Ongoing limp mode problems
2012 model Kia Sorento, purchased as an ex demo model from a Kia yard, and have been experiencing "limp mode" problems over the last 3 years, with them getting more and more frequent. Kia, nobody can find a solution. But they will charge you $150 each time to run a diagnostic. Maybe it's this??? $200 thank you. Nope, wasn't that. Then lets replace this???? $500. Nope, not that either.... Google "Kia Sorento Limp Mode"and there are forums and forums, pages and pages, of this issue. Yet NO SOLUTIONS. I think this needs leaking to the news o...Read more
r something. It appears to have been a problem dating back as far as 2006 models, yet here we are 2022 and still no solution. It is dangerous. Imagine picking up your kids from school, pulling into a round-about when there is a gap, only to have your car suddenly limp across. Brown pants time I can tell you.....Purchased in January 2021 at Kia Dealers.

Front diff and casing. Towing. Window wiper water motor
My Kia Sorento has been fantastic to us. We have taken it out to all parts of Victoria and use the all-wheel-drive many times on some rocky ground.
Recently a couple of noises were coming from underneath and then my wife brings it home and it is rattling like crazy.
We use the Kia roadside assistance and they took it straight to the Berwick dealership no charge.
The mechanics identified that we had sheared the spline in the casing of the front diff. We were quoted $5,500 for the fix. Our car came out of warranty last July 9 months ago. Becau...Read more
se we were repeat customers to Berwick Kia and always kept up our servicing on time and used genuine Kia parts they put through a good honour form to Kia HQ to cover the costs and we were successful. We were not out of pocket for anything. Problem was that it was a two week wait for the parts to come through to fix Sorrento and no courtesy cars where available. We are two car family so we struggled but we managed to make it work thanks to a few good friends. After researching on not only this review page but also discussing it with the service team I uncovered that this has been a problem with the Kia sorrento's and this is not a one off.Purchased in July 2021.

Great car for the family
Bought this car as we now have 3 kids, fits all the babyseats in and has all the space needed. Great car for the price, has a lot of pick up for an SUV and all the features we need. Hasn't missed a beat since we got it. Highly recommend

Total lemon and bad customer service
I have a 2013 Kia Sorento sli, it was only 5 months out of warranty, always serviced and never taken off road and the diff and drive shaft completely broke on me. I have been quoted $9,500 by 2 mechanics to fix it. I called Kia and they were very short with me and basically said not their problem. I will never buy Kia again.

2013 Kia Sorento SLI 2.2 diesel
Recently purchased Kia Sorento 2.2L SLI. Very good fuel economy using around 7.4-8.0l per 100km!
Has good power for a diesel 145kw @ 3800rpm and 436nm @ 1800-2500rpm making it a good balance of power & torque. long distance driving is comfortable and cabin noise is low with just a little bit of wind noise which i presume is coming from the large side mirrors.Foot operated hand brake is not that good in my opinion, but all the other features are good.'Auto Expert John Cadogan" rates the Sorento highly. Will report back if i have any issues.
Have recently turned over 100,000km, {April 2022} no issues what so ever. Very happy with the Sorento!
Purchased in July 2021.

LOVED the Sorento ! esp for the warranty period ! BUT after warranty look out !!!
Great car, WAS an awesome all rounder, we have the diesel, 7 seater, leather seats, awesome we thought !
although IF i had the money, i would only have this car during the warranty period, which is longer now, but ours only had 5 yrs, and several things seems to fall apart at the end of the warranty period ! more than i will mesion below...
UPDATE NIGHTMARE ! really consider selling by warranty end OR dont buy one !!!
we have had No end of troubles and expenses since the car turned five ! now at 7 yrs old, another issue which they have had...Read more

2012 V6 Sli ....what a pleasure....hooked on Kia
Powerful V6 ...that is smooth and easy to drive and actually pretty good on fuel consumption.
Interior not as prestige as the latest model but still very nice...Plenty of room and very practical with 7 seat standard.
I have rung up 75,000 kms in 3 yrs and the car still feels and drives like new...amazing!
I would definitely recommend to family's who need reliable safe motoring at fantastic pricing.
The car has all the bells and whistles...leather,gps, Bluetooth etc...etc... bargain buying and still offers warranty inside of the 5 yr period.

Love it every day
We purchased a 2014 SLI Sat Nav brand new twelve months and 18000Km ago. The car is used for everything from my wife's shopping and school runs, to our weekends away with the kids and dogs camping in State Forests. It has never missed a beat and doesn't even realise it has a full trailer on the back.
Power to boot (I'm a V8 owner to, so I know what power is), low turbo lag and it barely uses fuel compared to other SUV's I have driven. Continuous around town short runs it sits on around 8.5 / 100 but I have a lead foot, towing the trainer loa...Read more
ded on the Hume it will dip into the 7's. From Mt Vic to Penrith down the mountain it only used 3Lts /100 LOL. The car is super comfy on long drives and has plenty of room, even with all 7 seats up and the in-laws on board. As for options, we looked at every conceivable SUV on the market before we bought and the Sorrento wins hands down as best bang for buck. Could not be happier at this stage. As long as Kia keep this up, we will replace it with another one without question in 4 years.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Car
Great car, nice to drive, excellent economy, and surprisingly good off road! Seven seater is a true seven seater and not just for short trips. Good roll on power for overtaking, generally not much we don't like! Some better headlights would be good, and as the car ages, maybe we will add the king springs as we have heard good reviews about the upgrade.

