Nothing is perfect in this world but this mower is close.
Boy so many negative reviews, I'm johnny homeowner and mechanic by trade. 2 acres of western North Carolina grass and weeds cut at 3.5" height. I have Hustler Fastrack 48" with a Kaw 22HP FS651. Between my wife and I we put on average of 46 hrs a year in the past 7 years with normal maintenance (per manual) check tire pressure the begin of each month and have no major problems. 1-2019 I was performing normal maintenance plus had oil leak (crank seal) and one spindle bearing set growling - have order bearings, no dealer, no big problem look them...Read more
up on line. After the first season i order aftermarket Gator Blades not the cheap ones and can not complain about the mower performance or reliability. Yes it likes fuel, but your operating this equipment wide open throttle! For the individual that broke the end of the crank shaft I just wonder if he was engaging the PTO at high RPM. Read the book it tells you engage/disengage at idle and raise or lower throttle. reading the price that some of these people paid WOW! I gave $5,500.00 new and thought that was to much. guess it is all on how use and maintain your investment. One last note this mower has giving my 22 year old leaf blower a break, by antecedent i had back the mower up next the tree line and found it does a great job of blowing leaves on the final pass going backwards, just be careful.Similar opinion? Never Again
I bought a Hustler mower for $6500 and it had 140 hours on it when the shaft that engages the blades sheared in half. I took it back to my dealer and it was out of warranty. The verdict was the engine and mower deck were both damaged beyond repair. So for my 6500 i got about 2 years of mowing about 1/2 acre of normal grass. I will NEVER buy a Hustler again!!!! I tried to deal directly with Hustler and they said too bad it was a Kawasaki problem not theirs. I could swear i bought the mower at a Hustler dealer.

Buyers Remorse!!!!
I have the 48" Hustler Fastrak HD... I bought it in November of 2016 but really didn't put it to good use until March 2017 so basically I've only used it for 3 months. After a short time of using this mower I've got some serious buyers remorse. I've already had one spindle replaced and after 3 weeks of that being replaced I now have another spindle going out. I was told that the 48" decks are notorious for this problem. Yes, it was covered under warranty and this one will be too, however, owning a Lawn Care Business I'm having to put my mower i...Read more
n the shop and waiting until this is repaired and in the meantime I'm losing money. Today is Sunday 6/18/17 and tomorrow 6/19/17 I'll be dropping it off once again and once again I'll be losing money because my equipment sits in a repair shop. "Not Impressed" !!! Hustler has two choices in my opinion, they either get their crap right or consider a buy back, I don't have time for this. I plan on calling the manufacturer about this after I drop it off for the second time, I'm already prepared for the "run around" which will be unacceptable! One would think that by paying thousands of $$ for a mower it would last more than 3 months!!! August 30th 2017 Update: Another round of buyers remorse I recently wrote a review about this mower about a month ago and just when I thought it couldn't get any worse it Has! On 8/25/17 (Friday Morning) I unloaded my mower to my first job site of the day. I drove it to the back yard, engaged the mower and made two swipes only to quickly realize I threw my drive belt. One would think that losing a drive belt wouldn't be that big of a deal, even I thought the same thing. After I got the belt back on I started it back up to continue mowing and out of nowhere it was making one heck of a noise. I cut it back off but couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. I loaded it back on my trailer and once again here I go back to the place I bought it from. It was there I was told that when it threw the belt it threw it up and got tangled up in the fans that cools the transmission (there's 2 of them and there made out of plastic) it wiped out both fans. Absolutely Poor Design Again! I'm finding out in my 5 months of operating this mower there are numerous design flaws including the two spindles I've had replaced previously. I have placed a call to the factory rep for my area, do you think he's called me back yet? (NOPE)... So once again my mower sits in the shop and once again I'm losing money... Find out how Hustler FasTrak 48" Kawasaki FR691 compares to other Ride-On Mowers
Know better, choose better.
I can help you
This machine is great. I live in the Kimberley Australia. I had a John Deere that just didnt do it. To be fair it was old and started to cost me with down time. 5 acres and I needed a goer. Look honestly they are put together really well. Strongly engineered and well supported even in this back water. I read plenty of disappointing purchases of Hustler but I can tell you ridgey didge that they can cut it. Easy to service and maintain. I had to tell you all that you wont be disappointed. Hope this helps with your decision. Im happy, very satisfied. Steve - Price's Paradise, Broome, WA, Australia.

