with the smell it has now I would not use it. Used it all the time once but now will not go there again the last one of the original I bought was awful

Good question John, Iused this all the time once but the smell now is not a clean smell but almost toxic, gets up nose and in mouth

There is no one common cold virus, it's a group of many different viruses that cause similar respiratory illness. That's also why the symptoms can vary a lot with one cold having more of a cough, or one being more congestion for example. Due to the mildness of the common cold, the sheer number of different viruses that can cause it, and the great financial cost of developing a vaccine, there's very little incentive for someone to develop such a vaccine even if it was possible to target many kinds of common cold viruses within one vaccine.

That's just why there is no vaccine though, as for you asking why glen 20 isn't used as a vaccine...well, that's rather simple. It can't be a vaccine because that's not what a vaccine is or how it works. Vaccines are attenuated live, or dead bacteria/viruses, or components of them in a formula that stimulates the immune system to recognise the pathogen as foreign and dangerous. That way if you get the real thing, your immune system already knows what to do with it and destroys it before it can multiply in your body and cause illness.

Glen 20 is ethanol. Ethanol and other alcohols kill bacteria and viruses by denaturing them. Cells get torn apart, proteins are destroyed. It's a physical process that happens when the alcohol contacts the pathogen and we've used alcohols to sanitise things for hundreds of years now. Completely different results if you introduce it into the body though, it'd be like trying to use vodka as a treatment for the cold. Might make you feel better about the symptoms in a sense, but it'll do nothing to the virus.
