Great little car
I recently purchased the Kia Cerato. IT is a great little car. It drives very smoothly and has all the little extras that make it a great drive like GPS, bluetooth audio, rear parking camera.
Pros:
7 year warranty with fixed price servicing
Very smooth to drive
Cons
Dashboard takes time to boot up
GPS quite slow to boot up

I just bought a new kia cerato, MY17, automatic, hatchback.
I bought the kia cerato s(av), it is sluggish, the salesman quite stupidly said it is because it is new, what a lot of rubbish, I previously had a 2005 and 2011 ceratos, both immensely superior, smooth cars, plenty of power to move the vehicle. and now the damned stereo system is playing up, the blue tooth drops off and will not work, the stereo stopped working and worked again, and it switched itself off and back on, the interior light does not have an off position, is either on or on, the air vents only go so far, much reduced side to side mo...Read more
vement, and some other issues, instead of making it better the koreans made it worse, what is wrong with you and to make matters worse the fuel consumption is pathetic, my 2011 cerato would get me 520 kms per tank with some left in reserve this new one barely 450 with the empty light on. Pathetic crap. September 15th 2018 Update: 2016 kia cerato hatchback automatic, crap car and worse warranty. I bought this new 2016 kia cerato hatchback, automatic thinking I should have no problems, 7 year warranty, instantly the damn sound system started to turned itself off or losing the sound, the gear box gave me problems, I took it back, they replaced the sound system and told me they are aware of the gear box problems, ceratos and sportages have that problem and kia is working on a fix. I drove away, the sound system turned itself off again, I went back to kia blacktown, nsw australia, they replaced it again, and again it turned itself off. I took it to kia kinsgwood with the problem, the lady there said they would replace it, but after said it is a well known problem and kia is working on a fix, it has been two years and no fix. the gear box is a problem, when you need a stronger gear it does not work, going uphills loses power, it is dangerous, but kia is working on a fix, I guess they are waiting for people to die. I called kia blacktown nsw australia, spoke to the mechanic I have spoken to many times, a nice guy, [name removed], I said enough is enough, two years waiting for that fix, I want the sound system replaced and the gear box replaced, he said to replace the gear box I need to speak to the manager, rubbish, warranty must cover that and they know there is a well known problem which kia blames on software, I do not think so it is the gear box which is a new one, 6 gears and they screwed it up. also the front mats keep on popping out of place, disgusting, disgraceful, crap, crap, crap.Similar opinion? Kia Cerato S Premium - very happy
Had the car since new in Dec 2015, now done 38000km and am still very happy with it. Just the one issue - that I also see in some other reviews. The Media/GPS/DVD head unit started playing up - DVD would continue to eject even when no DVD present and screens would randomly jump around. Kia service team got the error codes out of it and replaced it with a newer Carplay head unit, which has so far been great. Overall very happy with the Kia and very pleased about value for money...7 year warranty, bargin.

Fixed at last
An almost 3 month wait to get a simple fault fixed. We found out that after three months a minor fault can be declared a major fault and we can claim a full purchase price refund under Australia consumer law (federal law ). Handy to know when negotiating with an intransigent manufacturer who is claiming supplier problems is the reason for not repairing your car.The satnav rear camera and seat belt warning stopped working in our 2016 ( purchase date) plated 2015) We took it in to be looked at Feb. Finally in April the screen and radio was replaced but not before contacting business and consumer affairs.

I just love this car
I love this car, it is perfect for someone like me who is retired and needs a reliable vehicle. It is fuel efficient, quiet and easy to drive. There is plenty of leg room, both front and rear seats. The air conditioning is good. The boot is very easy to load and unload shopping, in other words it is perfect.

a lot of car for the money
This car represents outstanding value for money. Comes with front & rear parking sensors. I also got rear camera.
Has all the essentials and comes with SEVEN years warranty & 12 mnth service intervals. Easy to drive and quite comfy. Auto gearbox works well although gear changes happen a bit late and so fuel economy is only fair. maybe not the outstanding car in its class but you wont get better value.

