Best car i have ever owned
This is my 4th Peugeot having 2 307s, 1 308 but the 508 is by far the best ever, what you get for the money is amazing, excellent performance, comfort and amazing economy from the 2 ltr Diesel, still finding things it can do, would suggest people test drive one might get a big surprise, highly recommended, all my Peugeot's have be totally reliable, no problems with the electrics as some people say they have had with any of the 4 cars, the sat nav has proved very accurate only can't put in way points that i can see but gets me right to the door, unfortunately did a tyre at 4000 klms cos $289.00 (full price $369.00) i have the optional 18 inch rims and the ride on these 45 profiles surprised me just how good it is.

Peugeot 508 GT - A Winner on the Highway
I bought this sedan after the first owner had used for 1.5 years and done 22000km. 2/3 of my use is driving on freeways. For this purpose it is proving to be an absolute winner.
3 things I like most about the car,
1) Fuel consumption of this car on the highway is astonishing. I fill the tank in Melbourne, drive all the way to Sydney and then do town running for a week and still have about 20% left before I fill diesel for the return trip. This is with a 2.2L turbo diesel engine that is quite powerful and very adequate for highway du...Read more
ties. 2) Car is very spacious and quite comfortable even for adults sitting behind. We do 2 couple weekend trips and this is very comfortable for all. Boot space is great too and helps when picking up people from the airport. 3) This is subjective but both the exterior and interior design are very nice. Mine is black with very nice leather seats and 2 exhausts at the back. This provides a premium feeling and it is very good value for the price I paid.3 comments
Done 81000km and going well. Had a minor issue of rear window cable snapping that cost $100 to fix. Otherwise it is going well. Front brakes are still the originals but need be replaced soon.

is now almost 5 years old and from what I hear Peugeot started their new quality control program in 2010 with the new 508 and hope that makes a difference.
Done 93000km and going well. Rear window cable snapped on the other side as well and cost $100 but otherwise going well. Fuel system cleanup during 100k service was very helpful.

Great car until the electrics go haywire
Got this car a couple of months ago and the first few weeks were lovely. It is comfortable and drives nice. The 1.6 petrol is surprisingly good. Then the electrics went haywire. kept resetting and lighting up the STOP and Service lights. Resets the clock, climate control and alarmingly the cruise control switches off. Took it back to the dealers Allpike peugot and they had to escalate it to France. Its been two weeks and still no diagnosis. Given me an inferior car to drive in the meantime. Called Peugeot Australia that were quick to t...Read more
ell me that they have no provision for loan cars and it is up to the dealer whether they will even give you one. This is on a two month old car! Don't expect any support from head office as their policy is that they don't do loan cars. I have no idea what is wrong with the car and how long before I will have it back. Neither does France apparently. I have spoken to others about Peugot as I manage a fleet and they have reported similar problems with service from Peugeot, especially the time it takes. Beware of buying one - they are a nice car but highly prone to be troublesome and remember that the dealer is on their own with little support from the few staff in head office. Comfortable, well equipped and stylish Sta Nav is next to useless and out of date - I have put my Garmin in. Cup holders poor. Storage minimal for such a big car.1 comment
They do do loan cars. Threaten media complaint and cutting off monthly finance payment and a HERTZ rent-a-car materialises within 90 minutes. I even know who to call at Peugeot Australia if you or others need to escalate.

Peugeot 508 2L turbo-diesel sedan 2012
Very close to the perfect vehicle.. Almost everything in my July 2012 Peugeot 508 shouts quality. Spectacular pulling power with four adults (or a family of five). Good town and highway car. Cavernous boot. Sumptuous, comfortable leather seats. Great in-car storage options. Very adjustable driver and passenger positions. Brilliant sound/telephony options. On-board USB ports, charger ports, etc. Lovely range of automated "toys" - wipers, lights, air-conditioning. Outdoor proximity sensors brilliant for tight places. Parking sensors (on both side...Read more
s) are a dream. Would give it four and a half stars in a flash but a couple of annoying things for the manufacturer to fix before it's up for five stars. Almost everything. My favourite thing is the comfort, the road holding, the in-built safety, the driver toys. Most of all I love the outstanding economy. Two return trips Newcastle-Gold Coast without refilling the 70L diesel tank until the last 50-100km. Outstanding economy on the highway and around town at the speed limit. 1. The sat-nav is not accurate enough and Peugeot chose an appalling third party company to manage/oversee it. 2. The glove box is next to useless. Barely anything "normal" fits in it. 3. The drink/cup holders are a joke. They only fit things with the same diameter as a standard soft-drink can. Also, one cannot manage the sat-nav, stereo or telephony screen while cans of drink are in the holders as the view of the screen is blocked.5 comments
I concur with you 100% regarding the cup holders. Totally stupid, and the glove box is tiny. If I had of noticed this prior to purchase I would reconsider. Sounds trivial, but if you drive a lot, it counts.
There's pouches, pockets and space everywhere but, oh - what a waste of time putting a lid on that glovebox.
My biggest upset is the useless sat-nav - spoils a great car's usability a lot.

