2017 Automatic gearbox problems

published

2017 XLS auto, 25k. Auto is sloppy... ok n bitumen, but on dirt tends to drop into a lower gear, or the torque converter slips markedly when you hit a bump. Consequently it's constantly changing and revving unnecessarily under light load over bumpy roads. Apparently it's within specs, (Ford allow 1000 rpm as within specs!) but seriously crap design.

A great all round ute

published

Bought my XLS from a mate. (Sold due to his failing health)Tricked up beautifully, this XLS in my opinion is as good or better than a Wildtrak. I recommend upgrading suspension and adding iDrive. It has a lot of accessories added by Opposite Lock prior to Rego. A great tray system and auxiliary diesel and water tanks in the tray and much more!

Good vehicle

published

2nd vehicle in this model. Last was xlt and now xls. Both very reliable with minimal issues. About 10l per hundred on fuel realistically and up to 17 when towing a 2.5t dual axle caravan. Tows well, even on standard suspension. Only complaint so far with the xls is no 12v outlets on constant power.

Great ute

published

Drives nice and smooth, plenty of power to get up and go. Interior is ok, pretty basic but that’s all we need. Easy to keep clean inside and out. Plenty of room in the dual cab for the kids. Running costs are low and fuel consumption around 9L/100km. Tows our 20ft caravan with ease-hardly feel like there’s anything hooked on behind us!

A great workhorse

published

After having a another brand ute which had a hard time towing my 3000kg trailer . The Ranger does it with ease, with power to spare making driving more relaxed. 60,000klm on and still going strong, The fuel economy is good even towing. The xls has all the room and a comfort that a tradie needs.

Finger crossed

published

I have owned XLS specl Edt since Dec 16..Towed a 2 tonne van exceptionally well for 7,500 ks...Not bad on fuel, across the new England ranges...22.5lt per 100ks On the flat 15.5lt per 100ks. Inner front guards plastic linings rattled so I replaced the plastic plug things...all good...Hard to be critical so far with over 10,000 ks on it. Ride and drive position is very good...Enough electic doodads on board with out getting confused. It has stuttered a cpl of times after take off after leaving idle for a few mins, paint seems thin as got a few chips to easy..4.5 to 5 stars.

Ulitimate driving machine

published

This vehicle is the ultimate driving machine. The outside styling is sexy and the interior design and layout is awsome. For a diesel there is little to no engine noise, it drives smooth with auto transmission and has all the gadgets anyone could ever need. Fuel economy is excellent, both in town and on the highway. I wish I had bought one earlier.

Excellent all rounder ute!

published

Really happy with the handling of the newer Rangers, when put up against multiple job sites I never have a problem with maneuverability, turning circle and drive train. In terms of the interior the space is a big benefit, it feels like a large SUV inside, however I think Ford could focus on the dashboard features a little and update. Realisability is fantastic, durable and a great all rounder. Fuel Economy is around the average if not a little better mark.

Great except for the paint

published

Just came back from a hunting trip. Love the car except the paint is marked from the light bush rubs and the tailgate is peppered with stone chips - only towed a trailer 58km on a dirt road. The door chime is extremely annoying especially when you want to sit with the door open and keys in the ignition. Performed well but I still have to get used to it ( only 4mths old).

A reel shame

published

Always wanted a new Ranger for as long as i could remember. Not anymore. I have had an xls for six months now with already two sensor issue under my belt. My most recent issue i fear is more concerning, for i have stalling, shaking, down gearing and spontaneous alert signaling happening almost daily now. I can only hope that this doesn't become a painful ongoing issue . A reel shame i love the car. Fingers crossed for when i hear back from my ford dealership regarding this matter.

Absolutley NO after sales warranty from ford australia. Cost me 9.5 weeks without a work vehicle and

published

Bangs and thudders from the gear box and diff. Four ford dealers saying i had unacceptable drive train problems. But not according to ford australia. I went 9.5 weeks yes two and a half months without a work vehicle while ford stuffed me around. After that it costs me sixteen thousand dollars in trade in change over. Buy a Isuzu dmax. Isuzu will give you backup after sales service. Not so ford.
