Suited to some
I have been to my local NQR a handful of times and I probably won't be returning any time soon. This store is great for the people on a tight budget but thats about it. The store layout is appalling and they have very narrow aisles with high shelves. If you like buying in bulk or items close to expiry dates then this is for you. If not and you like to buy everything in the one store (like me) then this isn't for you. There items change on a regular basis and there is no consistency with this store
Great for budget conscious

Good
The one near us has closed and then another one closed, so there is only one other located pretty far from us. My friend goes to them all the time and she really saves money because she stocks up on general grocery items and she finds them a good value for money. Some of the products may have carton damage or be very close to expiry, but other than that, there is nothing wrong with the products. Overall, a good place to check out and see if there is something that suits your house. Its also good to check out their catalogues for specials.

OK
a small shop that has dicounted foods due to close to expiry date, slightly imperfect packaging, expired, stock over run item..is a great place to begin shopping prior to larger supermarket chains as you can find you save on some items
we have 2 locals stores where you will find some great deals on discontinues, near expiry date, slightly imperfect packaged or expired items. is a small store though and stocked range is limited, ideal to go there prior to other supermarket chains.
watch the dates on products as often they are close to expiry/expired and you may find the taste not as you thought it would be or you dotn get through the product prior to expiry.

they have alot of stuff cheap, alot of variety, there are quite alot of these stores around now so easy to find on enear you
there are alot of products already expired which some items you should not sell expired in my opinion

NQR is not really a supermarket you could do your weekly shop at and its not designed to be that but that have some great specials and it a good idea to visit regularly for cheap snacks, soft drinks etc. They also stock items which have been discontinued so sometimes you will find items that are no longer available at the larger supermarkets. Some of the freezer stock looks a bit old though and you need to check use by date on the fresh food as it is all close to the use by date.
Lots of discounted food especially snack foods.
Use by dates are close to or passed on alot of products.

Bad
nqr is known for selling products a lot cheaper than any other supermarket but if you after quality then this is not the shop for you, they offer a large suppl of cheese yoghurts and creams ect for a very cheap price, but the catch is that they are either out of date or have about a day left before they go out of date,in my opinion i dont think anybody should be able to sell out of date food products
cheap prices on majority of products well named brands available and they are open 7 days w week
everything they basically have to offer if its cheap its just about out of date or is out of date,

I have no problem with this shop. I only buy what I can finish right away. the shop have save us heaps especially when we were having financial difficulties. The secret in shopping here is that you only buy what you needed for the day or so. Your 20$ can go a long way. It can bought you a dozen eggs, bread, baked beans, cheese, tea, milk and sugar. They almost have everything I needed, just dont get carried away and you'll be ok. Always check the date and still if in doubt you can always ask their friendly staff. My favorite shop is NQR Hasting...Read more
s. Check it out yourself, you wont be disappointed. popular brand products like my favorite yogurts, weetbix, arnotts biscuits, softdrinks and many more. Apples by bulk is cheaper, you can have the basics like eggs, milk, bread, etc., frozen vegies and chips. Ice cream for the whole family. Hair and cleaning products and pet foods are a good buy here. only its near use by dates so you have to be alert on their dates. No good nappies though.Similar opinion? Do they have pasta as I feed the poor in the community

Hi Pam, As I said in my review, NQR stands for "not quite right" which means that they deal with "end of line" close to "best by or use date", deleted items, over production and such so you cannot count on them to have a full range at any time. However, they have most things most of the time. They generally have pasta of some sort; we were there today and although we didn't buy any pasta I recall that they had the dry pasta which they have pretty much all of the time, plus some of that very nice filled San Remo ravioli (or similar) in the dairy case. We weren't looking for pasta today so I didn't notice the price - sorry. What we purchased today was minimal but we bought high quality (relatively low fat and relatively high protein) frozen pizzas for $1.99 (440 gram) which is super cheap as an equivalent item in Woolworths or Coles would be $7 or $3.50 or $4.50 on special. Occasionally they have commercial size packs of stuff in the dairy case at amazingly low prices - yoghurt and sauces etc. Given the nature of your interest I suggest that you subscribe to their email which will give you advance notice of their weekly specials so you can review things on line rather than having to make a check in person. There is a nice young bloke named Rick (I think) who is the Manager and two very nice young women (named Sarah and Tina from memory) who are the Shift Managers and perhaps it would be worthwhile for you to introduce yourself to them?