We test drove the 508 and were impressed with the interior and exterior styling but found the winged sides to the seats terribly uncomfortable. I wanted to get out after 15 minutes in the car.

Excellent car with heaps of features.
I bought this car in the Allure HDi 2.0l diesel form on 24/11/2012 and have since rolled of 1200 Km's without a single problem.
The engine is a little bit doughy on initial take off and changes to 2nd gear at relatively low revs (1500) but then will hold on in other gears till approx 4000 revs.
The Turbo kicks in very well and gives it a shove in the back once it reaches approx 1800 revs and then proceeds without any effort, but with good urgency, to the speed limit you want to achieve. The only concern is that under relative high acceler...Read more
ation then when you get to the required limit (say 80Km/h) then it will hold in gear thinking you still want to accelerate. The car comes with a full complement of safety items, 6 airbags, ABS, Traction control, EBD, seat belt warnings, door ajar warnings and even more. It has an electric automatic parking brake that comes on automatically when the car is switched off and put in park. It then stays on when the car is started and put into gear, only releasing when the accelerator is pushed. The car I purchased had the factory fitted sat nav (without the HUD) and it gives a better interface for the operation of the car's entertainment and Bluetooth phone system. I would recommend it to anyone buying this car. The steering is handled by an electric connection which does leave some vagueness after years of hydraulic power steering but is easy to get to grips with and once used to it gives good feedback to where the front wheels want you to go. Under steer is there but only just when pushing hard into a tight corner such as a roundabout.3 comments
A most comprehensive review. Well done. Thanks.
Update.
have now had the car for 5 months and still enjoy it after 5000 km.
It constantly uses 6.5l/100km used both on long country drives and short hops to the local shops. Quiet and still no issues of any concern.... Read more

508 has a common problem
Gearbox
Took it gearbox solutions
They want 3 k to fix
Peugeot tell you the gearbox is not to be serviced for lifetime of car .
After sipping on traffic lights car doesn’t move on take off, while you are revving to get going ; a big sudden bang happens moving the car by surprise giving it a big jerk that scares you .
Never again !!!!!!!

Take it to a good automatic specialist and change the oil. That fixes my 307 auto box. Peugeot does not make good gear boxes if ZF is fitted like some of the Citroens, you can feel the difference.

This is my first time that I'm interested in Peugeot brand. I'm interested in 2012 Peugeot 508 allure auto. it's one-owner car, and has 68691kms. I'm a bit skeptical about the price which is $17600. I'm afraid if the car will break down often in the future. I mainly driving on highway, not often to drive in city. I would like to know about Peugeot reliability, maintenance cost and resale value. Any insights? I really want the car but the price is little bit dodgy.

I have been offered 2013 508 Allure that has done 39,000k. Im upgrading from 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrid (110,000 km). The 508 has had only one (old lady) owner and appears to be well looked after with all service history available. Just concerned about "European" cars and some of the issues raised in the reviews. Could someone please allay my fears

Hi Joe
I’m really happy with mine. If I was offered one with those low k’s I’d go for it for sure! If you keep in mind that every car needs servicing & Looking after I think you will be won over to the European side like I was!! Bonus is they are really fuel efficient cars aswell.
Thanks, Nin, this is helpful
If it is a diesel, grab it. If it is a petrol, factor in the possibility of spending a bit on the timing chain (do your homework here). I have a 508 GT diesel and have driven a few Allures both petrol and diesel. Absolutely brilliant value vehicles. Excellent build quality. Not dirty like VW diesels. The only glitches you should expect will be in the electrics. For some reason the country who gave us the 'Amp' unit of electrical measure don't seem to grasp modern electronics, but the possible trade off is worth it. You are unlikley to ever go back to a Camry.
