Optimum for Adult Dogs (page 3 of 4)
Small Breed with Chicken, Vegetables & Rice, Light & Healthy with Chicken & Rice (See All)Reviewer Photos & Videos
Gave my 3 shi tzus bad wind problems, kept the visitors away
Unfortunately my dog became very unwell and constipated after consuming this brand of dog food. Very disappointing that it is still on our supermarket shelves
I slowly transitioned my dog to optimum for adult dogs, mixing it with her regular food for just over a week. A couple of days later we woke to the most horrific scene on our back patio. My poor dog had the most explosive (bloody) diarrhoea and vomiting that I have ever witnessed in a dog. We we're were so scared that we were going to lose her. My kids were so scared that they didn't want to leave her to go to school. We could only deduct that it was due to the change in food, so we immediately changed back to her normal food. I am so glad that...
Read more she improved within a few days, thankfully!! I cannot believe that such a prominent vet would premote such a product!! Are these products tested before being sold to the public?? or is it just playing Russian roulette with out beloved family members?

After a recent food allergy that was extreme, we switched foods and we tried this. Usually my dog eats dog meat with a bit of dry mix. He usually leaves the dry mix unless he is starving. Since we got this, he eats it all up and is looking for more. I now give him mostly dry mix and a little meat.

Our Labrador was originally on Eukanuba, but I changed her to Optimum Adult Large Breed about 5 years ago, because the Optimum is about half the price.
I transitioned her from one food to the other over a few days, rather than making a sudden change.
She did fine on the Eukanuba, and is doing fine on the Optimum.
I checked the ingredients in detail, and the calorie and protein details, they all seemed the same. Both dog foods are based on beet pulp, a good source of fibre.
I liked the Eukanuba over other dog food because her poo was firm an...
Read mored easy to pick up from the garden or out on walks. It is the same on the Optimum. (This is probably down to the beet pulp). She likes her food and gobbles it down. The larger pellets are supposed to make them chew, but she just seems to swallow them whole. The last couple of times, the vet has noted plaque build-up on her teeth, and has offered to anaesthetize her and clean them. For $500. I've started giving her daily dental chews, I think this is a safer (and cheaper) option.
I've been feeding my little Kelpie girl OPTIMUM PUPPY food since I got her at 9 weeks. She is now 5 months old.
In the beginning her poo was hard but she always had a lot of gas. As shes getting older and bigger her poo seems to become a bit runny more often but not dramatic. Her gasing though stinks horrible. I cant stand that smell anymore so I will switch to a better premium brand.
Other than that she is the most healthy and energetic pup ever.

I thought this might be a good brand of DOG FOOD i was wrong My pug would not eat it! and he will eat nearly anything, not a fussy eater at all. i bought his usual brand and he ate that OK. I tried to feed him the Optimum a few times HE WOULD GO UP SMELL IT AND JUST WALK AWAY even if i left it all day no way he would eat it .i just threw it out a complete waste of money.
My mini poodle has eaten this for 11 years as a supplement to chicken necks and wings. She has been perfectly healthy all her life and at 11 years of age she still has the energy of a puppy. If I change her diet, she either won't eat it or throws it up. Hence, am very happy with Optimum Adult small breeds and would recommend it to anyone with a small dog. As a puppy she was eating the Optimum Puppy dry food.

I bought 2 100gm foil trays of the Chicken and rice on special for $1 each. I gave my dog a desertspoonful last night (25 cents/25 grams) and today spent $112 at the Vet with a very sick dog. My vet suspected it was the food, as my rescue dog normally eats well and is never sick. This product is recommended by Dr Chris Brown, so I thought I could trust it, but obviously not. I’m going to stick to Supercoat dry food in future as she loves it and it has never made her sick. Be very wary of Optimum. A lot of these mushy/ loaf type dog foods are full of additives.

