I love my SV6 Sportswagon! (love at first sight)
Before you call me a one eyed Holden nut, lets get one thing straight. Until 2014 I totally ignored Holden and wrote off Commodores as rough unrefined Boganmobiles (I now regret my ignorance).
I've named her Holly, because of the Regal Peacock paint (dark green) and having a gorgeous accent (female voice) for the voice command. Voice command for dialing phone numbers, issuing Sat nav commands, etc. works great by the way. She was given to me as a company car with my previous employer. My previous Commodore drive was a VN / VR and VC which di...Read more
d not impress so hence my flaw in judging a brand on a previous experience! Having moved from a Daewoo and Suzuki Swift small car I could not miss the level of refinement, comfort, performance and street presence this car has! Winding the clock forward 14 months the employer I worked for folded up and I decided I could not leave Holly behind! Financially it made a lot of sense to buy her out for $31K (was $43K optioned up) at only 18 months old. I have ridden in some upmarket cars such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, etc. in the past and I still cannot get over how Holden have made such a rewarding and relatively refined car to drive for such a modest outlay. The one thing these overseas cars can't give you is the strong patriotic feeling you get driving something special that is Australian made. The 3.6 Litre V6 / 6 speed auto never disappoints for performance (and not bad an engine note) despite being a little thirsty for short drives in town (13/14 L/100KM) I've managed to get almost 900 KM on a tank interstate dipping into the low 7's / L100KM. However given the 1750 KG weight you can't have everything. That extra weight really help high speed cruising and surefooted road handling.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great value (not sure about the future models)
Handling, braking, performance great. Does use more fuel than a Corolla or Hyundai - but what do you expect for the level of performance, load carrying and safety? Gets 8 l/100km on open road which surely is OK. Engine sounds great in V8, acceptable in my other car which is a V6. Hope new model is as good.

The good, the bad and the ugly...
I picked up a SV6 auto wagon and drove around Sydney and then onto Melbourne and around that city. I own and drive an FGX XR8 auto so was keen to compare. Vehicle had 30K kms on the clock
DRIVING - First noted the steering was a little lighter than the Ford. Handling of the Ford was better too but then comparing the SV6 against the XR8 may be a little unfair. Transmission is smooth and road noise is very low. Engine lacks a little performance but is smooth. Economy was reasonable - much better than the XR8. A pillar is obstructive of front and...Read more

Comfortable family experience but surprisingly agile.
I hired a wagon to ferry the family from Brisbane to Ballina and back while my wife was working and the kids and I because wandering tourists. What surprised me straight off the bat was the throttle response and overall acceleration was what I though pretty average. In so much that I felt my 2010 Toyota Kruger would have given it a run for its money so from an old petrol head who's open up engines upgraded cams etc etc it wasn't inspiring. That said we went for a boot through some hills where there seemed to be an endless amount of motorcyclis...Read more
ts overtaking me so I decided to try to sit behind a Ducati which it found surprisingly good at. The build quality seems fine all dashing leather, new car smell as you would expect. But the SAT NAV was something out of the space shuttle with all the info available. So we stopped 10 minutes into our journey to retrieve the trusty brought from home Nuvi65. Fuel economy was quite good especially on the open Rd can't remember exactly what the trip computer said but I thought it wasn't far off the kluger at home so I was happy in that respect. Love to try out the V8 version.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

VF Sports Wagon - what a car
Have now had my Calais V V8 Sports wagon for almost a year.
Its quite, powerful well equipped and well finished.
The V8 which runs as a 4 Cylinder when lightly loaded like on a Free-way - has given me a best of 7.7 Litres per 100KM.
Pleasure to drive.
The equipment level is comparable to much more expensive imports, and the price is much sweeter.
What a pity that our car manufacturing in Australia will soon end.
Is it perfect - NO
Find the Voice Commands to the GPS is hit and miss.
Sometimes its perfect.
Other times - i do get frustrated with it, and pull over and enter the address manually.

SV6 Wagon - Aussie Beast
LOVE this car! Handles so well, put the foot down and it flies. Averages about 9-10 litres per 100kms for petrol which is not bad for a V6! When I took it in for a service I found it had something like 13 recalls but I actually had experienced no problems. It's a quality car a great price and Aussie built. Well done Holden.

