Beware new caravan buyers. The ATM (Tare weight plus payload) is an arbitrary value set on the compliance plate by New Age, calculated using undisclosed reasons, but may not reflect the real structural capacities of the caravan. The police are fining many vans having weight which is within structural limitations but exceed the ATM, in all states. There have been reports of people being stranded until they can achieve a legal ATM before being allowed by police to move on. There are also serious insurance implications. Most caravan companies wil...Read more
l legally increase the ATM at the purchaser’s request but not New Age, even though it legally can and even if your car has a sufficient Braked Towing Capacity. This is a policy New Age doesn’t tell you before you buy. Tare weight is the caravan’s empty weight not including after market additions. For example the New Age Dessert Rose, 330 litre tanks(330kg), 2 gas bottles(40kg), 2 batteries(50kg), double mattress(20kg), one of the spares(38kg), 2 full jerry cans in standard fitted holders and generator(100kg), and tools and safety equipment(40kg). This estimated 618kg of weight is not include in the Tare Weight. This exceeds the allowable payload of 600kg and therefore the ATM. In addition food, personal items, clothing, refrigerator contents, utensils, outdoor equipment, annex etc. would possibly add over 200kg more depending on individual circumstances. Similar weight calculations can be made for the other New Age caravan models. Think carefully about who you buy from as its possible you will break the law by exceeding the ATM and New Age will not help you in the same way as most other caravan companies will.Purchased in February 2021 for A$95,000.00.

Hi, we have a 2017 Desert Rose 18ft and we have been having trouble with the solar not charging the batteries. It comes up as E 06 and sad face on the panel. We have disconnected and cleaned the terminals several times and the happy face only lasts an hour or so. We have also checked all other connections and made sure they are tight. Any ideas?

Try cleaning the solar panels.Dirty panels can reduce the charging from 6watts down to 1.5 watts or lower.John

We have a 18ft Desert Rose. Sensational van, but has only 1 thing we are not happy with.
Is it possible to change the fridge to a 3 way fridge? With lots of free camping and off road adventures, can’t believe they didn’t put a gas fridge in the van!

Hi, we’re really pleased with the Wildtrak. We got a HaymenReece tow and leveling setup and now you wouldn’t know you were pulling a van. We’ve passed many 4wheel drives pulling vans and going up hill too !! Have you bought your van yet? Please give us a call 0415 410 999 as we now unfortunately have had to cancel our trips because of my husbands cancer and other health problems. We thought at last we had the car and van of our dreams and were excited about our big trip. Now we’re thinking of selling both as it’s all too much for him. You may be interested in our wonderful setup. Regards Kaye
