Poor traction

published

5 months ago I swapped my 2015 triton for a 2015 octavia Stationwagon that came with Goodyear optilife's. It's a front wheel drive family car and not sporty by any means. When its dry it's got poor traction, when its wet it's downright dangerous. It's also noisy. Going to swap to something safer soon as these are just not safe.

Purchased in October 2021.

Great tyre for the money

published

These tyres are midrange tyre and great value for the kilometres you get out of them.

Many cheaper brands will be worn out after 40,000 k’s but I’ve got nearly 80,000 k’s out of these before needing to replace them.

I would have got another set but the tyre place near me didn’t stock them so I ended up buying Yokohama’s which although slightly quieter don’t appear to have as much tread thickness as the optilife’s did so I’m not optimistic that they will last as long.

Will have to wait and see.

Purchased at Kmart for $500.00.

Noisy. Horrible in the wet

published

Noisiest tyre ever.
Handles like a scared kitten on wet Lino at the first sign of rain.
Durability is probably compromised by all the wheel spin, even in the dry.
Front wheel drive Golf TDi so it’s torquey but I’ve had much better tyres on a similar car.

Complete dangerous JUNK

published

I remember when I was a 12 year old kid in the early 70's and my dad put brand new Goodyear tyres on the car and somewhere between Mt Isa and Townsville we blew one out and another was separating the tread from the tyre. I now just bought a Corolla with Goodyear Optilfe with 90% tread left and they are out of round big time. This is living proof that the pathetic method of their way of making tyres in the 70's hasn't changed.
Never ever buy goodyear tyres......

If you had completely bald Tyres in another brand there would be more traction. In a front wheeled drive 2010 Mazda 6 they are dangerous particularly in the wet. Durability is not worth thi king about after you have had an accident. Avoid these Tyres.

ok for a budget tyre

Not great in the wet and noisy on bitumen.

37,000kms overall on a Subaru Outback.

I would recommend shopping around elsewhere for tyres as there are many better options than these from many other tyre stores..

Tyres were not what I requested.

published

Tyres are noisy, harsher ride and car does not steer as well as when it was fitted with Forteras. Not at all impressed as despite having a wheel alignment when the four tyres were fitted, the car does not track as well as it did. No opportunity yet to assess wet weather performance but have little confidence that they will perform well. Have used Goodyear tyres for over 25 years and these would have to be the worst tyres that have been fitted to my cars.

Not tyre l req use sted

I specially requested to replace damaged tyre with exactly the same ie. hankook kinergy eco. I’m very aware to have all tyre the same my father was a mechanic who drilled this into my sisters and myself over and over.
I was told by staff member at Kats Hornsby that they did not have one at the time, I was offered a different brand, l said no l want same as damaged tyre.
I was told that it would be several days to get one in, l said great, l left damaged tyre still on the rim and returned later in the week to get the new one put on my car. To my amazement my tyre had been replaced with a tyre that l did not order
I am now waiting for the correct for ktasto correct this.

50K mileage guarantee is false.

published

Kmart Gungahlin did not honour the 50K mileage promise. Tyres are completely worn now at 33K. They are evenly worn but I’m not happy about the distance. I purchased them with a full wheel alignment and balance as they said it carries a guarantee of 50K if you take a wheel alignment with the purchase (which I always do with a Tyre purchase). So I did. Now they say I need to visit them regularly for alignment and rotation. They did not tell me this when I bought the tyres. I buy tyres in pairs so don’t rotate. I have four vehicles and am a Kmart Canberra customer for Tyre and insurance since 2011. Now decided to look for other places.

Goodyear Tyre lasted 5 kilometers - Guarantee worthless

published

Sidewall of Goodyear OptiLife tyre blew out after driving 5 kilometers from Kmart auto to home in Canberra. Kmart said tyre must have been slashed or driven over rocks and won't honor guarantee. I have a dog and there are no rocks in my driveway, only in my head for having bought these tyres. I have been driving for 40 years in both harsh country and city conditions and never had a sidewall fail. I have had good service from KMAS and their personnel in the past, just do yourself and your safety a favour and avoid their Goodyear tyres.