Hire car with some issues
Hired a Commodore SIDI SV6 wagon from Avis in Perth on a 15 day SW W.A. trip with friends. Cargo capacity is good. Ride is o.k. on smooth surfaces but with the low profile tyres & body kit it scraps on every rough surface and does not ride well. Rear passengers sit lower and it is hard to alight. As well the rear belts sit to high on the shoulders of some people & actually cut into the neck area, very uncomfortable. Side mirrors are designed for makeup application rather than vision and rear windscreen is a porthole. Reverse gear "beep" is at best annoying and serves no purpose.
Not much
In addition this is a thirsty vehicle and when laden, has poor take off.

VF Sports wagon is Great value for money !
Although this is a company vehicle we do get a choice, having ordered Camry sedans previously I decided to give the Commy a chance as I had used colleagues VE's and liked the idea of having a wagon again. I have to say although I had reservations I am happy with my choice, being the Evoke it is what is considered the "base model" however I doubt too many will consider it that way ?
Outwardly there is not much to distinguish it from the VE Sports wagon apart from the front end but inside is where it gets the make over, the cabin feels more E...Read more
uropean styling wise with several different materials used being cloth, chrome, gloss paint etc on the dash. Instruments are large and easily read, there are many digital read outs with fuel consumption, speed, speed alert, distance to empty etc etc. The stalks are well positioned with the trip computer functions on the right "indicator" stalk and the wipers on the left, all are within easy reach too. A good move was putting the cruise on the left side of the steering wheel as this makes it so easy to control, the stereo / phone controls are on the right, I will say the stereo sound is of a good quality and I found the voice commands work well and the phone speaker also clear and concise. The window / mirror controls are finally on the drivers door and the central cup holders should work well for most drinks except cartons. There are now 3 x 12v power outlets, one in the front of the console which is much better for the GPS and one in the storage bin as well as a USB port, there is a third 12v in the cargo area. The glove box is a decent size and so are the door pockets, a nice touch is that the inside door handles have small lamps to illuminate them, weirdly they have gone back to the old door lock buttons which for some may be annoying if you rest your arm on the door sill ? Strangely the two front vanity mirrors are not illuminated ? It has dual zone climate control although sometimes it seems to struggle to work out the right temp even though it does have the software upgrade since it was found to have temp control issues on first release, you will know as if it has the upgrade as when setting the temp you will note the readout will show 29 deg then Hi if it's upgraded and 30 deg then Hi if it isn't. A nice feature is the remote start which will be great on extreme weather days, just activate it and it starts the car, it then will heat / cool the cabin before you officially get in (ensure you set the climate before you exit though) as it will only do whatever it was last told to on the last exit. Note the car stays locked and will shut down if you don't get in after a pre determined time. It has a reverse camera, parking sensors front and rear and also the auto park feature, I have tried it and it worked well, this is the one where it will pre determine an available space and alert you, just stop, put into reverse and it will steer you in. You have to select the feature before you begin looking for a space as it is switchable on and off and you still have to control the brake but it is easy as. One thing I did note is the panel gaps and paint finish are excellent, the tail gate now closes without having to slam it as was a problem on the VE. It now has an electrically assisted latch in that you can close it softly and it will pull the gate closed, I believe they introduced this on the last of the VE's as a later fleet VE apparently has this too. One BIG plus is they have reworked that awful A pillar so that you can actually see where you are going when turning right, I noticed this massive blind spot driving a VE and their efforts mean you no longer even notice it as an issue.4 comments
Recent issue was a rough start (stalled) followed by an engine warning light with a successful start eventually, dealer unable to provide a reason so disconnected battery, waited an hour and reconnected. Issue resolved.
Had an ESP service warning come up and it began to have harsh down changes as it did on a prior rough start issue. Again I disconnected the battery, reconnected after a few hours and it reset so no need to go to a dealer if this happens.

MMM had a minor rattle / annoying noise which turned out to be coming from the passenger seat belt stalk vibrating, it was changed under warranty and no longer exists, weird !
