There is a huge difference between the 2009 model Hyundai i30 and the current series so I doubt compatibility. Also, due to overlapping run outs, it may be that we are looking at three Hyundai models here so it is not easy to answer your question unless you provide exact model details of the 2009 Hyundai to establish just which model it is. The best way to establish compatibility is to call your local Hyundai dealer and have a word with their spares department.

Hi Bob, my Ford Focus had the same problem with dim reversing lights. I had them replaced with 'High Intensity' LED globes & the difference is amazing. Also, it makes a huge difference when reversing in the dark whilst using your reversing camera. The LED globes can be bought at any large auto shop (Autopro, Supercheap Auto, etc.) & I suggest you get them replaced by a qualified auto electrician to protect your warranty. Hope this helps.

Hi from Oz (Australia) ! We have had our current model I30 for 2 years. It has been a terrific car.... Until... The steering wheel started to stick or slightly lock, especially on the Motorway, making the car, well not very safe to drive now. You have to be on the ball to drive it as it does not automatically track in centre... Like it used to do as it was a "normal car". With only 17000 km on the clock our baby is now a lemon! I see on google that others are posting the same problem....what worries though, is their respected answers which state " the dealers are saying this is fine!" So far my local dealer has told me that they replaced the rack, however now booked in again as there was little change. I note they put 40psi in both front tyres....8 psi above what is recommended...hmmm. Has anyone had this problem and had it fixed under warranty??? Cheers Daron

joy671

mmm.. haven't had this problem and hopefully wont but I can only suggest that you take I to a reputable steering and suspension company, offer to pay for a proper evaluation and give the report to Hyundai... it may be something simple like a wheel alignment needs doing professionally but either way make sure it is looked at by an independent. I run 34psi and it is comfortable (suggested by my suspension expert).

steve
steve

Hi Daron, the power steering in the I30 & Elantra
models is electric & not hydraulic. It appears that it's a problem with the servo unit & a solenoid, limiting the amount of assistance. It won't stop completely, but it needs to be fixed & the warranty should cover it, as the cars still quite new. Whack it into a Hyundai dealer asap.

Isaac Vivienne
Isaac Vivienne

Hi Daron, not sure on the steering issue, but 38 - 40psi (especially on a Motorway) is highly advisable - especially if you have to brake suddenly. The only reason they recommend 32psi is that you get a softer, more comfortable ride. However, your tyres will wear out sooner, fuel economy will increase as well as the emergency braking distance.

Not much available for general download. Hyundai dealers do it off the main HQ website as it contains all of the info for ECU Nav Mapping, Android Auto software for current models etc. Will possibly need a dealer to do it for you, as there is a chance of rendering the head unit unusable & if it's an ECU issue, the car undriveable.

I'm surprised your boyfriend doesn't fit. A guy in my basketball team drives an i30CW (2010) no problem and he's 6'7". At 6'6" it's unlikely your boyfriend will find any small car that is particularly spacious, but he should still find most to be satisfactory to drive most if you spend time making sure the seat and steering wheel are adjusted to their fullest extent. The i30 is as big inside as most cars in that category, although I have found the first generation (FD, 2007-2011) to feel more roomy and open than the current (GD) model. Also the CW (wagon) version feels larger inside, even though front seat room is the same as the hatch. Other regular sized cars driven by very tall (6'5"+) people I know include Kia Optima, Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia, Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon, Ford Focus, Mitsubishi 380 (not longer sold new), Honda Civic, VW Beetle, Mini Cooper (yes, really!)

At the moment only Apple Carplay, is available on selected, i30, Santa Fe & Tucson here. Android auto is due on those vehicles within the next month or 2 via a dealer only update. So Apple based phones will mirror the phones screen on the vehicles multi media system, but Android won't until the software update is downloaded. You can still get voice directions for navigation via the vehicles Bluetooth system using your Android phone. But no mapping will be shown on the cars screen for Android phones just yet.

Sounds like the battery in the car could be flat. This usually always will prevent the central locking from activating, but it shouldn't affect the front door on the drivers side as you should be able to open that with the key only. If you can't, then it could end up being a tow to a Hyundai dealer.

