WORST COMPANY
NSW, Sydney ShuttersThe worst and rudest company I have EVER dealt with.
$20k for 2 days work. Had a quote done and paid the deposit there and then. Explained we were in talks with the bank to increase our mortgage so wouldn't be proceeding for approx. 3 months which we were told was fine. Couple of weeks later phone calls started saying we needed to book in our job. We explained we would have the funds available end of April and was told that would be fine and they are just organising the schedule and would be in touch to book in dates around end of April. Week
... Read more later they call and say we will be there in 30 mins to clean the roof....no notice, no warning, just showed up. We explained we have a disabled mother in law living with us so need ample warning and we don't have the funds yet! [Name Removed] who we spoke to numerous times on the phone was SO rude and said we won't be able to do any work until you pay. He quickly changed his tune and apologised when we expressed how unhappy we were and wouldn't recommend the company and explained they have a few bad reviews so would like to change our opinions and cleaned the roof without payment. (3 days later we received the funds and phoned first thing to make 1st payment) The SUB CONTRACTORS were lovely and apologised that this was happening and ensured next time we would have notice to organise things around them. Unfortunately this didn't happen and THREE times they showed up with no warning or notice expecting to do the work, even when it was raining! This was VERY frustrating, Modern and the Sub-contractors were blaming each other, shock. In total the completed the work was done in 2 days and then demanded the money even though they knew they were to leave 15 tiles spare but didn't have any. So we refused until our tiles had been dropped off. They came today and I was happy to make payment and asked how much is owed I then overheard [Name Removed] on loud speaker say to the contractor 'they have the contract, they can look at what they owe' WOW(I was stood outside in my pjs at 7:30am) 'make sure you get receipt of payment from THOSE people' I sent the receipt but that wasn't good enough, they wanted a screenshot showing the payment had been paid. How disrespectful! My partner is at work and his since received 3 missed calls from them as the sub contractor gave me the wrong outstanding amount. NOT our fault but proceeded to tell me partner we have the contract, we know what we owe. I certainly won't recommend this company and will never use them again. The clearly are so desperate for money and are just COWBOYS. Don't waste your money and go to a company that looks after you and cares. Don't make the same mistake we did.Customer service?
NSW, Sydney Shuttersfollowing extensive storm damage to our house, we contacted sales re a measure and quote to replace a damaged shutter. After three phone calls still no resolution. Have nine roller shutters previously purchased from this company so felt it right to return. Best offer was for a person to come at end of February. I know we live two hours away but here was a definite sale. Phone calls were not returned and while office staff were pleasant, action was limited. Since this window faces East and there is no longer any weather protection in summer, I think it is essential to have a replacement as soon as possible. One window is not a big sale but the PR is invaluable. Have started seeking quotes from other suppliers.

We contacted Modern as well as two other companies, and they were much more pleasant to deal with, ranging from sales tactics, product knowledge, product quality during the sales demonstration and desire to accommodate our needs.
Whilst they are not the cheapest quote out there, our experience has been great all the way through to installation. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Richard and his local team.

Like others I was asked to make sure my husband would be present, politely, mind you. But really? The rep who turned up stayed for nearly an hour because we would not sign up on the spot. Every other quote we obtained only took ten minutes. We had made it really clear that we wanted to think about it. We had to say that three times throughout the time he was there and he still tried to change our mind. Not a happy customer
NSW, Sydney ShuttersI got there shutters in my house to which I tell you please keep your money and go else where. When in warranty I called the company as some of the shutters where rattling when going up and down although was told that there was nothing wrong and apparently it was normal. Now they are out of warranty and I still have the same problem. In addition to this some of the rooms in the home with shutters have never been opened or have only been used 2 or 3 time although completely don’t go up or down. He is now booked in for next week to service a different shutter as a result of my calling yesterday and speaking with Jayne. She too, was friendly, professional and polite in organising the callout. When she quoted me the price for a new motor, I asked if there was any chance of a discount as I was a repeat customer. Without any fuss she worked out the best price she could

The work was superb. Sean Dicker carried out his service extremely professionally. He was meticulous with every aspect of providing the service.
Modern can only be very proud and honoured to have such a person representing Modern.
We have been with Modern for many years (as your record will attest) and the service has always been professional. However, Sean particularly shined because of his personality, respect and tremendous people skills.

