendations would be:

1. A 360 Cool Air - this is a four position carrier which is made from a moisture wicking fabric (for use up to 15kg)
2. A Performance Carrier - this is a three position carrier which is made from a moisture wicking fabric (for use up to 20kg) OR
3. A Ventus Carrier - this is a three position carrier which is made up of predominately a mesh fabric (for use up to 20kg)

Any of these 3 carriers will be a cool option for you travelling throughout the summer months. The three position carriers (Performance and the Ventus) allow you to have your baby facing in toward you, on the side from 6 months and on the back from 6 months. The four position carrier (the 360) gives you added position of being able to have baby facing out whilst they are positioned on your front from 5 months of age. The 360 is a good option if you have a baby who likes to see what's going on.

I personally used a Ventus carrier with a 12kg baby travelling through Vietnman in Summer and it was an excellent option. It was cool and comfortable and bub loved being carried on the back.

I hope that gives you some direction with your choice. One other tip is to make sure wherever you are purchasing from that they are an authorised stockist of Ergobaby. We have seen a few counterfeits recently and they are of a very poor quality. They won't give you the support you need and the fabric is of very poor quality. Just a tip to remember.

Good luck with your choice and enjoy your travels!

Hi Jas,
I use the Ergo baby Travel and love it. It's comfortable, not hot, and very light. I live in tropical North Queensland where summer is hot as well as humid and still felt very comfortable and I am certain my babies both were very comfy with it too.

Great on the front when they are small, and great for hubby to use on the back for when they are bigger.

I have absolutely no negative comments about Ergo Baby.

Can you back carry with the ergo sport

Hello as far as I know yes you can :)

Yes you can. This ergo carries on front (tummy to tummy, not forward facing), on the hip and on the back.

Karrie H.Ergobaby

Hi Tay, Yes, you certainly can back carry with the ergo sport carrier. Each parent and child is different, but usually around 6 months, baby will be ready to be carried on the back and parents are more comfortable with not having their baby in direct line of sight. People with larger babies who are more developed may choose to put their baby in the back carry position even earlier than 6 months, especially for longer carry times since many parents find it more comfortable to wear heavy babies on their backs. You can find instructional videos on how to back carry on our website. Good luck with transitioning the back carry!

Do these carriers hurt your back? I have the baby borjion and my backaches in short periods.

I have been able to wear it for long periods of time comfortably. Make sure that all the straps have been adjusted. I have carried up to 12 kg with no problem. More than that, it will sort you out for short periods. The assumption is by that time, your toddler would be walking around. Been so great when travelling to highly populated locations, when prams are not suitable.

Honestly, compared to the bijorn, this carrier is a miracle. After using the ergo, I'm way too spoiled to use other wraps. The difference in back support is incredible.

Thanks for your question Kareena. The Ergobaby Original Carrier is now in its third-generation and has evolved to become more comfortable than ever. Made from durable cotton canvas with high-density padding and straps that distribute baby’s weight across your shoulders and hips, adjusting for the perfect mutual fit. This carrier is available in a variety of popular colors. As with all Ergobaby carriers, it keeps baby safe, close, and comfortable while providing you freedom of movement.
An Ergobaby Infant Insert is required for use with all Ergobaby Carriers from birth to 4/5 months or until baby has developed head control. All Ergobaby Infant Inserts are designed to work and fit with any Ergobaby Carrier.

I currently have a baby Bjorne and want to know what the differences are between that and this product?

1 answer
Justine
Justine

From my research my understanding is the baby Bjorne doesn't come with a padded insert? And the ergo does which means the baby is securely in the carrier and less impact on their legs being apart, which should be considered as this can have an impact on their hip development, new born baby should have their legs closed more they should be in the insert until they become bigger and more flexible.

I'd love one of these. My daughter is 4.5 yrs old but only 16kg. We are travelling Asia for 4 months next year. This sounds perfect but at her weight will it hurt my back?
Thanks

Hi Gemma, that is pretty difficult to answer! The Ergo performance may suit you better as it is lighter and won't be as hot for the warmer climate of Asia. Wether you will find ti comfy for long term frequent use is tough to know. I find it very comfortable. Can you get a second hand one from eBay or a friend to try it out? The other thing ppl use is those tall, sturdy Phil n Ted sle ones as they have storage compartment underneath the sling part.
Happy hunting!
