11 day cruise to PNG
My wife and I booked our first ever cruise with Sun Princess to Papua New Guinea,
I read all the reviews about a week before we sailed but we went anyway.. lol
We found EVERYTHING to be first rate.. excellent in fact !
The food was to die for, we have never eaten such wonderfully prepared and presented food in our lives.
The staff were very attentive and obliging .. nothing was a bother.
The inside cabin we booked because it was cheaper turned out to be a real surprise ..
I don't sleep well as a rule but because it had no windows we found...Read more

Amazing staff
My friend and I had just boarded the ship, when she became very ill. The staff responded quickly and after the medical staff checked her out, she was soon placed in an ambulance on her way to a Brisbane hospital. The security staff looked after me while I waited for family. I cannot speak highly enough of the kindness and efficiency of the crew and staff. Thankyou Princess from the bottom of my heart.

Extremely dissapointed
We have been booked on Sun Princess since March 2016 in a balcony cabin yesterday we were offered an ocean view cabin plus a discount. I have reached ruby level and my companion has platinum if we had wanted an ocean view we would have booked it in the first place. If this is the best they can do we will not be cruising with princess again. Needless to say we declined the offer.

Never again
Ship far too old many people on board became ill with gastro virus myself included. Walking down the passage ways to cabins the smell was disgusting, food not up to other princess ships. This ship needs to be taken out of service. New Zealand cruise February 2017.

This was the worst ship
January 2017, toilet would block up 4 times a day took hours to fix, so I ended up getting the virius toilet blocked they knew I was sick took 5 hours to unblock the toilet so I had to sit in the shower in my own filth. Rang up to complain they did not care same all the same if you know what I mean. The bar staff were rude you would get a drink and they would throw the straw down next to it. It cost four hundred dollars to see the doctor when we asked about comp they said no way. They are like talking to a bunch off philli telemarkerters I had...Read more
to get a wheel chair off the ship when the zapped my cruise card the ship person yelled out he is sick get rid of him how rude 0 stars for me new guinea was nice and the people lovely but the ship crap and I and a chef and the food was the worst I have had on 7 cruises I have been I asked for a stake and I got a thin piece of sliced beef. Avoid this ship like the plague. I hope Jan Swartz president of princess cruises reads these reviews.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The most disgusting cruise ship we have been on
Booked a disabled ròom which was not accessible by wheelchair.. had a rounded pole in the door entry.
Disabled seating at the theatre was non exhistant - not regulated by staff.
Wheelchairs had to go over very high access to go onto the decks if they could get there at all.
Complaints were ignored by Guest Services.
Very old tired ship. Cabin and restaurant staff were exceptional but complaints were ignored and disabled people were left to sink or swim..
Destination was fantastic ship was crap.
We c wouldnt recommend anyonecto sail with Princess Cruise lines as management ignores complaints and issues.

Disappointed after previous cruise
Very disappointed with our cruise to South East Asia and return to Fremantle in Nov /Dec 2015. We had cruised with Princess before on Sea Princess to New Zealand, excellent. Our South East Asia on Sun Princess was very under whelming. Ship was so dated. A large number of problems on this cruise made us complain on our Customer service survey sent to us after cruise, but we did not even get a reply on this. We may never use the Princess Line again we were so disappointed, and we had previously been looking at taking a half world cruise with them, Sydney to Dover. Will try another line. Everyone that we had contact with on that cruise was disappointed and some had sailed on many cruises and said that that was the worst cruise.

Princess - Losing the Magic ??
We traveled on Sun Princess earlier this year, not long after a refurb had been carried out. We sailed from Fremantle to Brisbane via the top of Australia. We have cruised many times & always found Princess to be one of the better cruise lines. However, we found the on board experience underwhelming compared to other cruises.
We look forward to daytime activities on board & generally there are lots of options. This cruise we struggled to find something to do. I don't consider an AA meeting something that would be considered a general activit...Read more

Princess Cruises rip off trusting customers
They were happy to sell us a cruise and then before we left Visa requirement changed and we no longer had to pay but princess cruise decided to Cash in on the Aussie advantage and keep the $25 entry fees to Indonesia as a process fee to get free entry. Absolutely disgusted and will never cruise again!! Will be letting others know too. Cruise may seem cheap and good idea but once onboard watch how much is extra and over priced.

wow fantastic
we sailed on pacific jewel last year and that was bloody shocking, but people were saying you need to try princess cruises out before you say you would never cruise again .
so we booked to go on sun princess to singapoore 23 feb, we got there and the boarding was chaos, so i thought here we go again, but that was the only drama we had, the ship was in good condition yes there was some rusty bits but its sailing on the ocean so what do you expect . the staff was fantastic always friendy we never felt like we were intruding on there cruise (pac...Read more

What a waste of money
I cruised the Sun Princess 4 January till 8 January out of Fremantle to Albany. We payed thousands of for the owers suite. The first day we were to cruise at 5pm but was cancelled till the next day till 7am. We were not contacted about the boat not leaving till the next day. We slept in our cabin while the boat was tied to the wharf. The food was ordinary, paint fumes while in our cabin. I will never cruise with them again.