Better than sliced bread
Purchased the 48” cut Hustler Fas Trak a few weeks back. Now I have only used this mower on “lawns”, mine are flat and kept well mown. If I was only allowed one word to describe this mower it would be “Brilliant”! I have only used the tractor style ride ons previously and I thought they were good, but I didn’t know what the benchmark for good should have been. This thing goes like a rocket, cuts like a cylinder roller mower, is fun to drive, runs on the smell of an oily rag and the power is scary. In fact that is the only thing I have worr...Read more
ied about, the power. Using it as the manual says with throttle fully open and using the levers for acceleration etc. it is very possible especially in the learner driver stages (me now) to rip your head off on a low tree branch. It has a simple to operate deck height adjustment, throws the cuttings a full metre, handles 75mm of wet grass like it isn’t there and its even reasonably comfy, though at 191cm (6’3”) I do find the leg room a little squashy, but I am used to it now. I also intend to use it on much tougher tussocky grass, with the cutting height raised as the need arises and I can’t see it having any probs. there. The mower is more expensive than others around, but when you have a look at the robust, heavy duty construction and fully fabricated deck you can see the extra $’s. Only 7 hours on the clock but i am very impressed with this unit! You need to get used to a ZeroTurn mower because that’s what they do, turn on their own axis and this will cause the rear wheels to tear up your turf if not careful.Purchased in April 2021.

HUSTLER FASTRACK 48" Zero Turn Mower - Excellent.
At the early stages after buying the Hustler and very impressed. It has a 22HP Kawasaki FS651 series motor, (a very torquey V twin cylinder of 724cc). After extensive worldwide reading on mowing and landscaping forums this was one of the mowers that rarely has a negative word spoken about it. My local small engine expert also spoke volumes of the brand and he doesn't even sell them.
The robust nature of the construction is only seen on a few mowers and the whole unit speaks of good design and longevity.
Arriving home with the mower after 2...Read more

My 48" fastrak gets clogged up with grass under the deck that packs in there hard. My grass isn't thick, does it in summer and winter wet or dry. Got to scrap it out some times three times in our two acre block. Starts to were the blades down if you don't. Asked to local and got the right blades. How can I fix this problem?

Hello Ron,
Mine will accumulate grass under the deck when cutting very wet green grass, to clear it I drop revs from 95%+ of throttle to idle, leaving it in gear and reversing the mower a little, it then throws it out the side chute and also on the ground underneath.
To avoid this I don't cut after rain and always with the side discharge chute director ( ? ) held up with a bungey cord to facilitate air flow and spread the grass out over the previously cut area.
To have it happening in dry grass I can only guess you might not have near full/flat out engine throttle. I think all mowers need a clean in that area once a year or more.
I cut at least 8 acres of our land at least once a year and the major part of 1 1/2 acres round the house every fortnight or so as required.
Silly questions, blades not on upside down, have an upward bend on the ends ?
Another member with a Fastrack 48" has said this Ron-
"Put a set of Gator Blades on it..this made a huge difference in the Cut quality and build-up under deck on my mower which is a 2014 Hustler Fastrak SD 48" deck.
PVHIII replied on Apr 20, 2015"
I have never had this problem with my Fastrak 54, probably because I fitted high-lift mulching blades which really throw out the grass. Search the net. I got mine from America as they were not available for the 54 model
Since all of my mowing is rural and well clear of buildings and people, I also found it an advantage to detatch the chute and simply use common sense to avoid throwing any debris dangerously. I mow 5 acres regularly to keep the yard free of snakes and it looks park-like.

1/2" bit of plastic hose on it and empty into a container. The filter has a lip under it also which also helps to direct the residual oil and keeps things clean. The mower has been fault free.
