Don’t waste your money
i have had this machine for a couple of years and I wish I had never wasted my money buying it. The machine is gutless and struggles to go through anything thick. I mainly use the machine for free motion quilting and thread painting and the tension is always wrong even shortly after it has been serviced. My basic 25 year old Janome is so much better, sews through anything and nowhere near as temperamental. The only advantages the 9400 has is the longer arm, needle down and thread cutting which are good but not Janome specific. Not sure if I just got a dud or they are all bad.
Purchased in August 2021 for A$3,000.00.

Never ceases to amaze me at the new features included in each new model
The Janome 9400 QCP is an amazing machine and while Janome seems to advertise it more as a quilter's machine I rarely do quilting these days, instead I prefer to make garments...so in actual fact it's an all-rounder.
The 9400 has all of the features found in the 8900SE and I won't repeat those again, see my other review here </p/janome-8900qcp.html> but as can be expected with a newer model it has even more features that I'm sure any dedicated sewist will really appreciate and enjoy using. ace to the right of the needle is fabulous whether you are sewing garments or quilts. The 9400 had just received an upgrade which was included with the machine and installed before using the machine, the upgrade allows use of Ruler Feet (for quilting etc) and now the machine is sold as the 9450 with the upgrade already installed. Just thought I'd mention this in case someone is wondering, all the new model numbers can be a little confusing if you don't keep abreast of them all. The dealer where I bought my 9400 also included 10 x additional feet, extra bobbins and unpicker etc, so having all of those feet means I won't need to buy extras, although a year or so ago I bought an Acufeed Stitch-in-the-Ditch foot, but it didn't break the bank anyway. Some manufacturers don't include as many feet as Janome, so this is something to keep in mind if/when buying a new machine. Also included with the 9400 is a remote thread cutter pedal, this was an additional purchase with the 8900SE. The attachment plate allows this pedal to attach to either left or right side of the large foot pedal so you have options there and if you don't wish to use it, then it's just a matter of unplugging the 2.5mm plug on the side of the machine.Similar opinion?
