Hi Micky; sorry I can't be of help with your question. I own a 2007 model (R51) and it did not come with a GPS. You should be able to call Nissan and surely they will let you know. Good luck.

Pathfinder R51 (2005-2012)

Hi Guys, I have recently purchased a 2007 pathfinder Ti 4.0ltr unleaded auto (love it) but it is very thirsty 17ltr/100km, I drive it very conservatively to try and reduced it from (18ltr down to 16.7ltr since i first got it) but I still think it's to high any suggestions on how to reduce it more?

Also I have only one key and have priced another one at over $500 (has to be genuine nissan according to the locksmith and the computer program that dose the central locking) but have found a cheaper one on ebay that will save me $300.
Has anyone done this? (they say genuine nissan keys but I'm not sure I can trust them) no warranty if it doesn't
work.

thanks for all your help (in advance)

I purchased a genuine Nissan key for my 2005 Pathfinder off Ebay, but I was able to visit the seller's home to have it cut and programmed. $220 all up compared to a quote of $388 for a key and $100 for programming from a Sydney Nissan Dealer. Here's a tip, the guy cutting the key said the R51 Pathfinder ignition key barrel and the key have a tendency to wear. He pointed out the slight tapering wear on my original key. He cut the new key to match. If this isn't done, the new key would increase the rate of wear in the barrel.

I only know about my own Pathfinder 2001 model, nothing has gone wrong with it at all in the 15 years I have had it.
Its a Japanese built vehicle, very good quality. I don't know where the new ones are built, try RAC to get their thoughts.
Best of Luck.

I have 2015 Ti Hybrid AWD version, no issue with the transmission, however, the car only has 25,000 km on the clock.

Ive had a 2002 ST and now have a 2003 ST. Both built in Japan and excellent vehicles. Love my Pathfinder. I was told not to buy 2005 onwards as no longer built in Japan. Reading reviews sounds like it was good advice. Keeping my 2003 for a long time. Though wonder if i can fit a 3.0 D4 turbo diesel? ??

Don't know if they fixed the problem in the 2016 model. Have a 2014 Pathfinder ST, changed transmission thrice in 3years. Nissan in Australia is not too helpful too.

My hope is that you have NOT bought a Nissan before reading my experience with these damn things. I foolishly bought a new Pathfinder ST-L N-TREK 4x4 last year. After 20Klms; I have had to replace all four tyres (even though I followed their wheel rotation recommendations at my cost). The CVT transmission has had to be replaced; leaving the car out of action for 3 weeks. The Navigational maps are still years out of date and you still can't use your smartphone for maps as it won't integrate with their console on-screen. i.e. using Airplay, etc. Instead, we have to sit our phones in a holder on the dash for navigation; what a joke! The folks in their so-called Customer Service (if that's what they want to call it, pfffffft), tell us there is a map update available for $400. I cannot justify paying these exorbitant charges so I can't tell you if they are any better now. The build quality too is very poor. We had interior lights fall out of the plastic surrounds and tow carriages literally falling apart (even though we've never used the tow). All of this has been repaired under warranty, except the navigational maps. Also, seat-belt sensors in the rear seats keep on alarming even though they're unoccupied, (very frustrating). In the not too distant future we will get rid of this lemon and look at buying a Kluger instead. We just hope we can get this underway before their pathetic 3yr warranty runs out. This too was a red flag that I failed to take heed; I should have realised there were inherent problems when all the other manufacturers are offering 5 years or more with their standard warranties. Anyway.........I won't go on anymore for fear of wanting to shoot one's self in the head :)

When you say rear doors won't unlock via central lock/unlock... do you mean they remain locked when arrempting to OPEN the doors from the inside or from the outside of car?

From the outside. I have to open the front doors and reach through and pull open the back doors which is a pain with a newborn child and a 5 year old especially in the rain

I think it has something to do with how your key fob is programmed. Believe that it can be set up to unlock all or just front doors. Your owners manual will give instructions.

My Nissan Pathfinder 2013 is beeping when turning corners while towing a caravan. Sounds like the reverse sensor, but I'm not breaking. Any ideas?

3 answers

Hi Ron
It may be the rear parking sensors picking up the A-frame of the caravan when it moves closer to the vehicle as you turn the corner. You can adjust the sensitivity distance of the parking sensors which may help.

Andrew
Andrew

Hi Ron, do you have a 4WD version or only FWD? Is it occurring at parking speeds moving forward ? It could be the car advising that you are losing traction on the rear wheels which you may then need to drop tyre pressure or slow down. The reverse sensors only activate when reverse is selected. Let us know.

Regarding the sensors switching on when reversing: worthwhile checking . The same can be said from reversing cameras, but they are not.

It's not possible ! The technology is also out of date the only way to play music is by connecting your iPhone through a USB cord in the centre console and playing music stored on your iPhone no Pandora etc

Look at the website www.nissanusa.com/bluetooth for your phone's compatibility to the car first. Then follow their instructions. We have an Apple Iphone 5, Blackberry Q10, and a Huawei Mate S connected to my GPS Sat Nav equipped radio.

Drive into a couple of Tyreshops and get an independent report on your tyres then you will have a fair idea whether your tyres needs replacing.Dont ever trust those Nissan Dealers.Ive got an st model with 15000klm on the clock and its knowhere near that stage that they need replacing.

