308 T7 (2008-2013)

I am considering buying a 2010 Peugeot 308 XSE Turbo T7 6-speed Manual. Car looks great, drives well and has around 50,000 kms on the clock. Car will be used around town mainly, but with the odd long distance trip. Would really appreciate feedback from anyone who has the same year/model. Will be fully checked by a mechanic I trust before I purchase.

I am thinking of buying a 2012 308 wagon, it's is the 1.6 turbo petrol model, seems to be a great car, does anyone have one ? It has 90 000 K on it, any real problems with this model ?

I used to have one, however, please read the serivce manual before you buy, unless you are a mechanic yourself.

Look elsewhere. Poor engine design leading to timing chain problems, leaking oil supply line to the turbo and myriad check engine light problems. Brake pads are made of cardboard and rotors are very soft something-or-other. You'll pay nearly $650 just to get the rears done.

Unfortunately I purchased the car, nothing but trouble, new timing belt, new heater, now front end is rattling, I traded it in, losing around $4000, anyways at least it's not my problem anymore, I will never buy another Peugeot .

If it's still under warranty, get them to replace it. Shouldn't happen.

It's not under warranty. Apparently it is the seam around the air pillow which is not good. Peugeot dealer has taken a photo & sent it to Manufacturer. Awaiting response.

Does anyone have any concerns with the limited position of front seats on the current 308 as we are told that we are the only complaint Peugeot have had? There is no leaver to position the rake to more of a horizontal position for the bottom section of the actual seat.

308 T9 (2014-2020)

Has anyone had gearbox, clutch or eco function problems with the 2015 Peugeot 308? My 2015 Peugeot 308 has had serious recurring problems. It has needed gearbox replacement at 2,500 k, and clutch replacement at 6,000K. Added to this, in its first 2 months the clutch failed while crossing a major big city intersection. There also appear to be problems with the eco function kicking in. Despite these recurring major problems Peugeot have refused to replace the vehicle. Regrettably, Peugeot no longer produce the reliable cars.

No, I just got my car on 31st August. I did some research before buying T9, it is using Aisin EAT6 gearbox, it is commonly use in other models like SAAB Aero or Volvo S60, always thought the gearbox for T9 should be the last to fail. In your case really worry me on my gearbox too!

Yes they can, but seriously if you are looking for a convenient car for your family look elsewhere. One of my biggest regrets buying this car.... major design faults. We went to mechanic 17 times in 3 years when the car was new, so if you see one secondhand you really don't know what your getting. We ended up getting thousands in repairs from the Peugeot company after we took them to fair trading, then went straight out and sold it as quick as we could before something else went wrong. But it was a stressful battle. You'll get nothing if it is second hand. Beautifully designed interiors (that was what attracted us) but won't get you from A to B so don't buy unless you are a Peugeot mechanic and buying it for a hobby.

The auto may be ok but the new manual 308 I bought last July has proven unreliable and mechanically poor. After less than 3,000 k the gear box had to be replaced after it broke down completely. Before that it failed while crossing a major big city intersection. Since then after the long wait for the new gear box to arrive from France it has had another major breakdown (without any warning) at another busy intersection that nearly caused an accident and has had to have a clutch replacement. This should be a factory recall but Peugeot have refused to replace the vehicle. It regrettably appears that Peugeot no longer produce the good quality cars they were once known for (My last vehicle, for example, also a manual Peugeot 306 lasted well for 18 years, so it is with regret that I feel I have to warn others so they do not suffer the inconvenience and potential danger to life that I have from such a faulty model. Every time I think about getting in the car again, it is with extreme trepidation. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi, I recently acquired the 308 Touring Allure Premium with all leather seat option - overall, a great car. One thing I noticed is on the Peugeot website the head rests in the front are leather (matching the seats), yet mine was delivered with cloth head rests. Seems to be a misdescription - curious whether what the experience has been of others who have gone with the full leather option?

Hi Willoughby, all headrests on my XSE Wagon were leather. Keep in mind though, that I had the model previous to yours so not sure if interior specs changed from one model to the next. Cheers, Doc.

Can't help directly as my model later.
Check (Google) car reviews and list of defects, issues that are known. Any cars can have some issues but all cars don't have issues, just some.
Check ownership, accident history (look for paint on rubbers, trim etc), service history.
When serious then advise reputable mechanic to look at.

