This review is for the 2008 MPS Sports. Great car. Has a split personality. Can be driven around normally like a standard Mazda3. Handling during normal driving doesn't feel like anything special. In fact the steering feels a bit heavy. But then, on a nice bit of road, you open up the taps and WHOOMPA! This thing flips over to its other personality. Everything just seems to come together. The car's handling characteristics seem to tighten up like a cat about to pounce. The thing grips (on Kumho Ecsta KU31) and gives nice neutral balance wit...Read more
h a touch of pleasant oversteer if you really push hard. The power comes on like a slingshot in 3rd. 4th gear is awesome too. Has plenty of acceleration in 5th at highway speeds (not necessary to change down). And on the highway, overtaking and hills are easily taken care of in 6th. There's not much fun to be had in 1st and 2nd. I think I probably clench my teeth in these two gears just trying to get through them quickly and smoothly without spinning tyres. All worth it when you hit 3rd. This car really shines on sweeping curves more so than on really tight (eg 25km/hr speed advisory) curves. On sweepers with nice smooth bitumen, this car is unbeatable. Dropping down into 3rd (or even 4th) on boost and poking the accelerator snaps necks. Yes, it will torque steer if you stomp the go pedal mid-corner when on boost (one of those things you do once just to experience it). Would you stomp a V8 RWD mid-corner? 3rd, 4th and 5th. Great handling in Mr Hyde mode. Made in Japan. Nice quality interior. External styling does not scream "Look at me! Look at me! I'm a boy-racer.". Can be difficult to get fast start off from the lights. 1st and 2nd are difficult children. Firm suspension can be unsettled a little by mid-corner bumps (but regathers composure just fine). Fuel economy not great (and requires premium).Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I bought a new SP23 in 2008 and love it. Some of the cons listed above have been amended in the new SP25 however I prefer the look of this model.
The car meets/exceeds most of the criteria I purchased it for. I got the optional luxury pack with leather seats & the awesome BOSE stereo system.
The car is a pleasure to drive and performance is more than adequate.
Last November I took it to Oran Park on a drive day where i thought i would find some chinks in the Mazda 3s armour, mainly brakes & suspension.
I got there in the morning to damp gre...Read more
asy track, the car tracked very predictably with a slight tendency to understeer, easily controlled on the throttle (with the traction control off). Switching the car off then on again automatically resets the T/C to on witch I discovered on my next session on the circuit. While taking a fast corner where I was previously drifting sideways the T/C straightened things out without any fuss. After 30mins of track work the brakes were only just starting to fade and after a short cool off they were good for another flogging. All up the Mazda 3 SP23 is a top all round performer, even for the odd track day (highly recommended). If driven carefully I can get 7.2l per 100kms. Classic style looks, equipment level(sp23).Awsome handling, good ride, driving position. Its the ideal compramise in size, performance, and economy.Good steering feed back, powerful brakes, *Poor visibility past the "A"pillar.*No lumber support on the front seats.*Lack of remote boot release.*No trip computer.*Stupid space saver speare wheel.

I had a 2004 maxx and recently traded on a bigger car. These cars are the best, they drive so well and run pretty cheap. They have fantastic cosmetic features and I got a great trade price on mine. I would have kept this car for ever but it got a bit small when i had a baby. When there is a reward facing child seat in the back the front passenger seat gets a bit small, not much leg room, my husband had to drive everywhere or sit in the back. The boot is small if you have a large pram. For singles and couples this is an excellent car, I really miss mine :(
Great small car, loved being able to fold seats down, fantastic resale.
gets a bit small when you need to fit a pram in the boot and with a reward facing child seat.

