Hello! I have a gagglia brera - has worked perfectly for several years. Now the light in the top left comes on to indicate that the water tanks needs to be re-filled - but it continues to come on and the machine will not work regardless of the water level in the tank. Please kindly advise! thanks,

What's with the little black plug in the bottom of the filter holder?

Hi Yve. I'm not sure what it's called but you get a better crema with it in. I have the thin end in the outlet. It's sort of like one of those widgets the put in Guinness beer.

I would like to ask..."what material is the heating tank made of?..I had a coffee gaggia in the 1980's and after about 12 years the electrics went all brittle so I decided to tear it apart to check the heating tank..lo and behold it was aluminium and was corroded badly and there was tons of aluminium dust at the bottom..this is what I was drinking?
I hope before you purchase one ask if the heating tank is alum.. or stainless. Go for stainless if you can get it.
I am Italian born.

Have just received the new Gaggia classic 2015 model, have been selling Gaggia's for 9 years now in my store. There seems to be a problem when the portafilter is locked in the group head, the plastic spaces in the group head seem to get loose. How do we solve this problem?

I have a gaggia classic which has been recently (3 months ago ) serviced. It seemed yo be working ok but now fir some reason it sprays the liquid out all over the place and then settles down but mostly dispenses coffee from the right hand side of the head . Crema is not the best either as it consists of rather large bubbles. I read a review which stated that the person "tweaked " their machine, can someone shed some light on this action for me please? ... Much appreciated

Hello, I am pretty sure it comes with a manual for instructions of how to use it, otherwise you can download one from the internet: http://www.gallacoffee.co.uk/pdf/gaggia-classic-manual.pdf
I find that most of the supermarket coffees are to coarse and the brewing is too fast so you don't get as much crema, but I buy my coffee locally and I ask them to grind it more fine (same size for commercial machines) and it works perfect.
I hope I was helpfull

I'll assume you are after instructions for the mods to the Gaggia Classic.

The OPV mod requires some tinkering to obtain 9 bar pressure. Here is an illustrated blog post that shows how to get into the machine and find the part to modify: http://www.jamesgleave.com/2012/07/96/modifying-gaggia-classic-opv-to-9-bar/

The blogger in the above article is turning the OPV adjustment screw 270 deg and not testing the resulting pressure. I'd recommend testing the pressure to check you are int eh 9 bar vicinity (see below).

Some people use a pressure gauge to measure the output pressure, but I didn't have one so I used the OPV manufacturers documentation to find out the flow rate expected for 9 bars. It isn't as precise as a gauge, but it's pretty good (around 260 ml/min). Here's the graph: http://www.home-barista.com/forums/userpix/6616_pump_profile.jpg

As for the steam wand mod, I got the parts here (the Silvia arm): http://www.coffeeparts.com.au/domestic-parts/machines/gaggia-classic
