Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser

I have atopic skin, very sensitive and prone to drying. I bought this "extra gentle" cleanser based on the excellent reviews it got but after using it I had the typical dry and tight skin feeling from so many other cleansers and soaps so this Neutrogena was not gentle nor hydrating at all.

I then read the most recent reviews and immediately understood the reason and I agree that whatever is in this new formula, it has completely ruined it. It's really frustrating.

I have dry sensitive skin and had searched far and wide for a gentle cleanser before discovering the Neutrogena Extra Gentle. I loved how minimal yet effective the original formula was. Out of the many that I had tried, it was the only cleanser that didn't dry out my skin or leave a residue and was a pleasure to use. The new formulation is the total opposite - far too drying and burns the skin around my nose and mouth. It's frustrating because I had used this cleanser for years and must now find something new. Pleeease listen to your customers Neutrogena and bring back the original Extra Gentle!

I decided to divert from using my deep clean face wash to something that would be a little more gentle on my skin as neutrogena's deep clean face wash was too drying on my skin. Big mistake!! This new and improved formula is absolutely nasty!! There was nothing wrong with the original. If it aint broken don't fix it. I'm assuming neutrogena decided to use cheaper ingredients to cut costs. Greedy! I have never had acne before in my life and this stuff caused me to break out severely. I will never use any of your products again and will encourage others to do so as well.

I’ve used this cleanser for years and now the company changed it and added chemicals that burn my skin. Used to be able to use it over eyelids and now it’s horrible. Why would they change it. Please bring back original formula. There’s no other product that compares.

It used to be a creamy and gentle cleanser - now, it’s rough as guts on my skin.

There is nothing else I’ve found that comes close to the old formula, so I’m really stuck now with what to use. Needless to say, I won’t be buying this again - I’ve already turfed it.

Have been using the old formula for a long time, also my daughter started using it and loved it. WE HATE the new formula, it stings the eyes and skin and is not effective in cleansing. Please bring back the original and I will start buying it again....

I can only echo what others have said. One can only assume Neutrogena don't bother reading reviews of their products or they would have left this cleanser alone rather than reformulating it. The old formulation was gentle (to the point that I had to use it in conjunction with oil to remove makeup: but that was ok because it worked) - the new formulation doesn't feel particularly gentle, and my face has been feeling more dry and slightly itchy. Please bring back the old formulation!!

I have been using this product for years, it was one of the most effective make up removers, and so gentle on the skin, but like the other reviews, was disappointed to find the formula had been recently changed. It now does not remove makeup effectively, stings around the eyes and is definitely not extra gentle any more as the name implies. Why change something when it's been working so well for so long? Please bring back the old formula. I won't be buying the new one again.

have used old formula for years. hate the new one it stings and is sticky, smells and i will have to try to find another brand! Why the change it was a classic

Sadly, Neutrogena have changed the formula - for the worse. It now stings the eyes - the old formula was THE BEST - cleansed all makeup painlessly. PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA. I won't be using the new one.

I used the old extra gentle cleanser for years and had just introduced it to my teenagers as the best and most gentle cleanser they would find. I was horrified when I pumped out my new product and found it left my skin feeling dry and irritated. I don't know what to do now because I have been through so many different cleansers in my day and this was the only one that really protected my skin. PLEASE bring back the old formula. I know a lot of other people are asking for it back. I can't understand why it was changed at all!

Doesn't work as good as other cleansers. What really puts me off is that it has the smell and consistency of Clag. Ended up throwing most of it away. Looks like it may have been discontinued though?

I was recommended this cleanser by my dermatologist as I started to get late on set acne. I have been using it for over a year now and it is brilliant. It is easy to apply thanks to the pump which comes on the bottle, giving just the right amount for a face wash. It leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed, with no irritation.
Ease of use
Might expect it to foam but it stays like a cream

My skin is dry and sensitive, and reacts to most cleansers I have tried. This Neutrogena one is supposed to be gentle, however after a few days of use I notice congestion and small breakouts. This cleanser also does not remove makeup very effectively, and my skin doesn't feel very 'clean' after washing with it. I think it may be more suited to dry but not sensitive skin. I still use it when my skin is dry but only occasionally, and wash it off quickly after application.
The product smells nice, efficient pump bottle.

I have being using this product twice a day for about two years now and absolutely love it. I first brought this product in the hope that their claim that this cleanser was gentle and fragrance free was accurate. It was. I have sensitve skin and needed a clenser that could give me clean, fresh skin without causing irriation. I am happy to say this product does just that. I also love the way it foams up when you rub it in. I would't use anything else on my skin.
Fantastic for sensitive skin. Easy to use pump action bottle.

perfect for a low cost fix for skin with problems such as derma and exma or dry skin... speaking from personal experience...
