Beyond deplorable service for my elderly and unwell parents
I am near lost for words at the atrociousness of Hostplus' "service".
My elderly and unwell parents have both made the downsizer contribution following the sale of their family home and what an absolute saga it has been thanks to Hostplus' total lack of guidance on process and general internal maladministration. This delayed Mum and Dad receiving returns for nearly a month in the beginning. After various emails and phone calls rollover forms, certified copies of enduring power of attorney documentation and updated binding death benefit document
5 days to reply to an email is a joke
I have a claims officer and every time I send an email I get an automated reply saying “unashamedly” I’ll receive a reply within 5 days (it’s always 5 days). I have been trying to finalise my late husbands estate/super for months and because of the 5 day turn-around for every little thing it’s taking forever. When people are grieving and my name is the only one to appear on my husbands super - please make it easier. Also regular people don’t have photocopiers stop asking me to photocopy documents.

Abhorrent customer service
This company is so, so negligent when it comes to communication and general admin behind the scenes. Three strikes with me so far and I've only been a member for not even a month. They took way too long to open my account, they then paid me way too much money from TTR pension when I didn't even have access to my online account to arrange any payments, another week later to reply to my phone message re return of the overpayment, and now I'm waiting again for them to acknowledge they have received the overpayment back to redeposit to my account. I would not recommend this company to anyone! Look elsewhere.

Unbelievably bad.
Hostplus lost our withdrawal applications for 3 weeks and consistently lied about it.
The time before the money took 2 weeks to get yo our bank after the funds left our super accounts.
Now Hostplus has decided to send my partner's entire balance to the ATO for no apparent reason.
We have been misled by various customer services personnel each time.
And it's almost impossible to speak to anyone higher up the ladder who knows what they're talking about.
Goodbye Hostplus.

Too much hassle
Like others who have posted on this site about this company, I'd advise against having a retirement pension with them. Prior to starting my pension I phoned and was told that, as I had an accumulation account with Hostplus, it would only take about 5 business days for my pension account details to be processed and my pension to start. It took 10 weeks and a series of emails and frustrating phone calls.

Change incorrect DOB
On my 3rd time to get my DOB changed...got paperwork certified. My birth certificate does look a little different to others cause I changed my 1st name many years ago. But HostPlus are so intelligent they think it's a Marriage Certificate lol no other name on the certificate just mine...surely they are not that ....

Appalling customer service
I sent documents via mail in mid May to access my funds from my superannuation.
Followed up a couple of weeks later to told that they never received them.
I resent my documents again via registered mail on the 12th of June 2023 and followed it up again 20th June to be told again don't have documents. Will escalate it, nothing happened.
Called again on the 21st June still same story, will escalate, nothing happened again.
Called again on the 22nd June same story again, getting the picture.

I had my super with hostplus and following a horrendous series of interactions with numerous staff and eventually begging for a measly $5000 withdrawal...I transferred my funds to Brighter Super as a ROLLOVER.
So much easier to deal with and no snail mail involved in withdrawal of funds!
I thought I was done with hostplus until last Friday...the ATO have taken $115,000 out of my super because hostplus ticked ENCC instead of ROLLOVER when they filled out the paperwork for the ATO.

I applied for income protection on the 13th of June and I received a letter today. My request got declined "due to height/weight ratio (BMI)". My request got rejected BECAUSE I'M FAT! I will definitely not be staying with hostplus.

I rang regarding their 'Significant Notice' about changes and additions to their super options. What a joke! the guy could only repeat "we are not financial advisors" i wasn't asking a financial question i was questioning if i was reading the graph correctly! NO HELP WHATSOEVER, I WILL take the time to change my fund. Suggest you do the same.

In the Royal Commission conducted over stolen super in Australia, my superannuation was one of the instances where it was stolen. My superannuation was sold to another company, and a fee charged from it for the sale. This was repeated ad nauseam until there was none left. I received a letter in the mailbox each time it was sold until there was only 2 cents left. I never received any compensation for the crime.

worst company i ever dealt with
Why when i deposit it takes 24hours to go in to account,11 weeks so far when trying to withdraw and nothing,call centre have a script and tell you nothing.Worst of all they are not accountable to anyone and can play with you as long as they like.

No communication, No transparency, No action on escalation requests.
5 separate requests to have super rolled into my SMSF. Still not completed or actioned!
Multiple requests to have this escalated or discussed with a higher up, each time ignored or an internal request raised, which surprise surprise is never actioned. Advised internal dispute resolution process - Requests for escalations will be actioned within 5 business days, requested 24/5, 31/5, 5/6 still no response.. Completely unacceptable. In an industry so heavily regulated this is unacceptable. Further discussions will be had with the regulatory body.

