Has anybody else got the 2013/14 Ford Focus Titanium? We thought our only ambient lighting was the white lighting that comes on when you stop the car and alight or enter it to start. With all the shuddering and crap we received from the transmission, when we had our clutch replaced to fix the problem, the transmission was great for 2 whole days. ALSO this weird red ambient lighting came on for all doors, centre cup holder area, and by our feet. Odd! apparently it is standard. Suddenly the trans plays up again, shuddering, weird noises, no power, and that red ambient lighting disappeared also. Coincidence?? Ring Ford up and explained what occurred, and they state there would be no connection. Has anybody else had similar? I am thinking an electrical or computer component issue linking both lighting and clutch / transmission.

The Ford Focus Titanium is the worst value for money car we have ever owned. Constant gearbox and electrical problems. Ford sold these vehicles knowing they had unfixable problems in them. Now Ford and its dealers constantly lie about these problems. Last Ford, or Ford owned brand, we will ever buy. Piece of garbage that should have been Found On Rubbish Dump - FORD
This is one of the most common problems in the automotive universe. The Ford Focus 2010-2015 has a major transmission design defect and Ford provides almost no tangible assistance and routinely fails to honour its obligations under the 2011 Australian Consumer Law. The best chance of beating this problem is to join the Bannister Law Class Action lawsuit. (Relax, it's a no-win, no fee arrangement). Full details of the design defect problem and the class action lawsuit are here at my blog: [link removed]

What issues are there with a Manual for focus? I've seen a lot of negative reviews about the Auto ones so I'm curious to see if the manuals have the same problem,
4 answers
Hi RjC, I have not had any experience with the manual. I've only ever driven the auto so I wouldn't know.
The problem is with the hybrid manual/auto models. Just make sure you don't get one of them. Be very thorough when asking questions about what kind of transmission the model has.

Perhaps it is not screwed in properly / my suggestion is get the problem fixed as soon as you possibly can so you can get back to concentrate on the driving of the car without hardly any hassles
You could try taking the car to a ford Australia workshop or a mechanical repairs workshop to get the problem repaired

I have a 2007 Focus and have just learned the automatic transmission need costly repairs after 88,000klms.Mechanic says it is a not uncommon problem with this model. Has anyone else had similar problems?

John, my car has only done 24000 km or so, hopefully I won't have any problems. I am wondering what sort of issue you are having with your transmission?
Check with ford they say the gear box should last for 250k+ mine has 140k on the clock no issues
Already had clutch replaced once on my 2011(purchased new in 2012) model. It's an Auto ambiente model with a manual gearbox. So many problems. And being told I was just driving it badly until they admitted they needed to replace the clutch. Constant excuses pretending that it's normal and now they're doing it again.

Is there any difference between the 2007 and 2008 models? I am looking at both with view to buy, but can't see any difference.

Hi Brian, Sorry but I am unable to answer your question, as I am not sure. However I would have to say that one year on since I bought my 2007 model and still absolutely love it - terrific car, thanks

Hi I'm thinking of buying the Ford Focus Titanium 2013 model. Can I please get some opinions and is the car worth buying and are there any common problems with this car? Thanks I would really appreciate your feedback.

The 2000cc petrol version with the auto gearbox has major gearbox problems. The gearbox slips and shudders and takes its time deciding which gear to go into. Do a websearch on Focus gearbox problems to see the extent of the problem.
The answer to your question is don't buy one! The servicing dealers are useless, warranty backing is poor, build quality is questionable, Duratec petrol engine "shakes" entire vehicle on stand still, DSG auto is filth, electrical problems, little annoyances surface on a daily basis is a pure let down. Buy a Hyundai or Kia - with an unlimited km warranty. After all, that option definitely couldn't be any worse.
I've just bought Ford Focus trend hatch with powershift auto trans last week. Nice drive. BUT Just after 3 days, the trans went crazy. I lost the odd gears. While they returned after restart, the transmission was never been the same. I keep hearing noises and feeling shuddering. I can't manually select gear on Drive, only on Sport. An attempt to fix it have failed. They keep telling me it's normal.
Now I'm seeking a replacement with manual version or a refund. If I fail, I will take this matter further to the relevant authority and/or media. Anyone want to join me? I hope it's the last thing they want to join the VW bandwagon.
This is my first Ford. Previously I have a Hyundai. Whilst there were a few problems (nothing is perfect, I guess), they were all fixed under warranty without any arguement. Hyundai even replaced my noisy timing belt, 2 months before the 5 year warranty expired, and the car hadn't been regularly serviced by them previously. I was impressed. I should have stick to Hyundai and ignore all the media hype about Ford Focus. I've learned my lesson.

Would someone please tell me if the Ford Focus trend has voice-activated controls for the air-con, radio and phone, as well as buttons for most functions on the steering wheel ???some people at Ford game me different answers altogether.

Air-con -no
Radio-yes
Phone-yes
19 steering wheel buttons incl volume up/down, skip to next track / go back one track, speed limiter set/ cancel, cruise control set, cancel, up and down, radio station presets, pick up and hang up phone, check petrol use, fuel remain., day trip kms etc
Hope that helps.
Hi dindoul, there are two sets of steering mounted controls (right and left) the right side is for cruise control which I don't use (I'd rather drive the car) and I have been to lazy to figure out what the left side does (only had the car six weeks). The air con and radio are not voice activated on the Trend (a bit much to ask for twenty-four grand). I have not tried voice activating the blue tooth for the phone cos I seldom have use for it. It would certainly be on the Titanium but that is another ten grand. Basically I bought the Trend because it knocked the spots if the competition for drivability, comfort and design as well as having plenty of space. I am not overly fussed about frills I just wanted a something with a bit of oomph and the Trend has it in spades. Hope that helps.

put it on recurcuilating and see if it stops.
FYI they ended up replacing the entire heating unit in the end. Also make sure the dash is lined up properly when they replace unit, if this happens to you.
