gopro hero5 black not impressed
I have had my gopro for about a year, and I dont use it for sports, I use it to video inside, usually on a tripod as I do painting tutorials. I needed to buy a external mic due to the mic being useless once a cover is on it, and of course you need a cover in order to use it on a tri pod
now onto the issues
battery life - absolutely hopeless, its dead in about 45 minutes of recording
editing software - slow and limited.. takes me hours to edit even a short video
now for the bit im really not happy about
the external mic has to plug into the sa...Read more

Great footage, minor niggles
This is an old version now, I bought it because it still did the job I needed it to, and I didn't want to pay $600+ for the latest version.
Something to note if you're considering this: the settings regarding video quality/frame rate/field of view are locked out in some circumstances. For example, if you want to shoot in 4k you are limited to 24 or 25 frames per second, so no slow motion footage in 4k. Also, there's only one FOV available (which is Wide). Another example is the highest frame rate, 240FPS (which is phenomenal) but is only avai...Read more
lable in a resolution of 720. My other major gripe is the GoPro app. It can be painful at times to get it to connect to the camera, sometimes requiring a reset of my phone and/or clearing and re-discovering the camera before it works. A minor issue is the touchscreen, you need a heavy finger for it to register usually. Otherwise it works great! I've never tried it underwater like a lot of people here. Picture quality for something this size is great, it suffers in low light conditions but so does any camera with a sensor/lens this small.Purchased in January 2021 for $300.00.

Only 2 years old, used 5 times and now dead
I purchased the Hero5 and used it 5 times on 5 different holiday vacations.
On the 6th occasion the unit will not charge. I called Gopro support and over the phone GOPRO support advised that i am unable to repair it. They offered me a discount to buy the Hero7 (Nothing else only the Hero7) If I compare to any electrical equipment I have purchased, this Hero5 is dead after so little use and only 2 years. I have Video cameras, digital cameras that last 10s on years.
Im disgruntled as Gopro show no interest in trying to fix the issue, the focus is solely on selling me a new Hero7. Very poor after sales service. Buyer beware as Gopro do not have a shop you can visit and mainly have an online presence

Does the job
you can use a still photo, video and attached to anything, the attachments you can get for this are awesome, we like the genuine gopro fold out stick. the video quality on this device is crystal clear, was a great purchase for its price, and best of all its water proof so taking on holidays whilst on the water or in a pool with the kids is great. if you want a compact action video camera get a GOPRO

Waste of money
Have had 2 cameras and BOTH have FAILED. 2nd was a fully refurbished factory checked camera.
Will not connect to PC via use cable
Lost and corrupt video files
Changes photo mode by itself to burst and then takes hundreds and hundreds of unwanted photos.
Freezes and only way to stop is to remove battery. Not possible in the water.
To make it worse - Gopro support not helpful and head office NOT interested in resolving issues. I have spent many hours on the phone and chat.

Not worth upgrading from Hero 3.......
After setting the world on fire with Gopro 3 & establishing the standard for action camera - the Hero 5 is unreliable and cheaply made compared to its predecessor. Fittings are no where near as robust as before and break far too easily. Software is clunky, unreliable and frustrating. Would not recommend upgrading or if a new to action camera, check out alternatives. Gopro obviously now too driven by profit to keep manufacturing a reliable robust camera with good supporting software.

GoPro Hero5 Session - bad product and do not last
****Poor product*****
If I could give zero stars, I would. I have trouble from the start. It always overheats and did not turn off properly. We went back to Harvey Norman and told to hard reboot the GoPro but the overheats and not able to turn off properly does not seem to go away. Now out of warranty....used less than 20 times and its dead. What a waste of money.....

Unreliable waste of money
Received this as a present as have been wanting one for ages. Don't get me wrong, while it lasted it took decent pictures. After approx 4 months of minimal use it just stoped working. Trying to get it fixed (anywhere) has been a nightmare and I have all but given up. No one fixes them. At least not in Australia. It seems it is part of GoPro business plan to not fix them hoping simply you'll buy another. Absolute waste of money. Buy something else that actually cares about after care.

Do not take in water
I took my then 13 month old hero5 black into the water for the first time and after about 5 mins it beeped and displayed an overheating message. I swam back to the boat dried it off and took out the battery (as it was hot and it wouldn't turn off a few days prior either) and it had water inside.
While this is in general a great little unit which produces wonderful quality video and images I can only give it a 1 star because they don't backup their advertising claims with product support. So despite stating the hero 5 is waterproof in their ...Read more
marketing paraphernalia, they won't honour water damage which is a bit of an oxymoron. Any online search will reveal a plethora of customers whose units have leaked. If you contact them Gopro may offer a 20-40% discount on a new full priced unit from their online store but won't replace it (exceptions I have seen were a professional videographer and the owner of a large travel blog).Similar opinion? Hero 5 black - not happy with quality
Battery life is poor. When battery goes flat the internal clock is incorrect, so my videos always import with incorrect date. Condensation inside the front lens that ruins photos. Just today the cable door latch broke, I have only opened it perhaps 15 times. I never let my children touch it and I have been very careful with it, still so many problems. So disappointed.

