Marlsieasked

I would like to try Optifast as I am struggling to lose weight. I have a mammalian meat allergy and in particular I am allergic to Alpha-gal. a carbohydrate that is attached to mammalian meat. I can eat all poultry and seafood products. With regards to the protein in Optifast in the whey powder, could you please tell me if it comes from mammal meat or if it is from poultry or seafood.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards
Marlene

Hi Marlene,
I lost 22kg, got rid of my high blood pressure and my fatty liver last year by cutting out sugar and counting carbs not calories. I avoid processed foods. I found these slimming shakes and powders do not work and are certainly not sustainable. Look at low carb receipes for inspiration.
Good luck

Thank you clover for your response. I was tempted to look at the shakes because a friend did so well with them, but you are right, you just need to focus on something that works, like a low carb diet. I do have the recipe books for such a diet.

What can I eat with optifast at night or I drink just optifast shake?

Personally I eat veges/salad for lunch and dinner. I have dinner at 5:30 and it’s normally things like stir fry, roasted veges, mushroom “meat” spag bol using Konjac noodles. Then I have an optifast bar at about 7:30pm as a treat in the night with a cuppa while relaxing. Stops me from wanting to binge/craving food! Hope that helps. Remember it’s MINIMUM 2 cups of salad/veges! And you can use spices and oyster sauce, soy sauce etc!

I’m not sure, without knowing exactly what you’re consuming, that’s a tough one. Maybe something to discuss with your surgeon/dietician?

Can you be on the intensive program longer than 12 weeks

1 answer
Esjaymorgans
Esjaymorgans

I’m sure you’re well on your way with the programme, but unless your health care professional recommends it, it’s unwise to do so. You really need to have 2 different forms of protein in your diet and the optifast products only give you one, so can be bad for your kidneys if you stay on intensive longer than recommended. (That’s my understanding of it after speaking to a professor about the programme). Hope that helps..

What is the difference between Optifast VLCD and Proslim VLCD

Bev, I had a look at the nutritional panel for both and Optifast is much better as far as nutrients go, which is very important when on a VLCD diet. Plus Optifast has more protein in the shakes which helps keep you fuller for longer. Hope this helps.

Skye, I know of other ladies who have thyroid issues and they are doing very well on Optifast. I'd suggest speaking to your doctor first, but Optifast definitely works, and is safe providing you don't have any underlying health issues. The website does say who should not be on Optifast, eg those over 65, pregnant/lactating.

I've done the 1st intensive 12 week programme level and lost 18kg and my BMI is still just over 35, can I continue on the 3 product replacements or should I add in one meal and only 2 products? I really want to continue on 3 products at least for another month or so to get my weight loss to over 20kg before my birthday. I intend to continue on the programme until I reach my goal of 40kg loss.

Hi Debbie. Congratulations on your success! I am in the same boat as you. What did you end up doing?

GoldenRetrieverMum

I've been on intensive for almost 11 months now. You can continue on intensive for longer, but it is recommended that you check with your doctor first. Some people do the next stage Active 2 for 2 weeks to have a break off intensive before going back onto it. I've lost just over 76kg now on Optifast.
