This is an ideal car for anyone really.
A new driver, a mum with kids, even an elderly person would love this.
It hardly uses any petrol as long as you're not accelerator friendly.
I had to have the motor fixed only once but this was after an accident and parts for it are very cheap.
I've had a 2001 Lancer for about 5 years now. I love the way it drives, so smooth! It's family friendly with three possible anchor points for anyone that has kids! The compact size will get you in and out of parking spots with ease.
Really the only fault I can think of is that there is no windshield wiper on the rear window. Insurance is also a bit dear, apparently these have a high theft risk :(

Looks not bad, economy isn't bad, level of options not bad, space isn't bad, price isn't bad. So overall it isn't bad. It really is an appliance, does the job with minimal fuss. Standard options included such as ABS and cruise control gives it an edge over other small wagons.
Remarkably unremarkable. Good price with the new shape Lancer being out.
Not that quick considering it is a 2.4l and fuel consumption not as low as it could be.

A value for money mid range car. Suitable for singles or small families and sporty enough for the young at heart.
Comfortable, reliable, cheap.
Gearbox isn't too smooooth... Console needs a cover.

Overall I fully recommend this car. A true drivers car. peace of mind motoring considering the free road side asssist and 5/10 warranty.
ES Lancer: One of the factors was the ease of the drive, this car rides exceptionally well and with the 2.4 Mivec engine it has power when you need it. The seating was very comfortable. Fuel economany was great in both city and Highway cycle. Tis car is well appointed with CD, AC, Cruise Control and electric windows all standard on the base model. Plenty of space inside and it comes with 5 years Road side asssist, 5/10 warranty, I am sold on this.
The CD players could do with a bit of an upadte, it has MP3, the only let down is the display, a bit old hat for me.

The Manual 2.4 Lancer ES is fun to drive and very fast and the engine pulls like a train up hills and you get ABS, 4 wheel disc brakes and cruise control. The car is a bit thirsty around town but great on a run but for the price you cannot beat it. The boot space is excellent and been up to Brisbane from Sydney twice with 5 in the car and it used very little fuel and was comfortable. I have not tried the auto version though as I only drive manual cars. The boot size on the new CJ Lancer is smaller so not sure If I would buy a new one unless the...Read more

Best car I've had. Handles well. Comes with 5yr warranty. Great to look at and can be easily 'hotted up' with a HUGE range of accessories like bodykits and spoilers.
Smaller exterior than full size sedan but just as big inside. All the features you need and more. Great to drive.
Full economy could be better

I have a 2002 model Lancer & I love it. I just need something smaller to drive to & from work but large enough to take the kids to were the needed to go and it has been great for all that. The fuel economy is amazing & doesn't make much difference if it's city traffic or on a longer run the economy is much the same. The Lancer has been so reliable it hasn't missed a beat which is good for a mum with kids. My 17 year old son learnt to drive in it as it's a great size for learners.
Great little zippy car, good fuel ecconomy
Electric window on drivers side doesn't quit go all the way down. I think it's for safety but its annoying

I have had my Lancer Coupe since November 2001 and it has been an excellent, reliable and efficient car that I would recommend as a first car for anyone. For the price it has been an excellent buy. The on road warranty is excellent.
Reliable, efficient car. Cheap to run and keeps on going. Top of the range Bridgestone Potenza tyres. Engine is sporty and has a good get up. Can upgrade body kits and rims very easily. Servicing is every 15000kms. Rear seats in the Coupe is very adequate and can fit 2 adults and a child easily.
Suspension has not lasted well initially but since changing has lasted well. Tyres are expensive to replace.

I have the MR Lancer and it is just fantastic. I bought it brand new in 2002 in the Dark Green colour and I just love it. I wouldn't buy another two door car again however now that the kids have their own cars it is just perfect for me. It is very fuel efficient and so comfy to drive. I have not had any mechanical failures at all on the car other than normal wear and tear (like brakes and tyres).
Great sexy looking car! Fantastic colours! Very economical! Easy to park and zippy to drive around town in! Automatic windows! Great speaker and stereo system!
The CD stacker is in the boot!

I have a Mitsubishi sedan 1.8L 2002 model. Manual drive & manual window control which I always wanted.
Instruments & control:
Everything is good especially tripmeter is in digital except there is no tachometer in my model 2002. There is no windscreen wipers intervals control available and no cruise control which I wish it's available. Aircon is pretty cold and confy.
Interior & exterior:
Interior design is simple and nice, good for a couple and small family size. Back compartment is consider alright to fit 3-4 small standard size of lu...Read more

On the little details you've provided - it would be almost impossible to diagnose .
I would recommend taking the car to a Mitsubishi australia workshop or possiby a reasonable mechanical repairs and servicing workshop or if the problem may be within the electrics then perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help.
I also found ultratune experts at diagnosis and repairs of faults.