Warning
I own a Kia Sorento 2010 SLi which has just completed 90ks. Excellent vehicle on most fronts but has had its share of issues. Warranty claims include, sump pan oil leak at 30ks, heat sensor in transmission failure at 60ks, followed by pan oil leak for 30ks & finally fixed after two years of complaint. Oil leak in tappet cover and timing gear cover. Passenger seat belt buckle failure. Hole in drivers seat back material. Cargo blind failure. The dealership has been very good in agreeing to correct the issues when raised by me. Warranty not a prob...Read more
lem. However despite appropriate dealer servicing none of the oil leaks were detected by the service technicians and only after considerable desk thumping by me were the leaks actually fixed. The issue is that technicians do not remove the engine under body plate when servicing and therefor cannot see oil leaks until they are bad enough to drip from the cover onto your floor. In my cases the technicians were initially simply wiping down the oil leaks. My advice is that Kia will warrant failures but check on the service technicians yourself.Similar opinion? Simply the Best
Purchased the vehicle new in February 2014.I have driven the vehicle to work (a round trip of 100klm) 6 days a week and now have 42,600klms up.In that time I have found the fuel consumption to be as good and sometimes better than my wife's small sedan and can fit more people. There have been no issues whatsoever and the ride is fantastic. In the first year I saved just over $5,000 in fuel costs alone.I thought the diesel I had was good.....but this one brilliant.

An excellent SUV...Smooth n Silent...Most Economical!!
Best in its class... 7-Seater... Most fuel efficient in its class... Amazing Features... Love the smooth drive and it's the most affordable of all SUVs that can seat 7!!! Great suspension, better than Kluger and more responsive than both Toyota Kluger & Mazda CX-9. Am very happy. Have owned a Honda Odyssey previously and they are a nice car too, and I rate them the best people mover... but Sorento SLi is a great 7-seater SUV package. I bought a 2WD but the AWD is the slickest of them all. So if you think Korean cars are not up to the mark on th...Read more
at range, well think again coz when I test drove all in the family more than once, the choice was very clear. And I saved myself a good solid $10,000 almost!! And didIi mention the 8-year warranty which includes 5-yrs manufacturer and then another 3 years if I service with the dealer at capped price service!! Excellent use of space, Great interior, Nice steering feel, suspension, silent engine, fuel economy, and warranty!! The Kumho tyres could be bettered...i will get them replaced with softer Bridgestones; And audio speakers could be better too...decent but not the best...am thinking of putting in Pioneers all over.Similar opinion? Kia nearly very good
SLi MY11 2.2crdi have had the Sorento just over 12 months and have completed just over 33,000klms. Have towed a Lv535 Geist caravan for approx 28,000klm of total. Have had no mechanical problems and have not had any oil consumption issues at all, have had a problem with poor reception from the car radio. Had the vehicle into various dealers to try and rectify what they all acknowledge is a problem. Dealer response has been reasonable to appalling bad, problem still ongoing after 7months. After finally getting connected to customer service and s...Read more
poken to operators that have little or no knowledge of the product have attempted to contact Kia Australia on various occasions by email and then by registered letter received no response at all, customer service I don't think so! Travelled interstate and tried to book into different Kia service centers listed on the Kia website to be told that they "weren't actually official Kia dealers and couldn't honor warranty issues at that time" this was after we had travelled many miles off our planned itinerary, beware Kia owners, dealers and response is thin on the ground west of Adelaide. Like it alot at first great engine and economy, good seats, brakes and steering Bad warranty service have no faith that if a major issue occurs it will be resolved, very thin paint, harsh ride on anything other than good roads2 comments

The Best 7 seater SUV we tested by far
We had a Subaru Forester and loved it but it was time upsize with a 5 year old and another bubs on the way we decided a 7 seater would be functional as we may want friends and family to tag along on some trips.
We checked out the usual suspects and tried to be as objective as possible.

Great car for touring
Have just done 5,000km through Victoria and Tasmania. Impressed by the performance, handling, comfort and good fuel economy (up to 40 mpg). SLi version has everything we wanted. Don't use the last row of seats but as they fold flat it gives plenty of luggage space. On the freeway at 110 km/h it gives around 40 mpg (7 litres/100km) and auto hardly changes down - tons of torque. Much better than the 4 speed auto Forester X we had.

honestly say the vehicle has performed exceptionally. It is comfortable, well appointed with really good performance and fuel economy. Nothing has gone wrong and I can recommend it to a family and/or someone who likes to carry lots of gear. Never used the 6-7 seats but that gives me more storage area. Its going to be out of warranty shortly - don't like to trade it in but maybe now is the time seeing as a new Kia offers 7 year warranty and some extra gadgets. A new owner will be pleased to get a great car. Performance and comfort Bigger than I envisaged (Sportage might have been better for size) but wanted the 2.2 litre engineSimilar opinion? Great car, very happy with purchase
I upgraded from a 2004 Nissan Xtrail to a 2011 Kia Sorento Diesel SLI and am very happy with the Kia (had it for two weeks so far). I had to wait 5 months due to low stock but it was worth the wait is my wife and I love the car. Very comfortable, great engine and no issues with quality. Also looked at the Santa Fe but I'm not a fan of hyundai styling.
great engine, econmical diesel, comfortable
maybe a bit on the expensive side