NSW, Sydney ShuttersThis is a bit of a long read but I hope I can save people from dealing with this type of unethical behaviour. I was referred to Modern from a relative who had roller shutters installed by this company because they were offered a family and friends discount of 41%. I called them to make an appointment and was told to ensure that both myself and my wife were available for the appointment. On the day, the salesman showed up and ran me through the process. He would measure my windows, then tell me about the company and the products, then go through
... Read more the pricing. Things got quite interesting after that. He gave me a full history of the company. Fair enough, good to have a little bit of background to know the company isn't going to go broke half way through the process. Then an explanation of the product stressing how the technology was exclusive to Modern, and their competitors' products were of inferior quality with materials made in China while theirs were all made in Australia. That would be a good selling point if it were true. Several of their competitors manufacture right here in Australia. This immediately left a bad taste in my mouth. He was being dishonest. If you need to bag your competitors to sell your product it tells me you don't have confidence in your own product to be able to sell it on its merits. In any case, I let him have some rope. Next came the pricing. He already knew that we were eligible for the 41% family and friends discount. but when he did his calculations (on a paper pad with a pencil, long hand multiplication and division. Why such a large company doesn't have quotation software on the laptop he brought with him is questionable. At least a calculator!) After his calculations he showed us a figure which I believe to be way over budget for most people. He paused a bit to let my wife and I look at each other in disappointment. Then he says "That's the price with a 10% discount which we would normally give." Let me tell you what the family and friends discount does for you." Then he proceeds to do his back of the envelope maths again and shows us another figure. Still quite hefty based on a little bit of online research I had done. I politely told him that we would need to think about it and we would call him back. Then he got a little stroppy and said "What is there to think about? You're getting a really good price!"I told him still, he was the first quote and I like to get a few different quotes to compare the product and value for money. Then he started bagging their competition again saying that they were all made in China and I would regret it. I told him that it's not true and that the two other companies I had invited to quote manufacture in Australia. He asked me who they were and when I told him he said he'd never heard of them. (This would be a lie because these two companies have regular tv, radio and print ads. Since he told me he'd been with Modern for 20 years I found it a little odd that he didn't know who his major competitors are. Then he reaches up his sleeve for another trick when he says, Äctually, the quote I've given you is wrong, I gave you that 41% off on the 10% discounted price rather than the original price, but I'm happy to honour that for you. Let me ring the office to see if it's ok" After a brief discussion. "The manager says that since it was my error (how convenient!) I have to honour it. You won't get a better price than this!"We are very sorry that this has been your experience and we would like to investigate this matter further for you.

The worst part is that you get visibly irritated when I tell you that I would like to think about it. Rather than allow me that courtesy which your competitors were happy to do, your salesperson tried to psychologically blackmail me saying that the discounted quote would only apply if I agree to it now. NSW, Sydney ShuttersTerrible experience with measure & quote. The worst measuring i have ever seen, the tape measure wasnt even straight, they didnt care! No wonder there are other reviews about shutters not fitting.
They then launched straight into pushy sales mode with relentless hard sell. Targeted my wife with even more pushy techniques. Price kept dropping & final price was almost 50% of original. Wouldn't write down or put his 'today only deal' into the quote. Smoke & mirrors continued with a push to buy now pay later.
I won't be using Modern. Deal with these guys at your own risk!

The first MG consultant tradesman recommended a complete refit. However, another MG consultant initiated adjustments that produced a marked improvement. But still the bifolds will not stay closed due, apparently, to the uneven floor

... Read moree are placed against the walls at either end. The walls are not set plumb. Therefore, the shutter frame is not plumb, and the shutters do not hang plumb. The whole installation needs to be taken out and redone. With excellent tenants, I can otherwise manage the property from my home outside of Australia. But because of my location, and because I am not prepared to have the expense of a representative, I have been unable to deal with this issue. Questions & Answers
After renovations one of my existing Modern Plantarion Shutters doesn't fit, it has 4 panels, it was fitted on a raw brick window, now this window has gyprock and tiles, it became 20 mm narrower at both sides, my plantation shutter is a total of 40 mm TOO WIDE, the high is ok.
My question is can it be fix? Is there a way to make it fit the window?
Most likely, if you got a surrounding frame, the panels can be modified to be mounted directly into the window opening. Any carpenter can do this for you.

Just be very very careful what you sign with them. They offer you this "unbelievable" finance offer with associated "discount" but the devil is in the small print. They offer identical products to many places but just at a much higher price which they then bring down to make the sale. Make sure you get a second quote (Modern invariably will tell you that deal will only be valid for that day - ignore that desperate sales pitch)
