I Reviewed this mower after owning it for 21/2 years when it was OK and still under warranty.
" have had this mower for approx. 2 1/2 years during this time apart from a cutter head bearing collapsing and the fuel filler cap needing THOR to open or close it has been excellent.
My neighbor bought one several months ago and the front wheel fell off on the 2nd mow ???"
BUT just before the 5year warranty period finished the welds on the chassis bracket to the transaxle broke and I thought the transaxle was failing - repaired under warranty.
Just ov...
Read moreer 5 years the chassis rail on the R/H side cracked all the way through and I was forced to repair the fracture. Now at the 5 1/2 year finished warranty point the L/H chassis/chair mount where it mounts to the support the transaxle has completely broken away. I weigh 72kg so if you weigh over that you might want to be very careful in your choice of mowers. It's still good BUT!!!! ------
Purchased in November 2015 for $4,200.
I bought my TS 238 in 2018, it was 1.5 years old and had about 90 hours on the clock. I was nice to drive, very manoeuvrable and cut neatly on flat lawn. My kids like driving it and mowing. But in the springtime when the grass was lush and about 100mm high, it would clog up the grass delivery shoot to the catcher. It it is a long plastic curving tube that delivers cut grass to the rear catcher. It is no bigger than the rear grass shoot on my 4.5 hp walk behind mower, so that is the first design flaw. I catches at the lower edge where it is mov...
Read moreing from the mower deck up into the delivery tube. Our property is completely flat, and during spring has thick lush grass. At a 100 hours, it broke the drive belt for the mower deck, and in replacing it I found that 6 of the 8 bearing on the deck were worn, rusty and had almost no grease. These are the bearings for the two short blade drive shafts, and the bearings in the tensioner/change of direction belt gearbox. Not impressed about that. The Husqvarna dealer noticed that the belt pulleys mounted on the tensioner bracket were askew, not aligned, out of allignment about 20 degrees, seemed to be due to the weak bracket they were mounted on. Bent it back into place Soon after repair it broke the propulsion drive belt. Then at 150 hours it broke the mower deck belt broke again, this time the previous bracket had bent/twisted again so two pulleys were askew, and as well, the back idler pulley right up by the engine drive pulley, was also misalligned, and a full 15 mm too low for the belt coming off the heavy main drive pulley. It took a day to modify both faults. The bracket was strengthened with long weld beads. The back idler bracket had to be modied to sit up higher and have two bolts clamping it, not just the factory one. All this was done in consultation with the dealer who was very helpful. Next the tensioner spring broke, the belt jumped off got caught and nearly burnt out a third mower deck drive pulley at about 160 hours use. These faults may be corrected but I think the design engineering in these mowers is very poor. My advice is to check pulley alignments, and belts to preempt belt wear from this possible fault. I would now recommend that the plastic guards be removed on the two outsides of the mower deck. it is better to be able to see what is happening down there, and to clear grass and rubbish that accumulates very quickly in the recess above the blade. I B&D engine is a very good unit, just changed the oils and filters and works faultlesslyPurchased in November 2018 for $6,000.
I find the mower ok however I paid $900 for the grass catcher and it is absolutely useless. What a waste of money... picks up a handful of grass and leaves the rest in chunks on the lawn. I will be contacting manufacturer to see what they have to say

I found it hard to find any reviews on the TS 242, so I thought I would give my opinion, as I traded my LT 2142 model single cylinder in on this model twin cylinder. Well, firstly the day I picked it up it cut out half way through the mowing, then refused to start, let it cool down (1 hr ) it started then would keep stopping, I rang the dealer took it over had to leave it ( 4 days ) then picked it up, and the same thing again, this happened 3-4 times after going back to dealer, it was in the workshop for the first 4 weeks I owned it, they event...
Read moreually fixed it with new modifications to carby arm, springs and temp alteration. Now Husqvarna has really made a mess of this new model, comparing it to the LT 2142, they changed the steering setup, now it takes more effort but it's a larger turning circle (bad).... It now has a crazy press button light combo, which malfunctioned and had to be replaced, the twin cylinder is supposed to be quieter than the single LT model, WRONG, this model is LOUD ! ... The LT used to be a breeze to do oil and filter change, so Husqvarna decided to change a brilliant system into a flimsy over complicated system where you have to dismantle bodywork to do the job....Next is the ride, it's so rough and jarring that you feel like your on a WRX STI on steroids with ultra low profile wheels, to simplify, wear a kidney belt ! .... The transmission is basic quality, but I have noticed that at certain times it tends to jerk a bit, no where near as smooth as my old LT.... On the bright side it has enough power to do the normal work. In summary if I had my time again I would have kept my Lt 2142 model, and I have had Cub Cadet, Murray, Toro and now Husvarna, so would I buy a Husqvarna again, probably not, as I think that a company that goes backwards with a new model is not the sharpest knife in the draw. Hope this helps.Find out how Husqvarna 200 Series compares to other Ride-On Mowers
Know better, choose better.
Nice to use, pretty comfy and good turning circle are about the only positives.
Under 10 hrs - missfiring, back firing, bearing went and the battery died. The deck has split, yes I hit a rock but the pressed steel is like soft butter. Avoid rocks... or anything but soft short grass for that matter. Had a horrid squeal/scraping noise when moving/driving. Pulled the front wheel off and found no grease on the spindle and the washer had started tearing the spindle out. Pulled all the wheels off to find they were the same. Cleaned and greased ...
Read morethem myself. The front wheels were so out of alignment that they would tear the grass when driving. Fixed that myself with a tape measure..... Back to the dealer who charged me for new plugs and air filter (and 200 buck to pick up and return it to me!)...... told me that it was my fault because (they reckon) I hadnt been running it at full throttle when mowing..... they replaced the bearing and battery under warranty. Within two mows it started to back fire again. 20 hrs and its running like an angry hairy goat, sort of sounds like the old stationary engines you see at country shows. Would not recommend this mower to anyone. Dont think I will ever buy anything husqvarna again.
2 hours old and 1.5 hours of that is trying to start it only will start after sitting all night warmed it up and tied choke in off position still wont start when hot checked spark and is a very week also I think both spindels have failed as they were to hot to touch and making horrible sound with blades engaged not happy and would not not buy 1 of these heaps of crap if I had my time over

An update to my " Purchasers review Husqvarna TS 242 " ........ To add to my already disappointment with this machine, I have had the quick release cover on the blades fly off, loud rattles from the d...
Read moreeck which I believe is the spindles, and a recall letter telling me to have the machine inspected as the fault could have it catch fire ! ..... After a very short time in releasing this piece of garbage, Husqvarna have discontinued the model, by replacing the ludicrous press button starter, replacing the quick release blades back to standard setup, replacing B&S motor with a base model kawasaki motor ! ....... Husqvarna / B&S knew that this was a lemon when it was released, as the dealers service department were constantly trying to cope with many repair issues with many TS 242's. The final blow came when I had had enough with the constant problems and tried to trade it in, the dealer I purchased from offered a pathetic amount on my near new ride-on, because nobody wanted this model from reputation and the fact that Husqvarna released an improved model less all the complaints they gathered from suckers like me ! ........ No way will I ever trust nor buy another Husqvarna product again, and god help the people who did not take the 5 year warranty, I just hope they honour it !