Just check the latch on the tailgate. If it's bent by 1-1.5 mm it will close but won't lock properly. Might just need a pair of multi grips to pull it into a centred position.

Check fuses or relays. Could just mean a check to reset fault codes on the ECU. That only takes 15 mins or so at a dealer. Hopefully they won't charge you for it.

Cant help you as going through the same thing. Have had fuel filter replaced and drove out and it did it again, it is so dangerous as if you go to turn right you have no power to cross on coming traffic.
You have to use at least 95 petrol and keep receipts for a month after you put petrol in in case you get dirty fuel.
Hope your issue gets sorted out.

I have a 2010 Diesel CW SLX from new with 220,000km...the longer it goes, the better it gets. Overall a very good car & I am well pleased with it. There were a couple of niggly problems at the start...such as the one you mention with the key. After several unsucessful attempts by the dealer, I eventually figured it out myself...the lock barrel in the steering column was sticking. The dealer replaced it and all good since. Also after about 4 years I had the rubber bubble wear through on the key I used most, this was replaced under warranty.

Hey guys my wife had just got a job as a paramedic and will be stationed 400 kms away, so she will be doin 800 plus kms plus every 10 days. We are after a safe, fuel efficient, comfortable small car. I am leaning towards the diesel active x were as my wife wants petrol. We also have 2 kids aged 4 and 7. So also wondering about room? Any feedback will be much appreciated.

2 answers
RobertB
RobertB

Well my thoughts are the petrol auto extra x was going for $21990, drive away the diesel ? Depends on price for a diesel and the price of fuel were you live, is there much difference in ulp & diesel prices. The size for the kids will be fine along with the hatch is great for putting down the rear seat you will surprised what you can fit in. Also the 15,000 k's between services compared to 10,000 on the Mazda & Corolla will add up in reduced costs. Happy shopping deal hard and contact a few dealers as some will deal, mention that they will get your servicing business. We paid $21350.00 driveway for a red extra X with mats headlight covers, bonnet protector & the first two services in the deal.

Hi i had the i 30 active for nearly two years now, boot size is great for shopping seats come down to carry biigger things, as for the kids i have one, the younger kids would be just fine but the car has no cup holders at the back, bigger children will be ok in there depending on the front seats positioned feet room could be abit tight, the front seats are very comfortable, petrol i spend around 35 for a full tank, i think if you want something with a more room i would say go with elantra.

How large and long is the rear area of the i30 wagon model with the rear seats folded down? Is it possible to sleep in the back, provided you're not too tall? I like to have a wagon that's long enough to sleep in the back for those rare occasions when at festivals, camping trips etc. These don't look as long as other wagons on the market.

Hi Karl,

Thanks for your message, I'm a 6 ft tall woman and I can guarantee to you that it would be an extremely uncomfortable sleep as the seats do not fold down completely flat nor would the space be big enough. Hyundai have a i40 station wagon which is very similar to the i30 and would be a better fit for an impromptu camping situation.

I hope this is helpful.

Elissa

RobertB
RobertB

Hi Karl, sorry only had experience with hatch i30, my suggestion would be to visit a dealer and try one out for fit, l would suggest Elissa is correct.
Have a good look what's in the market Hyundai i40 wagon, i35, but maybe something bigger, like a falcon or commodore station wagon, there a huge range of vehicles out there, but think about what is its main purpose is for, and then what else you won't it to do, camping sleep in etc, good shopping, remember have a look at all costs, servicing, length of warranty etc.

Karl S
Karl S

Hi Robert and Elissa,
Thanks for the reply and info. Unfortunately the i40 wagon is a bit too expensive for what it is and for what I need.
I am now looking at a Subaru Outback or Forester, as well as considering a Falcon/Commodore wagon with LPG. Would prefer something that is reasonably small and fuel efficient, which was why I started looking at the small wagon market like the i30, Lancer and Corolla wagon models. However they all seem slightly too short to be suitable. We won't be camping out in it often, but it's definitely handy on those rare occasions when we do. Currently we have a Delica van which is great, but I want to downsize to something more economical and suitable for city driving.