Tim
Tim

I have listed the issues that affected me. Get it checked by a reputable mechanic. One thing I did not mention in my report was when my 2010 Peugeot 308 turbo lost power and the engine reverted to idle, no matter what I did with the accelerator pedal. Because it was not an issue I could replicate on demand the Peugeot dealer was never able to fix this. I would get going again by turning the engine off, waiting and then turning it back on again. Not always convenient or possible. You are probably looking at a very attractive car and thinking the price is great.

dei

I've had the same problems as Tim plus more. Now the fabric around the air pillow is splitting which should not happen. I would never buy another Peugeot!

Are left hand indicators OK?
Also do the right hand indicators work when you put the hazard lights on?
If all indicators work when Hazard button pressed, I'd suspect indicator stalk, or maybe electronic bus system needs a reset...and
off the top of my head not sure how to do this. Disconnecting the battery may be a last resort but could require access/security code for radio to work???

It could be a snapped wire somewhere or something like that / perhaps the Peugeot Australia workshop or a auto electrician shop might be able to help you

The short answer is yes, a really nice car to drive I have the 2013sportium 2 ltr diesel...excellent fuel economy...6 speed auto...leather, comfortable.....
The5 year capped servicing looks attractive. I have done 11000kms I and very happy.
First peugot I have ever owned but it feels like a big car in terms of spaciousness.
Handles well

I have a 2008 2lt HDi manual. I love driving it around town as the torquey engine is a joy. On the open road it lopes along in sixth gear doing about 1750rpm/100kmh. Fuel economy ranges on average about 5ltrs/100kmh...but I do drive how I love to drive..not with economy in mind. My car has done 145,0000ks. Service intervals are 20000klm/12months.
Worth the money?? very subjective question. Nice the drive, comfortable, different to common Asian fare. A test drive convinced me to buy mine.

Hi we need a second car, we are looking to a 2008 Peugeot 308 XSE Sports Automatic, Someone told us, never by one because they are not made for this heat. We are from Europe, and drove a Peugeot over there, Not sure what to do? Read good and less good stories here....

Hi Amber, I've heard similar stories, but to be honest, I don't think it's the heat. My husband is from the south of France where it gets just as hot (if not hotter) than here in Brisbane. I think the main problem is that if things do go wrong, which can happen with any car, they don't know how to fix them in Australia. After a couple of years of ongoing problems with mine, I actually asked a mechanic in France and he knew straight away what it was - he said it is a known fault in some 308CCs. But Peugeot in Australia not only took 2 years to work it out, but wouldn't admit to it being a known fault. I absolutely loved my Peugeot - when it was running properly - but replacing the turbo charger twice in two years is ridiculous. But I know quite a few Peugeot owners here who have never had a problem. If it was me though, I would be asking to see the full service record and details of any mechanical repairs ... Good luck!

I can't help you with that age vehicle, but I can tell you to check any recalls for that vehicle in Australia and make sure that they have all been done. As my car is still under warranty I had to go through the dealer and they are not to keen to do warranty work. However, as soon as I engaged consumer affairs I was treated like a platinum customer. Mazda was the same. The peugeot dealerships seem to know what they are doing. Make some enquiries with a local dealer and see what there response is. Good luck.

I have only had my 2014 308 (not the 3008) and luv it. I have not had any problems so far. Peugeot has really improved on reliability of the years and will continue to do so, in order to compete in such a competitive market. I say get a mechanic to look at the car and take the chance.

I have just bought a Peugeot 308 XS HDI Touring Wagon. The seller (in Sydney, I reside in Geelong) had advertised the car as a 2009 model. And my bill of sale states that I have purchased a 2009 Peugeot 308 XS HDI Touring Wagon but on checking the car when I received it, I found two service receipts stating the car is a 2008 308 XS HDI Touring Wagon...NOT a 2009 as I was led to believe :(
I have searched for a compliance plate on the car to try and find out if my new-to-me Peugeot is a 2008 or a 2009 model but I can not find any plate! As this is my first Peugeot, perhaps I'm looking for the plate in the wrong place (the engine bay?) Can anyone on this site inform me...How do I know if my 308 is a 2008 or a 2009 model and where would I find the compliance plate?
Thanking you in advance for any advice.

My 2008 308hdi has the six speed auto (with adjustments for snow and sport). It is a reasonable unit with good changes and only slight clonking on takeoff. Peugeots have not had specially distinguished automatics but seem to have got there act together recently.