Great car but niggling little issues occuring that shouldn't happen.
Purchased almost 4 months ago MY17 Cerato Hatch AV model. Great little car with a powerful 2 litre motor and 6l/100km economy. I've already done almost 10,000km. and apart from niggling small issues all related to the head unit I'm very happy with it.
Current issues are FM radio reception is next to useless. Last car I had I could listen to Gold FM everywhere I drove, lucky to get any reception within 25km from station now.
Radio every now and again switches itself off and then a few seconds later reboots.
Every now and again Bluetooth drops out and won't reconnect until I restart car.
Phone book disappears and it loses all contacts, I either have to force it to scan again or restart car.

Excellent value for the price
It took a little getting used to as my previous car was a 4 cylinder Fairmont but now I love it. We compared all the usual small car contenders in this price range at the base model level and decided to buy a car with a few years on it and a lot of extras. So we found the Kia with 30,000 km and a little cheaper than the cost of an entry level new model. Still has 5 years warranty left.
Everything works beautifully. It's a dream to drive, on the freeway and around town. With all round sensors and a rear camera, parking is so easy and it tak...Read more
es little space. On the downside I find the air conditioning fan is too noisy, although it can be turned down, and there is a little too much road noise. This may be because it has skinny tyres which are not a feature I care about. It's got a decent boot for a small car but I haven't transported people in the rear seat so I haven't tested that. I love all it's features, although I'm still trying to work some of them out. On a hot day, the cooled seats are good. The colour is a lovely mid gray, just like every second small car, so I still have trouble picking mine out in the carpark :).Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Enjoy driving it everyday.
The Cerato hatchback has been a terrific car. I bought the higher powered GDI engine and it has done everything from long interstate hauls to the daily suburban grind with ease. In fact there would barely be a day that I've not found pleasure in driving it. Plus it has hauled around a lot of stuff at times. The dealer servicing (Dandenong) has been good and given me the opportunity to drive a range of Kia's as loan cars. All have been good but I'm hoping Kia will release a 1.6 turbo Cerato in time for me to upgrade by the end of this year or early next year.

Early days but so happy
Have had my brand new 2016 Cerato S for about two weeks so it's very early days but I'm so happy with my purchase. Got it for under $20k (no extras) and I tried out the Hyundai Accent and Nissan Pulsar too but the Kia's drive felt better. Also preferred the look of the car both outside and in. The car is great to drive, very smooth though I'm no driving expert or enthusiast. While I was admittedly a bit hesitant going for a Kia (never had one and the brand has previously had that "cheap" quality tag), they've come a long way in recent years (ju...Read more
st read car reviews) and coupled with their unbeatable warranty, it offered such great value. Only minor negative would be that I'm not seeing the 7.1L/100km fuel economy advertised - getting about 11L - but this may improve as the car's only done about 200km so far. I had a Mazda 2 (2006 model) prior and I must say the Kia holds up very well. Cannot be happier with my new car!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great value for money
Bought an ex-demo si hatch version of this car to replace my wife's 2010 Rio. Needed something with a bit more space & better for highway trips away. Was looking at a new base model but ended up purchasing this one with 6,000km on it but more bells & whistles for same price. 2l engine is a nice surprise after the Rio's pokey little 1.3l albeit a little noisy when cold. Electric steering is a bit strange to get used to at first but other than that drives very smoothly & actually handles pretty well for what it is. Have noticed what sounds like a...Read more
wheel bearing or driveshaft sound from RH front when car is first driven from cold with the window down. Mentioned it at dealership & was assured it would be replaced at next service if still evident then. Very comfortable seats with leather accent & GPS works well after you work it out. Cruises nicely on the highway a leisurely 2300 rpm for 100kph, compared to the Rio's laboured 3,500rpm for same. Even accounting for the 2014 build date of the ex-demo, it still has outstanding warranty coverage of 5 years from our date of purchase, a bargain that hopefully won't be needed. All in all, very pleased with quality & function overall & hoping to get many years of trouble free motoring.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Japanese Quality with a 7 Year Wty
Wow, after driving Japanese brand cars for the past 36 years, I really didn't expect to find the same quality in a Korean car! But I was wrong, these later model Kia's are right at the top of the affordable car chain when it comes to quality.
Why a Kia instead of another Japanese or other Korean Brand? To be quite honest what attracted me to Kia was Kia's 7 year Factory Warranty. I test drove the latest models from most manufacturers, and the Kia Cerato held up nicely to the best of them. It was zippy, comfortable, and felt solid and well bui...Read more

