Jillian, how’s the temperature gauge and fluids, and when was it last serviced? ie. thorough going over, cooling system, electrics etc. They’ve been an incredible almost no maintenance value for money vehicle for a decade now and are due for some attention. My advice is be confident in spending some reasonable money through a ‘good’ mechanic that will run his eye over it thoroughly to see what needs doing.
My 07 model has been outback most of it’s life and never missed a beat in the cooling system with regular 2000km trips. My only starting issues when hot have been due to battery age, most of which come with the generic 2 yr warranty and fail right on time. I picked up an Indian made battery specifically designed for hot climates from Townsville Battery World...an Amaron, (green in colour) almost 5 yrs ago, with a 2 yr warranty. It’s been due for replacement now for about a year but keeps soldiering on through the hot starts and hot weather. ..cheers GLC

Whats the difference between a 2.5 and a 3.0 Ford Ranger motors

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratorq_engine

2.5 (Mazda WLC)
Introduced for the Thailand-built 2007 Ford Ranger (J97U) is a 2.5 L diesel engine. This truck is a clone of the Mazda B-Series and thus the engine is a Mazda engine. It has a bore and a stroke of 93 mm 92 mm (3.66 in 3.62 in). The engine has no commonality to Ford's "Puma" engine or VM Motori. It is a development of the IDI Mazda 2.2L normally aspirated, later 2.5L NA and Turbo and later 2.9L NA, with Bosch common-rail direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger. The WLC engine code is a Mazda engine code, not being changed for use in the Mazda B-Series clone Ford Ranger. It produces 143 PS (105 kW; 141 hp) @ 3500 rpm and 330 Nm (243 lbft) @ 1800 rpm.[7]

3.0 (Mazda WEC)
A 3.0L Mazda W-engine similar to the 2.5 is also used in the 2007 Ranger as the top of the range. Displacement is increased with a wider bore of 96 mm (3.78 in) and longer stroke of 102 mm (4.02 in). It produces 156 PS (115 kW; 154 hp) @ 3200 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lbft) @ 1800 rpm.

The W-engine family remains a Mazda engine and has no commonality to "Puma"

Just for a guess Adriaan, your duel mass flywheel. When they go they go. You can buy a clutch kit with a single mass flywheel if you like and it won’t happen again, or another duel mass for another estimated 150-200K kms, cheers GLC

I have a pj ford ranger with a pk 2.5 ltr motor in it.
It has a slight surge when at speed.
It also drives fine then when pull up at lights or it idles for 20 seconds or more it has a major surge from idle to 2000 rpm and has little to no power. If you do a quick key off and on it will run fine again until it idles again.

Has new crank angle sensor, map sensor, maf sensor and cam sensor.

No, no need, they’re an entirely throw away turbo. No adjustment, no maintenance, absolutely no need. They’re cheaply put together but absolutely perform the task they’re designed for, very much like the rest of the vehicle. They do age however and If you’re a budding enthusiast, knock yourself out, you’ll enjoy the ride and learn on the way. I’m also guessing you’ll be in a different truck before you know it.
Good luck, GLC

I have a 07 Ford Ranger 3.0td and my check engine light come on and is running in limp mode80% of the time. First drive of the day runs fine for 20 min or so and sometimes runs fine after stopping and starting engine again. I have had it plugged in for faults and had to replace map sensor and throttle sensor (in cab under accelerator pedal) and maby one other sensor along those lines. Had to plug computer in and adjust throttle sensor a few times and clear faults until it seemed good. Ran good and no engine light for about 2 days then back to limp mode and engine light on. As I said first drive of the day when driving it runs okay and isn’t limp mode but engine light on and under boost is a bit spluttery. I’m no mechanic but I feel turbo may be gone? Anyone with any helpful advice or suggestions ect would be greatly appreciated cheers
