Longest life
I do 2 loads a week but it’s coming on to 18 years old and I’m still happy with it.
I’ve had the repair man out once about 6 yrs ago and it cost $100 to repair but I’m not grumbling.
It’s quiet, quick and still efficient. I wish all of my appliances had been this successful.

Super Reliable Workhorse
Upon downsizing 10 years ago we gifted our 25 yo SpeedQueen to our son and bought the 5.5kg LG toploader and by the way things are going it too will be with us a long time.
The LG WF-T556 is very quiet and efficient and still looks as good as the day we bought it. Clothes come out clean and reasonably dry (we live in QLD so line drying is no problem) and we only ever use it on the normal setting with cold water. We have tried front loaders at holiday houses and our top loader beats them on speed and low noise every time. And with a top loader there is no bending and a forgotten item can be thrown in after the cycle starts.
We clean the filter after every wash and thats the only attention it gets, and its used every three days.

Perfect washing machine
Hi the washing machine is excellent,it didn't cost as much as other brands, we thought was going to work for a few years, nearly 11 years on and still going just as strong,I love it and we got the display model from the good guys, even worse we thought at first but we got the best,I use washing liquid then washing powder cause powder takes longer to dissolve,it's much quitter then My old washing machine and the child lock is the best feature,I'm very happy with My LG washing machine,I'm a happy customer indeed!!!

Great washing machine - Compact size that handles a big load
I love this washing machine because of its compact size yet it takes a big 6.5kg load. Its very sturdy with multiple water levels and cycles to handle any type of wash. It's quiet too and has 2 lint filters though they don't seem to catch too much lint. Unlike other similar type of washers the clothes don't get too twisted up or stretched. Not had any problems with it so no complaints from me. No longer sold new but if you come across a cheap used one i would grab it.

Reliable workhorse 10 years on...
We bought this on sale at Harvey Norman (NZ) to fit a tight space. It was cheap. I thought even if it lasts 2 years it's worth it. 10 years later it's still going strong! Never needed professional attention. It has been looked after - only powder detergents, no fabric softener other than white vinegar and a 'clean' once a year (cup of white vinegar in an empty hot wash). I also leave the door open for a while after every wash to let it air (important in NZ winter).
You can't use too much powder as it will leave powder marks on dark clothes ...Read more
- easy to remedy - just add the 'extra rinse', use only the recommended amount, or start the wash and add the powder before the clothes so it's already dissolved! This 'problem' (it isn't one for me) is due to the powders not dissolving properly on a cold wash. I love the turn it on>press go>walk away aspect of it as it auto selects the amount of water. If I think it's going to need it I up the water by one level. (Sheets and towels). The delicate wool wash is very good - washed down jackets and sleeping bags with that. The spin is only 900rpm so fairly quiet with no vibration, but surprisingly efficient! Clothes are damp but not heavy when they come out. Shirt sleeves and my daughter's tights do get tangled but not so it's annoying.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ok washing machine overall
We've have had this washing machine for just over two years to replace a front loader that wouldn't fit into a tight spot. Overall the washing machine is comparatively good. I run about 4 to 5 loads a week and have so far had no problems at all with the machine in regards to breakdowns. I haven't had any problems with soap residue neither and usually the clothes come out pretty clean except on occasion the arm pits of shirts may not clean as good as they should. The only thing that falls foul is the auto water level can sometimes under estimate...Read more
the water needed so I simply opt for a higher settings manually. If your after a good priced machine that does a reasonable job without all the bells and whistles this one might be for you. Though I do miss my front loader.... Cheap, Easy to use, Reliable Water level can sometimes be too lowSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Terrible
I bought a LGWF-T657 about 5 weeks ago. When I wash dark colours all the soap scum and residue appears on the clothes. White stain marks everywhere on dark clothes. Have to wash twice. I will never recommend this to anyone.
Doesn't wash clothes properly.

Excellent
Overall I am happy with this machine, it washes the clothes clean, there is no lint or soap scum & it has numerous wash cycles. I especially like the wool setting as it is very, very gentle for the delicates. No agitator allows it to take a larger wash & the clothes suprisngly don't come out tangled. It beeps when filling the bowl for the rinse cycle so you know when to put in fabric softener, which is handy for me as I find the auto dispenser too small & plastic. After buying a top of the range F&P Aquasmart which didn't work from day one & was returned, this has been a breeze.
WFT657 - Compact, no agitator, 2 lint filters
No liquid detergent dispenser, fabric softener dispenser too small

Just type into google download free user manale for the modle of the washing machine should come up if not let me know and ill try and find the link
have you managed to get a manual for the WF-T556?
So simple to use. Who needs a manual?
Just select the wash cycle required then the water level you need and away you go.
You can also select water temp.
Seriously no need for a manual.

The lint filters in the drum have become partly blocked by something which looks like black fungus. It penetrates the weave of the filter bag and is impossible to dislodge. Periodically the wash in covered with what appears to be dark brown, small, leaves, like tea. We use cleaner and this goes away. The water system has no foreign substances present in any other appliance or outlet. We would be happy to purchase replacement filters. (6231IE2011 P.P. embossed on the plastic part.) We like the machine but the problem is very worrying.
Suggestions please.

It's old dried up fabric softener. this can happen with all washing machines. Use white vinegar as your fabric softener, the smell of vinegar in your clothes will dissipate in a couple of hours.
That's right, fabric softener is the culprit. I once had an engineer tell me they do the most damage to washing machines and are best avoided. Also liquid detergents - over time they slime up the insides and cause smells and inefficiencies. To clean a gunked up machine run empty on the hottest wash with 1 cup of white vinegar. I also use white vinegar in place of fabric softener - 1 or 2 tablespoons is plenty.
The lint filters can be purchased on eBay very cheap.
But it sounds like a problem with your plumbing.
Check your hot water system is not the problem. It may be rusting inside if more than 7 years old.
If you live in an old building with cast iron pipes there is your problem!