Early YD cars were badly painted and put together.
Performance and handling were very good. Noisy 2.0 litre engine especially on cold start up.
The Interior was excellent, finish was above average in this class. Plenty of room.
I had a car that had a front end noise that could not be fixed to my satisfaction. The paintwork was below average and the rear bumper from new wasn't fitted correctly. It should not have left the factory in Korea with such a glaring fault. A symptom of mass produced cars from Korea. They still are not at Japanese standards.

Worth every cent, leaves more expensive cars in the shade.
The ergonomics of this car are fantastic, everything falls to hand nicely. The controls are user friendly and intuitive in operation, even the satnav is good. There are few intrusive alarms or attempts by the car to take control. I have owned cars over three times the price of the Cerato and driven cars many times more expensive but would not go back to any of them in preference to this car. Once you add the warranty to the fact that this is a well priced, well designed car that drives well there simply is no comparable product.
Summary: If you are buying a new car in this class just buy a Cerato. Hope this helps.

Nice Car.
Bought it brand new, no problems. Easy to drive and park. Plenty of power. Manual gearbox ratios are a bit weird. First gear is very low speed. Good cheap ride. We got the tinted windows and black leather seats as extras, they did a really neat job. I hope the good vibe lasts.

Easy car to live with and drive.
+ Comfortable, easy car to live with and drive, lots of room inside, smooth gear changes, very nice overall. Very easy to connect phone to the vehicle. 7 year warranty and caped price servicing. Easy to read dash layout. Rear seats fold flat. Value for money. 1.8 litre engine does the job. My fuel economy is around 6.9-7.1, which isn't too bad.
− Reflection of dash in windscreen, I did purchase a dash mat, which has helped solve this. My steering wheel when driving straight isn't straight it is slightly to the right not a huge issue, told fall...Read more

SatNav and Wheels
SatNav, third unit in 2 years, latest version won't hold phone numbers, When you turn the ignition off and remove the phone from the car, you need to download all numbers again, every time.
Wheels/tyres, Like driving on wooden wheels without any tyres and the road noise is horrific. Highway driving - no point trying to listen to the radio. I've changed tyre brand too.

Surprisingly BRILLIANT, Very Happy
Purchased new 10 months ago, now has 21,000 on the clock.
I had never had a Kia before, and when looking for a small car, I researched and test drove Madza 3, Holden Cruze, VW Golf, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai I30 and Gulietta.
Settled on a new YD Cerato S Premium 1.8L Hatch 2014, and I cannot believe how good it is. The hi specs - sat nav, cruise control, reverse sensors, front sensors, bluetooth, reversing camera, comfy interior, alloys, 8 years warranty (5+3), capped price servicing, free roadside assist 5 years... all for 22K. At that time, ...Read more

and in 10mins they replaced it free of charge with the new model sat nav module while I waited. Once again we are still very pleasantly surprised with the quality and performance of the vehicle. My work colleague who bought a Toyota has been back 3 times in the same period with mechanical issues/recalls so it appears, from our experience anyway, the Korean manufacturers have refined their vehicles to at least an equal reliability as other manufacturers and a higher spec and significantly more affordable. worked perfectly, and the car felt really solid and comfortable. There was hardly any road noise from the tyres, and the engine always felt like it had power to spare in hilly areas. This review may sound like a Kia commercial, but I genuinely feel that the Cerato is much underrated in Australia, it really is up there with the Mazda's and Toyota's for quality, and value for money. Still very happy with my purchase, and I will do another Update when the Car is 12 months old.