Fantastic vehicle. Purchased a Mazda 3 Maxx Sport in December 2006 and absolutely loved the vehicle, have just traded it in on a 4wd Mazda (family car) the only con i can say about this vehicle is the fact that three adults had to squeeze in the back seat, however it is not designed as a family car.
Very fuel economical, for an automatic i used to get 700K's out of a 50 Litre tank.
Great looking car inside and out, very easy to park and acceleration was fantastic. Air conditioning was extremely cold.
Overall fantastic car however not...Read more

Mazda 3 MZR-CD Diesel. Amazing.
Great little car, the perfect highway cruiser. MZR-CD version gets all the goodies with 6-speed gear box, alloys, cruise, fog lights, power everything, DSC and properly decent 6 speaker stereo (with AUX in for ipods) but the standout is the engine.
Bucket loads of torque (360Nm) which comes on very low down in the revs. Goes like a rocket up the biggest hills with a full car load of people. A real pleasure to drive. Not your typical boy racer setting off from the lights as it loses power at about 4,500 rpm. But great for highway driving and o...Read more

Most fun car I've ever owned
Great looks, fuel economy, and reliability. Best of all it goes like a cut snake when you put your foot down. Definitely faster than most V8's on the road, without all the police attention. WIN!
Performance, economy, looks, reliability
Hard to get off the line in first...needs AWD

I purchased a second hand 2005 Mazda 3 SP23 with very low kms in 2007 and it has been a great car. I drive around 500kms per week and it drives exceptionally well, is comfortable and has great features. The fuel economy is not as fantastic as I thought, and may consider downsizing from the 2.3 litre. Comfort and drive is excellent, responsive even in 5th gear going up a long hill- picks up speed to overtake extremely well. Road noise is noticeable, but could be due to low profile tyres- even at low speed, but excessive on the highway. Radio/CD...Read more
Bose Stereo takes care of that though. All in all a wonderful package. Will buy Mazda again. Nice handling, full of features, comfortable seating, extra power when needed, stereo sound is awesome, great looking display and great looking car. Terrible
I have had mine for 3 years and I hate it! It is just the worst spec'd car I have ever had. Compared to what is offered in competing models, I would never choose this car. It rattles like nothing else, and has absolutely nothing extra about it. Even the seat squeaks. It's just built cheap.
Safety
Rattles, all over the place, tinny feel, under basic extras, no cruise control, no electric windows, did I say rattles? Spaceship dash??? Yuk

Did you buy it new?
sounds like you bought a car that had been crashed or thrashed!
No electric windows? All Mazda 3s have had electric windows in Australia so you've bought a cheap grey import or a cut-and-shut bodgy job.
@kensomark
There are a lot of series 1 Mazda 3's without electric windows, it was only a option on all Neo base models between it's introduction (late 03) until May 06.

This car is a pleasure to drive each day, the manual gear box is tight and close the interior is modern and comfortable and the audio/electronics are brilliant.
Just an all around fun car!.
The adds don't lie, even the base model Neo has Zoom Zoom. It corners like it's on rails and has good acceleration when you put the foot down. I have a 2008 Neo sport (includes Alloy wheels and upgraded interior) which I also added Cruise control/steering wheel audio controls and the Safety pack (6 airbags and stability control), with the same set up as the...Read more

Great little car. I have previously owned Honda's, Toyotas and a Daewoo in this class and I believe this betters all of them. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this car again. The great resale is a bonus as well.
I've owned a Mazda 3 Neo for about three years. I have never had a problem with it. The handling and acceleration are excellent for this class of car. The tyre and brake wear are very good with a typical set lasting up to 65,000 kms. The interior is easy to clean which is a good thing having three children. The interior finish is clean and there is plenty of storage space. I have had nothing at all go wrong with the car since buying it new.
Perhaps a little heavy on petrol for a small car.

Very happy with the car - I did a lot of background research over the net and concluded that there was only two cars to consider in my purchase pirameters ( $30,000 / $40,000 - small sporty car without being a coupe). Those two were the Honda and the Mazda. I chose the Mazda because of a more flexible delievery basis but would have been happy with either. Importantly both cars could accomodate my golf clubs and buggy.