Not worth the trouble
I’ve made two superstream applications to rollover my super into an SMSF. They denied they received either whilst my wife’s fund responded to the first within a week. It’s been a month and now they’ve resorted to posting letters claiming they need more information. They have MY money and are stalling handing it over. Infuriating.

Absolutely horrible fund. We have been waiting for Hostplus to sign off on our intent to claim for tax reasons for some time now. It has been too long and we are facing fines because it has gone on for too long. I am another innocent victim of Hostplus and I have lost tens of thousands of dollars due to their mismanagement.
Judging by the reviews on this website and their rating of 1.5 stars there are hundreds of people who have suffered a terrible loss, including many people like me who can least afford it.
If you have a Telegram account or Discord etc could you please let us know so that we can create a united force and hopefully take legal action.
Obviously Hostplus have a strong presence on this website. They are aggressively and systematically trying to sweep problems under the carpet. It must be costing them a fortune but they do it anyway because they don't want their victims to unite.

3 months plus and still waiting for funds
I sent in two requests for payment within a few weeks of each other. One was paid, the first payment was not received. The help desk told me that they thought I didn’t want the first payment. No contact whatsoever was made regarding this
Three months later and I am still waiting to receive my funds. Apparently the payment was made in April into someone else’s bank account. Hostplus transposed two bank account numbers when making the payment.
I am still waiting and wondering what it is they are not telling me. I believe any mistake on their part should result in immediate remedy, but apparently not.
I have written a complaint and was told I would be contacted last Thursday. Still waiting.

I have recently gotten married and changed my name with medicare, my bank, vicroad, my TFN, work, utility bills etc everything except HOSTPLUS. I don't feel comfortable sending ALL my signed and witnessed documents through the post to another state. If the mail was lost on the way and fell into the wrong hands the person would have SIGNED - WITNESSED documents with ALL my details! Customer service is a disgrace
Submitted documentation in June 2022 and still waiting on a confirmation. I've followed up on both email and phone and none of the agents understood what I was asking for. Finally spoke to someone today who informed me my confirmation was in progress and would be issued in 5-7 working days from date of submission - which apparently in his system was 5 working days ago. Asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there wasn't one but that a call back within 48 hours from the customer care team was possible. After 11 months of waiting, I have no choice but to continue to wait. Will be reconsidering my membership.

having read all very negative reviews of Hostplus decided to test the water by requesting full redemption of all monies, Very happy to report that funds were placed in to my account as per details held by Hostplus, within 48 hours.I will say that previous communications with Hostplus have been extremely frustrating but just maybe they have lifted their game consequently will be returning funds to Hostplus
Fake reviews from Hostplus to make their rating better
Hostplus has been spamming this topic with fake reviews for the past year in order to improve its rating. Because of their poor investment decisions, I lost 10% of my super. Hostplus CEO [Name Removed] was named the best-paid industry super fund executive in Australia for the fiscal year ending June 2022, earning $1.33 million, a rise from $1.2 million the previous year. They are stealing from us and depositing it in their own bank account.
Unethical behaviour for payment
Don't get me wrong, strong performance during trying economic times. However, when I decided to move to a self managed super fund there has been obstacle after obstacle from this organisation. Feigning ignorance on paperwork forwarded to them and refusing to roll over the funds when given ample opportunity. Terrible behaviour. I have been with this fund for the better part of 25 years and this is my farewell gift?

Submitted a claim back in February 2023 for release of funds. Got an email back in April after multiple chasing from my end, “incorrectly certified and unclear” re-submit the documents, received April 27 no update from host plus. only to now on 9 May (after multiple requests for an update) I tried to chat 3 times via the online chat only to be disconnect each time. I then called super to be informed that my id is again incorrectly certified and un-clear.. three times I have express posted documents to Hostplus, $30+ in postage fees, countless hours wasted waiting to speak with someone.. I’m extremely frustrated & will be making a complaint with the ombudsman.. would not recommend Hostplus to anyone

I've been with them since 2000. Applied to withdraw some funds. I called them after a week and also got in touch via chat as I had not heard from them or received any funds (initially they told me it will take 3 to 5 working days) they lost my application which was express posted to them over a week ago. I've been calling them everyday and everyday they tell me a manager or a team leader will call me back - what a joke. Hostplus you are slack and do nothing but lie, lie, lie. I regret ever dealing with you!!! Pathetic!!! You have lost my application and to this day you won't admit it or ask me to resubmit it. I'm still waiting for the funds! So unprofessional.

