Comprehensive, Third Party LiabilityArrogant and unhelpful.
I was only trying to get a quote so I can decide if I should purchase my 'special vehicle'. That is, if it costs too much to insure, I won't buy it; and vice versa.
No, no help there. Very arrogant to talk to. In fact the worst insurer I have ever talked to.

A long positive history, with only the odd glitch
My wife and I have insured vehicles with Lumley over a very long period and have benefited from both very competitive rates and a flexible attitude to coverage. I'd also note that their staff are almost uniformly enthusiasts themselves and tend to be very helpful in their attitude.
I currently have both a special car and a motorcycle insured with them and their rates are unmatched in the industry. My car has been used for quite a number of track days in the past and, when I had a not at fault claim arising from road use a year or so ago I ...Read more
had the claim settled efficiently - including the exercise of my free windscreen option, at substantial cost to them. In contrast to another recent reviewer, I had no problems with renewing my policy - despite the fact that my car obviously "looks" like it is a regular trackday vehicle & the fact their assessor would have seen that when attending the repairer's premises. I did have a problem with a "partly at fault" claim on my daily driver, quite some years ago. This claim - a total loss - was dealt with very efficiently, but was followed up with a refusal to cover the replacement vehicle. At the time, I was told that this was due to a change in their policy, which meant that they were no longer covering daily drivers. I resolved this issue by writing to the MD, who sent me a letter of apology, referring to my long history as a customer of the company and invited me to seek cover for whatever vehicle I wished. I'd suggest that the lesson here is that, even in the best run of companies, one can have negative experiences due to the actions of individuals that are not sanctioned by the company as a whole. In such cases, it's important to make sure that you challenge the decisions given. Overall, I would recommend Lumley without hesitation.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Avoid for your special car....
Word of warning....if you use your road registered car on track, their underwriting guidelines state that they are able to cancel your insurance at any time.
I was happily insured with LSV over many years for my road registered special car. Every now and again I like to stretch her legs during CAMS events at some of Australia's great venues and fully understand that during track events my car is not covered by insurance. However, my car is road registered and so my limited cover was for those special drives on the road. This was made very cl...Read more
ear during my initial quote as well as various phone calls while we sorted out my policy. LSV representatives response was always along the lines of "we will not cover the car while on track, but while it is driven on the road it is covered". Well at the start of the year I was involved in the unthinkable whilst driving my car on the road and was involved in a minor accident involving another car who was deemed to be at fault. The damage to my car consided of a dint and crease on one of the panels and damage to a rim. As per my policy (choice of repairer etc) my car was repaired without issue. However, when it came time for my policy renewal I was sent a letter that states "During your recent claim, you advised that you were using your vehicle on the track and it was this disclosure that led to our decision not to invite renewal." When asked to clarify LSV representatives stated that their underwriting guidelines state that they do not provided insurance to cars that are used on track. Never mind that they will happily take your money despite you clearly informing them of this. Massive coincidence that in the same year I make a no-fault claim, LSV decide to invoke their underwriting guidelines and not invite renewal. Did I mention that I have a scientific mind and don't believe in coincidence....

Lousy claim service
My claim has still not been settled after more than 3 months. It is a simple fire damage claim but due to the incompetence of the claims staff and manager who refuse to drive the claim to settlement the car still sits at the repairer rotting in their yard. Unfortunately their claims team seem unaware of the insurance industry code of practice which requires that claims be settled in a timely manner and that customers be treated fairly and honestly. Their assessor is insisting on a second quote but keeps failing to obtain it. I keep being given deadlines as to when settlement will be finalised only to find that these promises evaporate into thin air.

Car in total loss
Had an accident in my business vehicle where I was not at fault. Resulted in total loss where value of vehicle was calculated very less & they are deducting GST out of the total value. They are Nothing else but a Bunch of crooks.

No problems
My Wife crashed our "Special" imported van into a wall and caused quite a lot of damage. The claims process was smooth and consistent and excess hasn't been raised at all. Overall I was happy with the service. I was surprised they went ahead with the repairs instead of paying out our "agreed" value but I wasn't too bothered either way. I have just renewed again for the 4th year in a row. One criticism I had was they were unable to put pressure on the repairer for a slow turn around of our van repairs but that was not their fault.

Lumley Special Vehicle - NOT so special rather TERRIBLE
I had my Ferrari 360 Spider insured with Lumley Special Vehicle and as a result of an unfortunate break in, the soft top was cut which then had to be replaced with some parts of the convertible mechanism. It took me one week to lodge a claim with these guys and after 10 days of the incident, I was asked to take the car to the repairer. It has been more than 5 weeks since then and my claim has not be authorized as the assessor keeps asking petty questions from the repairer so much so that my repairer called me and said if I want to take my car t...Read more
o someone else, its just taking a space in the garage with no outcome from the insurance company. Whenever I call LSV, I get the standard answer every time - our assessor is looking at it and will come back to you with more information and then no one comes back until I call next time. I have spent hours on the phone hearing their wait music so much so that this tune has now started to affect my nerves. I am seriously considering going to the Ombudsman but bottom-line is they are terrible to deal with and they do not pay your claims so don't be enticed when they give you a competitive quote for insurance because they wont pay your claims and will make you go round and round in circles until you or your repairer give in.Similar opinion? Shameless, Liars, A total rip-off!!!
Nobody should insure with Lumley Special Vehicles Insurance as you will have to fight every step of the way when claiming.
LSV sell cheap insurance but you get what you pay for. Two years ago my classic Mustang was damaged but because it is candy apple red, it required a full respray. I had it totally covered with LSV for $90K, and the repair quote was $30K. Well I thought I'd just have to lodge a claim.... how very wrong I was!!!

iability as it was a "pre existing" condition. This lead to a two month battle with them especially when they wanted to do "destructive testing" to find the fault, but I would not agree, as I didn't wanted further damage done. They finally did an "internal" review of the findings, without me being able to make representation and guess what, they upheld their own assessors' findings, how unusual!! Still not happy I submitted a claim to the Financial Ombuddsman Services (who control the insurance industry) and after a further 6 months of lodging documents and testemonials, I was awarded settlement by the FOS and LSV had to pay up.Similar opinion? Great product, great price.
Called the Lumley Special Vehicles call centre to get a quote for my 1955 MG TF roadster. The staff know all about classic cars and my car in particular. I have been with Shannons for years and the pricing I got from Lumley's was a lot cheaper. However the range of features were identical. I managed to insure my car for an agreed value and also get salvage rights. Thumbs up! They're also backed by Wesfarmers Insurance which is a real plus.
Great service, good price.

A fraction cheaper at lsv...but what happens at claim time?
No guaranteed agreed amounts at time of claim of write off or theft at lsv