I can't speak highly enough of this car. The styling is awesome the interior sensational. Great seats in the SP23 Great 6 stacker sound system. Sensational engine sound into the cab at revs. No rattles or squeaks have developed. Good size boot. Love the 5 spd auto with manual shift from either gear lever or steering wheel paddles. Great for winding country roads like the black spur near Marysville or The Great Ocean Road. Did make the dog sick though. er My mate has the sport and apart from about an extra $35000 and the badge I think the Mazda holds it's own, and I'm a BMW fan. Purchased my SP23 brand new 6 months ago 2007 model. A great looking sporty car that just itches to be driven a little harder "Zoom Zoom" it handles superbly. Tyre noise is still a problem but not as bad as it was with the earlier models. Service intervals could be longer most are now 15,000Klm - 20,000Klm or 12 monthsnot every 6 months/10,000klm but otherwise no other problemsSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Apart from the spare tyre issue, I really love this car. It is a real pleasure to drive and is easy to park. It is great around town but also travels well on the highway. It was a little more expensive than I would have hoped but I am very happy with it. I haven't had any problems with it apart from the cruise control but that is the fault of the local dealership who fitted it. All round great car.

Nothing better. Zoom Zoom you've done it again. Great size boot, fantastic audio system, love the audio & cruise controls on the steering wheel. The seat belt safety light indicater is a gem, great engineering. I wouldn't buy anything else than a Mazda.
Apperance is sleek & sexy. This is no plain Jane car. Drives beautifully.
Needs a boot release on the key remote

Great car, has given me heaps of enjoyment with no dramas, I would own another one without a second thought - maybe a SP23 even.
04 Maxx Sports, Great handling, precise steering, very capable suspension, good brakes - abs of course, has a very pleasing interior, good instruments, good stereo, fun power from the 2 litre engine, I love the 5 speed gearbox. The boot is ok and being able fold down the the rear seats reveals a surprising amount of room.Fuel economy is excellent even when driven hard, reliability is great, backed up by a good warranty. Finish is great and the car looks sporty.
Ride is a bit firm - maybe due to the lower profile tyres on the Maxx Sports, not much else to complain about.

I just bought the Mazda 3 2008/09 Neo Sport. In my opinion this car LOOKS THE BEST both externally and internally compared to every other small/mid sized car in its class. Fuel economy is 510km per 45 liters. It has a 55 litre tank.
Price, looks, interior design, dashboard lights & fuel economy.
Spare wheel. Base model excludes standard features like - side airbags, fog lamps & crusie control.

I have the Mazda 3 Sedan Maxx Sport 2005 and it is my first car and I absolutely love it! No troubles mechanically what so ever and it has been 3.5 yrs. Very fuel efficient too!
Looks fabulous (obviously a lot of people think so with the amount of Mazda 3s out and about!), great to drive, handy size to drive around suburbia and easy to park. The orange interior lights, funky car key design, 6 stacker CD system and tiptronic system are just bits of the icing of the wonderful Mazda 3 cake.
More colours came out only after I bought my car.:(A button on the car key to release the boot would be nice.

I have had my Mazda 3 2006 for 6 months now and love it! Great zippy car. Has plenty of power when needed. It feels big enough to not be squishy when full, but easy to park etc. Boot is big enough for everything I need. Really good on fuel consumption. Was very easy to get used to, has very good features including cruise control, good stereo, plenty of space in interior and very comfy seats. Drove it from North Queensland down to Melbourne and had no worries at all!
Great little car, very spacious inside, plenty of boot room. Good on fuel
Nothing so far!

Bad
Not a bad little car. We test drove everything we could get our hands on in this class and this had the best ride and interior. Handles bad roads well, there's just a lot of road noise, but I've heard the tyres contribute to this. The plastic trim is hard and cheap-looking and the centre console plastic is not one-piece and is starting to separate which looks very normal. The fatal flaw is the passenger seatbelt warning lights and beeper set above the rear vision mirror. The detectors in the seats think a 3Kg backpack is a person and if the sea...Read more
tbelt is not fastened the light and the beeper goes off. The Mazda dealer said the system can be disabled but they won't do it and it will void the warranty. It could be a great car, the best in it's class, but road noise and seatbelt warning system is just too annoying. Plenty of interior room, willing engine, quality build. Road noise (cheap OEM tyres), cheap interior trim that doesn't meet up in centre console, passenger seat belt warning thinks backpack or groceries is a person.Similar opinion?