Noisy and harsh ride

published

I have a Territory TX AWD. I have had these Goodyear Optilife for a year or so. The family won't drive any distance with these tyres due to noise and harshness I am 72 and these are the worst tyres I have experienced in my life. Took the issue up with KMart Auto but no response. PS I have no complaints about Kmart Auto staff I have always had excellent service from them over the many years I have used them.

Woeful - feel like cheap hard chinese import tyres

published

Worst tyres I have ever owned - noisy, extremely low grip to the point of being dangerous in the wet, balances and wheel alignments kept up and they are going out of round and only done 15ooo kms so far.Sound more like an mud terrain tyre on the freeway. My old Goodyear Forteras on the tread wear limiters had more grip than these things. The guys at KTAS said these were superb. Sorry but a big NO.

Best Tyres I have ever had

published

I used to work in the KTAS call centre while I was transferring the calls through I would ask the service agent what sort of tyres they would recommend for me.I asked 50 different centres Australia wide they all said the same Optilife many said their whole family's were using them.Dirt roads, wet and rough roads these tyres are perfect.I also did the customer satisfaction surveys 9/10 was common apart from KTAS who else gets 9/10, I no longer work in the call centre but I still tell my workmates and friends to shop there hard to believe they are owned by Coles.

So far So good

published

Well, got these tyres fitted by KMart a month ago, so far so good. I honestly do not think I can comment much on the durability for another 2 years or so. However, I like the idea that it comes with a 50,000km warranty, and their price is a fraction of my original Bridgestone.

In terms of service, I find that Kmart Tyres at Sunnybank Hills Shoppingtown is provides a professional and courteous service to customer. I will definitely return

Durability, So far so good, wear rate seems about right,
low noise level not at all noisy,
grip feels safe in the wet
no sense of squirm in the dry.
very good heavy braking characteristics, takes ABS to the limit

recommended at the price point offered by Kmart with their tyre saver service

Does anyone besides me think that the bulge of high star reviews for these tyres is an attempt to rook people into believing that these things are better than they really are?

1 answer
dazaspc
dazaspc

Hi Chris
Honestly I don't think so. Tires though the same brand and model will perform differently on different cars and in different sizes. Air pressure plays a huge role in ride quality, handling and durability. Most if not all tire retailers will inflate new tires to the minimum of recommended pressures to prevent same day returns for rough ride and noise. Dont let any one tell you otherwise.....................

The majority of reviews come from 2 groups of consumers
1~ Just bought it and really haven't had them long enough to know. They just want to justify to them selfs that they did the rite thing and others should do the same.
2~ Had a bad experience. There are many things that can contribute that were forgotten or ignored in the reviews. For example the Forester Review above they were sold the wrong thing for the job as it was stated at the start they did a significant amount of travel on rough unsealed roads. They should have been sold ATV tires. Not the tires fault that they were not used correctly and were recommended by someone on commission or who didn't care? Never under estimate Vindictiveness in human nature.

Sadly tires are no longer made in Australia and we must use OS suppliers. We have a unique set of conditions that many countries will not experience. AWD became popular OS because of the possibility of ice on the roads. Very dangerous when encountered and with the wrong tires deadly. Here in Australia not a problem in all but a very few areas. Some brands with history in Australia have plenty of good models of tires that will be suitable. If it is all to confusing or you just are not sure the OEM supplied tires on most cars will have been tested on these cars and at the very least you will know that things like ABS, Stability control will work as the factory intended. After all they have the most to loose if the make a good car and make it bad by fitting junk tires. Better can be fitted but this requires some informed judgment. Check with you local RAA, NRMA, etc they will have people who know and are not just trying to sell you something they have in your size.....................

To sum up you need to select tires that suit where and what you drive on. Inflate them to the pressures that the tire placard inside the door jam recommends and don't be afraid to inflate to the maximum recommended pressure if you are using them hard.
Cheers

No way - personal opinion steer clear of these or you wont steer in the wet, they are good if you want to improve your slow speed sliding.
