Sounds a bit like a gear box issue that we had. Loss of reversing power when at an angle, like when coming out of the driveway. Took it Hyundai and they fixed it on warranty

So we've had our I30 since Oct 2011 and it has been kept in new condition from the start but the only thing thats wrong it that if we're driving on the highway and get off and come to a stop the car stop. Why is that? The mechanics don't know what could be causing it as they've said that all the sensors are fine. Can anyone help? Because we just had a service yesterday and everything is good but this problem is still happening... Very confused and annoyed since we brought this car brand new

Can you describe the sound? The word unusual doesnt say much...

Hi, thanks for the reply. It starts when i turn the key but it revs ups and cuts out repeatedly like a 'wop wop wop' sound. It sounds like it's struggling and about to stall. It might be air or fuel deprived. When this happens I turn it off after about 5 seconds. When I start it up again it usually starts ok.

Not sure though it seems like if the light comes on you should try to get to the nearest fuel service station

Andy

Depends on where you're driving..how long is a piece of string... I would avoid going that low in a diesel, you will just pick up crap from the bottom of the tank which will foul up your filters quicker and wear out your fuel pump, thereby negatively affecting your fuel economy anyway.

I'm not really sure. I am assuming they have different features available in different models. Phone the 1800 icare number and ask and also register to see if you have any warranty left.

If your car is still under warranty obviously Hyundai would be the place to go. If out of warranty quotes from your local auto specialists would apply with multiple quotes if the repairs look to be expensive.

Thank for your feedback. Bought vehicle recently second hand market without service history. first owner bought from john Hughes, Definitely warranty would be expired by now. I feel something wrong like jump the vehicle, when slow down the vehicle to stop. my Manichean checked break pad and drum all fine. so I am guessing to do with transmission. I want to someone to test drive and to confirm any problem with car or not. who does this job without fee? Regards

My Hyundai 2005 Sante Fe was just written off (not my fault) so was thinking of getting an I30 I can only afford 2009-2010 model. I had no problems at all with the sante fe in 10years and was hoping that would be true of most hyundais. I would love info, feedback any help or advice I can get? Thanks. Jo

Hi Jo. Sorry but I have no knowledge of the i30 in the 2009/2010 era. Can only assume they came with the 5 year warranty at that time so if you could find one with some of the warranty remaining that would be a big advantage for you and have a qualified mechanic give it a complete check before the warranty expired. I have read recently where Hyundai only provide a 3 year warranty on the centre stack (clock/radio/screen/satnav etc) but that info is second hand to me, perhaps talk to a dealership if you see a car with that sort of problem before making a purchase. As I have said in my review no problems have surfaced since my satnav was replaced at about 6 months old and the car has been serviced by Hyundai as per the warranty and now has 38,000 klm on it. Good hunting.

Thank you! Appreciate any help!! Lol, definitely plan on mechanical check etc, found a 2009 model in my price range with only 75,000 kms on it for $10K which seems to be pretty good price. See how we go

I recommend the diesel. I have an 09 diesel cw and service it myself for just over $100 per year basic service (fully synthetic helix extra ultra 5w-30 oil both air and oil filter) and keep an eye on coolant level. Been a good car at only 5 years old and hope to keep ot that way with regular services and monitoring.

I bought this car brand new 2014 and have had it for just over a week now, its great I love it, and the new leather smell :), has such a smooth transmission with 6 speed auto, plenty of space and storage and the back seats fold down. I'm really happy I'm sure you will be too. The only thing Ive noticed so far is that if my shopping on the passenger seat in the front is too heavy the sensors think its a person and the seat belt sign will start dinging. Hahha

You could try taking the car to a hyandai Australia workshop or a transmission specialist workshop or if them 2 options fail it could be something with the electrics in that case a auto electrician shop might be able to help you though the way you described the problem it's most likely the gearbox

Ronl

Happened to me in traffic. Sounds like the gear lock is on. Just in front of the gear stick there is an indentation for a screw driver. Lift up the lid and push the screw driver. It should unlock the gears.

Engine noise is not intrusive in either of my i30's probably due to the soundproofing, however as they age, both motors are becoming noisier at start up. My local dealer advises that this is quite normal but these motors have only done 84,000Klms and 59,000klms respectively and they both sound a bit rattely to me. Both are starting to use oil and I would not have expected this so early in their lives. .

Our i30 Tourer is only 6 months old and no problems with radio reception so far. There is one static area for 4 seconds on one street at the bottom of a hill in our suburb which effected our old Camry as well. Otherwise there is nothing wrong at all.

Wondering about Hyundai i30 service and repair costs after warranty period has expired. How do they compare to costs of maintaining a Corolla (which we have found very reasonable). Do they have a timing belt? If so, when does it need to be replaced?
Many thanks!

5 answers
margland
margland

Hi Chris. Sorry cant help you on that one as our car is only 5 months old. We intend to use our local garage mechanic as often as we can as he gives us good service, quite capable and reasonably priced. As to a timing belt, I dont know. I should think so as I thought most cars did. Corolla is a good car and only reason we discounted them was this new constant variable transmission instead of a normal 4 or 6 speed gear car. Early days for this new technology for us oldies.

Noddy of Sydney
Noddy of Sydney

Our 2000 Corolla had a timing belt which needed to be changed at 150,000 km. Not 100% sure, but I suspect the i30 will have a similar requirement. I took out the 8 year extended warranty on my 2013 i30 premium so services are capped at $219, which I think is reasonable.
Same as margland - I stayed away from the CVT transmission on the new Corolla and Nissan Pulsar Ti - I didn't like it. The six speed transmission on the i30 is very smooth. If you are considering buying a car with a CVT transmission, make sure you test drive it up and down hills - you may not like how it behaves! Very happy with my new i30.

Honesty
Honesty

Hi Chris, I have capped price servicing for 3 years, 1st service (1500kms) free labour, then I think it's $219 after that and the service is only once a year or 15000kms which I think is very reasonable especially as I get roadside assist and sat nav updates.. I usually only keep a car for 3-4 years or around 60000kms so i'm not overly concerned about a timing belt. Before my i30 I'd been driving Astras for the past 10+ years and they change timing belt at 60000kms and the service was expensive. Just over 2 weeks now since taking delivery of my i30, I love driving it more every day.

I would really like someone to explain how to use the SUNA navigation system in that mine constantly tells me that there is a crash in 2 different but same locations, when there isn't. I have contacted SUNA who claim that they have no record of accidents at those locations. Is there any way to delete the warning / advice?

1 answer
Cooranite
Cooranite

Hi John. Sorry but I cannot help. I have only used SUNA a couple of times myself and know very little about it although it did appear to work at the time. I have had to have my SatNav system replaced under warranty, took about a week to get a new one and works fine now. From what I've heard a number of owners have experienced similar problems so be aware this can happen. At least it proves the warranty works perfectly.

You have to wait until the SatNav "voice" speaks. When it does, adjust the volume control. Makes sense!