Recent change to optimum adult dog biscuits - my lab was hospitalised with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and nearly died!! He recovered thanks to the wonderful emergency veterinary care. A week of home cooked food than back on optimum dog biscuits as directed. 5 days later my lab presented again with all the same symptoms as hemorrhagic gastroenteritis thankfully we caught it early and only required a day of veterinary care not 3. Although I can't 100% say the dog food brand is the culprit everything points to it. A pet owner all my life I have never experienced anything like it - our beautiful boy is home however still recovering and will only be served home cooked meals moving forward. I know what goes into those...

My dog was getting increasingly bloated and gaseous until, after researching dog foods, I realized what was wrong - Optimum +7! Celebrities should be more ethical in choosing products to endorse!

Discerning dog lovers always want to know which is the healthiest food product on the shelf to buy! With Optimum Grainfree dry formulation, manufacturers have finally turned the corner towards producing what our pooches' physiologies dictate. They works on a logical premise that, in the wild, dogs eat very few carbohydrates, relying on what they can kill or scrounge. Scarily, it has been suggested by researchers that a dog's diet consisting of excessive amounts of carbohydrate over a prolonged period can, in fact, lead to the dog developing ...
Read morecancers. Optimum Grainfree boasts one of the highest ratios of Protein (35%)/Fats (13%)/Moisture (9%)/Linoleic Acid (Omega 6)(2.5%)/Other vitamins versus the remaining carbohydrate component in the form of vegetables(approx. 40%). Add to this the fact that ingredients are listed in order of content volume, it speaks well for Optimum Grainfree that poultry, then poultry by-products are listed first, followed by vegetables, vitamins and minerals. Lastly, the manufacturers increase the credibility of their product when they admit that 'research shows that the feeding a mix of both wet and dry products has a broad range of health benefits' for your dog. At last a product, that challenges other brands on the shelves to get it right!- 2 reviews

We have been using this Optimum for over 11 years for our standard schnauzer. She loves it and she is really fussy girl.

My dog has been eating it for years and also hasn't suffered from any problems that some owners have reported. Spoke to vet re product advised no problems, the product is also recommended by vet Chris Brown.
Bought this food as we had run out of our normal dog dry food. What a mistake this was. We have had one dog on a drip for 2 nights at the vet with vomiting and diarrhoea and now the other dog has constant diarrhoea which has blood in it. Avoid this dog food at all costs. My dogs have NEVER been so sick.

has made my girl really sick and she has lost alot of weight and has constant diarrhea. just switched to vip petfoods natures goodness grain free plus nutrition and she is a different dog.
My dog loves his food but not the Optimum for Adults. It has made him sick and poo is sloppy. But as soon as the optimum is put out the Blowflies are right there on the food.

Our dog ate it once out of a new bag and became terribly ill for four days and would not eat anything. He refused to eat any of this food subsequently. Don't buy this food. We advised the manufacturer and sent the food back to them. They did not provide a refund or any apology.
My dog suffered bad stomach pain and diarrehea, I bought 4 bags for $36.00 each and should be REFUNDED and so should everyone else.
DONT BUY IT
I have a rotty x (11yrs) and a staffy X (2 yrs) i bought it as a large bag to try as it was on special from petstock. i normally get supercoat and they said it was pretty much the same just less salt.... every night they'd take forever to eat leaving loads in their bowls or sniff it and walk off. I personally will never recommend it or buy it again it also made their feseas black and hard
My Miniature Schnauzer loves this food but I have recently seen comments about Schnauzers should not be having any grain in their food. I looked at the pack and see that Optimum has grain in it. Don't know what to do.

My 2 dogs hate this product and flat out refuse to eat it. Even when I leave it overnight and they are really hungry, they still won't touch it the following morning.
I purchased it based on the fact it's endorsed by a vet and there were positive reviews from people who have purchased it.
When I offered it to friends with dogs they told me their dogs didn't like it either.
I bought 2 x 7kg bags of this stuff so I've just blown $56. Needless to say, I am totally ticked off.