Elle
Elle

Finally some help I spoke with Continenal tyre rep for my area and Nissan care again to my surprise Nissan and the dealer have decided "as an act of good will" they will this time replace my two front tyres. Small win I guess only time will tell if it is a reoccurring problem and will definitely be monitoring closely I can't believe after speaking to other pathfinder owners and finding they have the same issue might be one to avoid if you're not up for replacing tyres every 10-15 thousand K's

Andrew
Andrew

I have found that some tyre shops like to over-inflate the tyres on the car. This can also lead to excessive wear on the shoulders (outside edges) and I find that pressures between 34-36 PSI are most comfortable and compliant with most bumps. I had a tyre shop fill mine up to 40! which they said was recommended. I found it way too hard and bumpy! Only when I'm towing heavy loads, I will inflate up to 38-40 PSI.

Again, depends on how adventurous you are planning to go! I had a situation where I parked sideways up a sharp embankment where I had the front left wheel and the right rear wheel see-sawing.... even with LOCK activated, those wheels in the air would rotate ! I had to locate a boulder and place it under one of the raised wheels to gain traction. But again 95% of urban drivers wouldn't have parked on this embankment. Any 4WD would have this same problem when their wheel travel limits have been reached.

I'm interested in buying a secondhand 2002 Nissan Pathfinder ST Plus WX II Auto. It has done 218,000 kms comes with full history and paperwork with the timing belt recently changed (at 200,000 kms). Seems in fairly good condition. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this model? Are there any faults that commonly come up with it etc?

Hi.
I'm looking at doing the same and the only thing that seems to be a concern on this model is pretty poor fuel consumption. 13l/100ks highway driving, up to 18l/100ks 4wd heavy offroad conditions. Reading up further, they say it depends on the fuel. Don't use 91 and only 95 (upwards of 50-100ks extra a tank) but if you can afford it use 98 because the consumption is much less. Nobody has quoted amounts though but it makes sense.
One thing I can tell you is DO NOT USE E10 AT ALL. Apparently this will rot your engine seals away. I've heard this on a lot of older vehicles though.
I'm really keen to get my hands on one of these but the fuel consumption is a worry because at best I'd be doing 50/50 4wd/highway use with most use being daily round town. That's my only concern.
Cheers,
Paul

Hi Danni, I'm still enjoying this spacious car. For its price, I think it has alot to offer. Responsive parking and easy to drive. I've written an extensive review for this car. It's a good family car. It's thirsty but anything this big at this price range is just as thirsty.

The service team can't figure out how make voice function works.

Express service takes 2 hours. Not 1 hour like some other brands.

Nothing else is wrong so far.

Hi
I have found this car to have a few issues one is that I tow s caravan despite the 2.7t tow limit the suspension is not able to take 1.4t and I had to use air bags at my cost and the other is the cameras in the car do glitch at times I have told Nissan but this still hasn't been fixed, also Nissan head office are aerogel and rude... Just be aware as I feel after sales service is just as important as the car itself.

I am thinking of buying a 2014-15 Nissan Pathfinder at this stage not sure if a 2 or 4 wheel drive.

Dan O'Keefe

Hi Gary, the Nissans seem to have plenty of grunt by comparison and very capable of pulling that payload.
Ive driven but not towed in the Toyota and found to have less cabin space however it had better ground clearence .lve also towed with a 2015 ford territory and found it to be quite painful given you could feel alot of resistance and knew you were hooked up.
The only downside to the pathfinder is whilst they are capable of pulling 2,700kg they lack adequate suspension and will sit down in the rear. I would suggest 4wd if in your budget so you have good traction, equally I would suggest looking at air bagging the rear or the cheaper option of installing HD king springs .

Have the transmission issue been resolved in the 2015 model?

Dan O'Keefe

Sadly no they haven't ....Nissan is getting replacement transmissions in as required.
We've had ours 4 months and it's been back 14 times, we are driving around in another loan car as I type my response . FYI if you're looking to tow you may want to drive one towing a trailer as I've heard the said 2700kg may not be straight forward with the rear factory suspension . I've hear air bags are the only option.

Outside of the above they are wide body's, ample of leg room, plenty of grunt and perfect inside and out ....
We've also driven the fortuner, Kluga, fJ, hilux Colorado, ranger, territory, cx9 and they aren't even close for comfort and noise installation etc ....

All the best !

Thanks for your reply Dan!

That's unfortunate for you. I want a reliable car. We use it everyday to drive to and from daycare, home and the train station. Comfort is big decision factor because our family is growing. Like you I find the Pathfinder very roomy and comfortable but I'm just holding off getting one because of the Transmission issues. I was told by a salesman that the new stock has a software upgrade that fixes the transmission issues. I was planning on getting one on the weekend with warranty extension to 6 years. But it seems I need to research further. I certainly don't want to invest in something that will become a major headache in the future. By the way, for room and comfort, I find the Kia Sorento to be a good candidate too... price is also close to the Pathfinder's range.

I have been given two of these as loan vehicles and both had very mild gearbox shudder between 1,000 to 2,000 rpm between 40kmh and 54kmh ... Take them for a test drive where you can casually start stop, hill starts are a good test too as the autos should hold and smoothly pull away, ours clunked .... We are still having major problems and Nissan love to stroke your ego but deliver on nothing .....

I heard this is actually an issue with the pathfinders built in 2013. There is a fault that causes water to leak into the transmission which causes problems. There has been a recall in the US. I recently bought a pathfinder that was advertised as a 2015 MY15 but turned out to be a 2103 MY14. It complied in 2015 so Nissan registered and sold it as a 2015 MY15 and refused to admit that it was a 2013 MY14 even though it lacked MY15 features. What is your build date?