I have just finished reading all the reviews. Its exactly the same excuses and lies they have been telling me. Its obviously a tactict that this dishonest company uses to hold onto everyones money. How can this be allowed !!!
I have been trying for 6 weeks now to roll my super over to my SMSF, I have had 2 email replies saying my BSB has declined.I have made over 30 calls and it's getting more corrupt by the day. My complaint has gone from 24-48 hours for a team leader to get back to me, as this 48 hours has past it has now gone to 45 days.

Was assured by call centre in response to numerous phone calls over the next three weeks that application was progressing and would take up to 10 working days. Easter break meant this stretched the timeframe. On Wednesday 19 Apr 23 I was told by the call centre that my application hadn’t been registered and had been lost. I requested the matter be escalated. Told I’d get a call within 48 hours and to resubmit the paperwork. Still waiting for the callback two weeks later. Resubmitted new application on 20 Apr 23 via registered express post. It was delivered to Hostplus Mail Bag on Monday 24 Apr 23. I followed up with regular calls. Told application registered Wed 26 Apr around 1.30 pm. Told approved by assessor on 1 May 23 and to expect payment within two days. Called Wed 3 May told application sent to trustees on Monday 1 May. Ask to escalate the issue again. Still waiting for a call back. And of course no funds have been transferred. On my second call on 4 May I insisted that I speak to a supervisor. I was firm but polite saying I would not hang up until I spoke to a supervisor. 20 minutes later I finally got to speak to a supervisor. Like several of the operations she was flabbergasted after reviewing my file notes. In particular she couldn’t believe it took until 19 Apr to admit the application had been lost. Also she noted that the 1 May inquiry had not been followed up nor why the escalation at 9am on 3 May also hadn’t been followed. Got a promise she wiill follow up with the processing teams and advise me on 5 May. Hope she is as good as her word but I am not convinced she will have any more luck in motivation the Hostplus corporate sloth into action.Thanks for reaching out to us. Easy to set up, a NIGHTMARE to claim your funds or transfer them to another account. Dont waste your time and use other funds. Worst customer service ever too

Recently I posted a negative review regarding Hostplus, citing bad customer service and a perceived lack of accountability. I am now pleased to report that things have changed, including my opinion. After my first post on Product Review, the rapid response from [Name Removed] at Hostplus was greatly appreciated. Everything she said Hostplus would do, was completed today. I couldn't be happier, so some confidence in Hostplus has now been restored. Thank you [Name Removed] and Hostplus.
Sucks big time
I have finally got round to reading all these negative reviews and can only agree !! After years of paying in I now can’t get my money out, 7-9 working days try 21 and I’ve had my request upgraded to critical . After this last failure to transfer I couldn’t even speak to a supervisor or any type of management, They will get back to me in 2-3 days ! Pity I needed the money today . good luck trying to get money out.
I am semi retired and now have several income streams that require a simple and efficient transfer of money. Hostplus do everything they can to hold your money as long as they can. They still work from a 30 year old handbook that will require documents to be posted and then claim postage takes 2 weeks to arrive from interstate, something I find very difficult to accept having worked for Australia Post and then claim 5 days to process. When you question anything about this their attitude is - take it or leave it - so naturally I will be leaving. Let's hope I don't have the same problem others have had in rolling my funds to a more user friendly company.

Incompetent appalling company with no care for the stress they cause

I had to give 1 star as I had to put something down,
After the way I have n still being treated by hostplus super with my TPD claim.
I got told on the 30th of march this year I would have my money in 5 working days.
Iam still waiting, they know I'm going through bad financial difficulties, as my lawyer keeps telling them, but hostplus don't care if you go hungry they just hang on to my money, I will be telling everyone to stay away from hostplus super.

Stay clear
This is the worst fund. They sent me a letter outlining they incorrectly withdrew fees from my account and were going to reimburse me, only to keep taking fees and not be reimbursed. Ive enquired 4 times now about the letter they sent me and no one understands it. Customer service is very poor. I’m transferring all my super elsewhere

I have been trying to roll over my super for 2 months now and keep getting the same reply 5 to 10 business days... Also dealt with [Name Removed] from customer service what an absolute rude human being.
Please stay clear of this fund unless you are willing to wait months on end to transfer funds.

A quick update. My rollover has now been completed which took well over a month since requesting. If you need to call customer service just keep calling till you get a Aussie.
Or better yet just don't join.

Honestly the worst fund I have ever dealed with. I have been trying to roll my funds out for 2 months now and they do not accept relevant documents via email and only post which prolongs the process. You have to call them to check where it’s up to as they will not contact me first even though it’s their job to do my request. Each time I call, they say they need something else instead of telling me right from the get go everything they need. I have now sent in all requested documents and forgot to include my DOB and they now want me to fill out

And I will need to call up and follow with them to have to wait in a queue and then when they answer they put me in hold to “check up” on it.
