Calling for help since 3 years - still NAB can't help
My problem: I don't receive the SMS confirmation when I do a funds transfer to a third party account using the NAB iOS app.
Story: Since about 3 years I have made numerous calls, talked to the same number of different people. Every NAB officer takes about 5-10 min just to understand that I am not talking about my SMS reminders, but the SMS confirmations when I do funds transfer. Everyone thinks I am stupid and gives the same answer - "May be you are not checking the box just before finalizing the transfer".
I have tried everything they asked ...Read more

Couldn't change the address
I moved to new house and changed the address, still the letters are mailed to the old address. the funny here is, the new house is my own house which is mortgaged with NAB and they send the address to old address.

Holy cow... extremely difficult for joint account holders to use
I just signed up for classic banking because of refinancing a mortgage and 2 additional home loans for investments. My wife and I always have joint accounts and never had any trouble with setting up or making account changes before. I do all the banking as my wife is from a non Australian background with limited knowledge about this.
Now, the problem is that we have separate ID's. I have never come across this before as I usually bank with Heritage and also Bankwest. The problem is that I can't act on my wife's behalf like I normally do!

Brilliant No 2 ways about it.
Moved to NAB after being fed up with comm banks. The branches are relatively smaller but everything seems to be spot on. Had account for almost 4 years now but never really used it much. Now that I am, fallen in love with it. Only wish they had 24hr cash deposit ATM.
No Fee.
Credit card criteria too high.

Brilliant for fee free basic banking.... once you have the account up and running, anyway
I love that this bank account exists, as it is perfect for my joint groceries account with my boyfriend, where I don't want to pay for our very basic needs on this front. It has a visa debit card attached, some branches are open on Saturdays (great!) and another bonus is that you can set up a regular SMS to tell you your bank balance (I get it to tell me on Saturday mornings, after the Friday direct debits go out but before I go to the supermarket). There are no limits to ATM cashouts (with their own ATMS), no account keeping fees, and I don't ...Read more
have to deposit a couple of thousand dollars per month or whatever. However, do NOT set up your account online. And if you live in postcode 2026, they won't tell you this but they WILL send your cards to Melbourne multiple times before they explain that they refuse to send cards to this area because they've had things go missing. My boyfriend was demanding we cancel the account at this point - he was completely stunned that they couldn't even deliver to a PO Box in 2026 (Bondi/North Bondi/Tamarama) which, given that they're actually locked and based at the Post Office, was extremely weird. It took about 6 weeks and 1-2 phonecalls per week for us to stop receiving 'your card is now ready for collection in West Melbourne' letters (something to do with that being the centre for their accounts set up online) and be allowed to go and collect the cards from the branch. Since that time, this account has been brilliant. Just make sure to open it at your local branch, and organise to collect your card from there in person. That way you'll avoid our ridiculous dramas. no fees, visa debit card, SMS updates, easy to use online banking took six weeks to actually get our cards after repeated calls to customer serviceSimilar opinion? OK
the nab network is great. branches and atms across australia as well as readily accepted as a eftpos card. internet banking very easy to use and lots of features. this is a great account if you think you will overdraw your account. you will not be penalised with fees. now nab has removed reference fees on all accounts it would be worth checking with the local branch to see this is still the best option
no fees for overdrawing your account. atm network is huge.
higher monthly fee. not such a necessary account now nab has removed reference fees for overdrawing accounts on all personal accounts.

Great Account!!
I like that the NAB have came on board like other financial institutions and offer a fee free banking account, regardless of how much gets deposited into the account per month. This is my secondary bank and I am glad that the fee structure exists.
There are a lot of NAB ATM's in my area (Northern Melbourne) and for the times that there are no ATM's cash out is available through the EFTPOS network.
I am happy doing banking with NAB online and through ATM's as the people at the local branch are a little rude for my liking.
There is also the Redi ATM network that applies to NAB customers which is excellent to have.
An easy fee free bank account with a Visa Debit Card.

Excellent
I have yet to find a better deal! The network of ATM's is great and they do not charge a fee to use another networks ATM (The other network may charge a fee however)
Almost entirely FEE FREE! Great free internet banking, free phone banking, free sms banking, free visa debit card....
Slow to get the accounts operational when applying online if new customer.

Bad
If you earn the required amount of money to be fee free, it is a great account. However if you don't then the fees are quite punishing, it doesn't matter if you have lots of money in the account the bank only cares about what goes in each month.
Great if you earn the amount of money required to be "fee free"
I went on maternity leave and of course I am earning a lot less now so I get slammed with fees every month. Just closed this account, so currently use my husband's accounts to do my banking. Doesn't say much for a bank that punishes long standing customersbecause they are now mothers.

Good
Much better since they changed the product to one thats simple and relativly fee free. It could only be made better by adding the "chip" to the card, and allowing people to use it overseas for nothing.
It now fee free, so no account keeping fee, no minimum deposits needed to stay fee free. Choice of card colours
Unlike the Gold Visa Debit, you get charged for using ATMs overseas

Need to open a savings account for my son, who's 16. the on line application stops when i put his birth date in. how can i open an account thanks

Under the age of 18 I believe the bank requires and adult to be co-signature.
Ring online support or go into a branch and get a 'human' to assist thru the online application
That is if there is more than 1 person in the branch. Our local branch usually only has two people at the busy hour ie 10am to 11am or 3pm to 4pm *** that's what they call customer service....