Great camera
We use the GoPro 5 a lot when travelling/snorkelling/hiking and have never had a problem. You do need to learn how to use it to the best of its ability though. Only reason for 4 stars is because my brother had the same and his leaked but he took it back to jbhifi and they replaced it.

Good camera but not for beginners
I had to exchange my first camera because the battery door wasn’t shutting properly. The second version works well but it is a bit temperamental with the voice commands. This product has various functions but it fails to provide enough i instructions on how to use it. You basically have to buy a separate book or listen to YouTube videos to learn how to use it. Most functions aren’t intuitive. The batteries run out really quick which is a pain when in the middle of action sports. On the positive side, picture quality is excellent, fun to use and never had problems with the water proofing. It’s quite expensive for a camera, but fun once you get the hang of it.

GoPro - No waterproof guarantee for a waterproof product
Gopro hero 5 leaking when snorkeling. Contacted support (while under warranty) to check what they could do about it but they don’t cover water damages (what a convenient policy for something that should be waterproof). They did offer a 50% discount to buy a new one however I should send my camera to them with all the expenses on me. In my opinion it is not fair, I’ve spent $600 bucks for a product that last 7 months, only used a couple of time and now I have to spend another 300+shipping for a product that I don’t even know if will have the sam...Read more
e problem again? I can prove my point shooting a video showing all the doors being closed right but even though leaking water. Very disappointed, it is alright to have a faulty product, but it is not alright to not admit it. So please think twice before spend all this money in this camera and google it around and you will find so many similar cases as mine.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great footage, program not quite there yet
Bought this for my partner for Christmas for a ski trip we are on right now. Seems very easy to charge, attach to helmet/selfie stick and film. It also has an led screen now so you can review footage before having to put on computer. Also had gps data, distance gone, altitude etc. Program by gopro isn't quite there yet though. Can only put 60 sec blocks of footage on social media. They need to update their editing program.

It leaks
Used it snorkeling - water got in every time - it’s now stopped working. I bought this for water sports - and was very clear in this requirement - but the product clearly has a design fault with seals. Unacceptable GoPro - you’ve lost me forever. Mine is now in the bin!

Great picture quality but many disappointments
I think GoPro jumped the gun a bit early in getting rid of the waterproof housing. I know too many people who have had dramas with water leaking. I didn't trust the waterproofing so had to fork out quite a bit of money for a Scuba Housing which is just like the old waterproof housing except you have to pay a tonne for it...and you have to remove the front of the lens on the camera to install it! The lens cover is very difficult to remove.
I like that the screen is built in. Auto-orientation is disappointing as it doesn't change as you move t...Read more
he camera, it just orientates for the start of the shot and stays that way no matter which way the camera is orientated. Battery life is woeful, you need to buy a lot of them. The app and GoPro studio are a bit cumbersome and can be unreliable with crashes etc. On the plus side, it does record beautiful images, it's easy to use and has some great accessories available to purchase.Similar opinion? Not waterproof and worst customer service
Bought this camera specifically as do a lot of travelling and wanted an easy camera to take with an be able to use in the water. That was until used in the ocean to go snorkelling and after 5mins the camera shuts off despite being fully charged. After drying it out and opening it up it has water all through it and it's completely destroyed. Contacted Gopro who said it was user error in not sealing it properly and would not cover it under warranty. That's all based off sending them a few photos of the damage they are able to assess the camera is...Read more
n't at fault! The gopro was in it's original housing and after testing to see if any of the compartments could be slightly left ajar and still fit in it, it's pretty much impossible. Do a quick google search and this is clearly a common issue with this camera. Worst is that Gopro basically ignore all follow up emails relating to the claim. Not a very professional company and clearly those that have given it 5 stars haven't had the unfortunate pleasure of using a leaky camera in water yet! It's no wonder Gopro is floundering as a company and is trading at all time lows with poor sales and increased debt. Guess it won't be long before it goes bankrupt and the company becomes obsolete. Probably a good thing too! Oh if the same thing happens to you, just take the camera back to where you bought it from. Took mine back to the Good Guys and they offered to replace it, but I just got my money back instead!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Nice
Used my Gopro hero5 now for ten months. Great robust action camera that is compact. Disappointingly It would sometimes freeze and the battery needed to be taken out every now and then. Other than this it is a great camera with many freatures, too many to list. Logical touchscreen menu.... My Gopro had an issue after 10 months. Gopro really helpfully and issued a new camera. Extremely happy with their service.
