how do you turn it on?

Along the top of the GPS, closer to the left side, there is a small button cut out of the case. It appears to be part of the case. I find it very hard to turn on and off but that is where it is. It is the same color as the GPS case. You have to hold it down just right in order for it to work. And don't be impatient. Hold it down until the device comes on. I hope this helps you. Constance

I'm sorry. I don't know the answer. My Garmin is 55 or 50 and has been discontinued. I have not bought another one. Mine was supposed to have lifetime maps. Here's the website address for Garmin product support in Australia: https://support.garmin.com/en-AU/ I hope it helps.

Have several Garmin GPS in the Household and am considering taking the 40 on overseas vacation. Where/how do I put in the overseas maps for each country area. There seems to be a small slot but it is not the same as the card holders on the 660 or 765.

As far as know, the last time I updated, you have to use their software (supplied CD or downloaded) while your GPS with the micro SD or memory connected and follow the instruction.
Hope this helps.