Elite Review
Oct 28 on Sun Princess 7 nights to south pacific.
I booked this at a whim it was only $799. I'm elite with princess and I love reading the reviews. Sewer smells broken furniture, laundry out of order, stains on sheet, blocked toilets, inedible food, terrible service I can go on and on.
Anyway I didn't experience any of the above.
We flew from Melbourne 10 to 15 minutes after arriving at Brisbane, we were at Hamilton and boarded in 10 minutes got an inside cabin it was ok clean my free mini bar was already there and so were upgraded toiletrie...Read more

Very enjoyable - friendly fellow cruisers and excellent staff
Sun Princess October 25th Brisbane to Fremantle. Because of novo virus on ship coming from New Zealand embarkation was 1 hour later than planned, but we were informed several days earlier so no problem. Embarkation smooth and efficient. First 4 days, every surface, and I mean every surface was cleaned as had happened, we were told by deck attendants, for the previous 10 days. Not allowed to serve ourselves in Horizon for 4 days but plenty of staff to compensate. Even though we heard of a few accidents and a heart attack (the average age of crui...Read more
sers must have been 70 years+)!!! No sickness on board so better than usual. We had seen several of the shows on the Alaska cruise in 2014 and New Zealand 2013 which was disappointing but the comics and other personalities were an acceptable alternative. We joined our dining table companions on the first night and again were extremely lucky to be able to enjoy each evening in their company served by an excellent waiter and wine waiter when nothing was too much trouble. We were blessed with beautiful weather, sailaways were spectacular accompanied by Cherry Blossoms and piña coladas!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
This was as bad as it can get. Sun-Princess Jul.14 to Aug.18 2015
I agree with nearly all the comments made by A.W. Pratt on Aug, 28, 2015 "First but definitely last cruise" Specially the comments on TV. More than 90% of People came from Australia, yet no Australian News. How ignorant is that?
I also agree with the comments made by Adrian R. Clifford on Aug, 20, 2015 "Dreadful cruise from hell" The comments on sickness maybe are a bit light on. It was a lot worse The charges for Doctor, Medicine and Hospital are over the Top like any thing else on the Ship. My wife is still sick (Aug. 29. 2015) and under the care of a Doctor.
However, we are coming back for more on the Diamond Princess in Dec.2015. Lets see how we go that time. It is taking me a lot of convincing for my wife to come back.

First time cruisers with Sun Princess.
My husband and I cruised for the 1st time for 14 days to the South Pacific in June/July 2015. We were told that the Sun Princess was one of the older ships in their line so we did not expect The Queen Mary. We found the food in the buffet to be wonderful - we went there every night except two. We had dinner one night in the Sterling Steakhouse as we were told that the steaks were wonderful, unfortunately mine was very tough and unenjoyable. The only real complaint that I have about our room was that we could not turn our air conditioning down s...Read more
o we were quite cold at night. I am really amazed at how other passengers complained about the age of some of the passengers. What are you going to do except perhaps your home work about cruises. Even the over 70's deserve a life as well (I am 65 and my husband is 66). They weren't a problem at all and you just have to learn that they have every right to a cruise as much as younger people. The cost of on-shore excursions were also mentioned but my husband and I travel extensively throughout Australia in our caravan and have found that most places in Australia (not just remote parts) are VERY expensive but you just have to pay for it or not go anywhere. All in all I think that The Sun Princess was pretty good but it does depend on what the individual expects and some people are hard to please.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Dreadful cruise from hell!
A review of my recent cruise with Princess Cruises.
To the cruise director and any other interested person associated with the Princess cruise line.
You requested information on my experience travelling on the Sun Princess embarking and disembarking from Sydney and sailing the South Pacific over a 35 day period, from 14th. July to 18th. August.
As a seasoned traveller over a number of years and with several trips under my belt including a trip on the Dawn Princess and on the P & O. Aurora, without fear of contradiction, this has been the...Read more
worse cruise trip I have ever had the misfortune to take and indeed, although you have raised our status to “Platinum” I will never, ever use your cruise line again. Indeed the entire cruise industry needs a total overhaul of its principles and the duty of care it owes to the paying passengers. I am more than happy to discuss what I consider to be positive changes needed to improve what is currently a flawed system and certainly not in line with your credo of “Come back New”. That is a joke!!! Let me start by outlining the good points, after all it wasn’t all bad, only 95% was below par.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Probably wont cruise again - Sun Princess
The beginning of our cruise to New Zealand started off well. The crew are lovely, professional and polite. The entertainment was somewhat boring and repetitive. Our last port was closed due to the cyclone which is understandable and the Captain headed for Sydney, however we arrived very late. Granted the weather on one of those days and nights was not good and the seas were high, but with an extra day up your sleeve you would think that you could time it a bit better. We were due to get off the boat at 7.55am on the Thursday morning, the announ...Read more
cement came into our rooms that due to the late arrival, passengers are able to stay in their rooms until 8.30am. The air conditioning was turned off at 7.45am, if you did not have a balcony it would have been impossible to stay in your room. There were a lot of elderly people on the boat and for the nearly 3 hour delay in disembarking, there was not water bought around to ensure that they had fluids. If you finalised your account the night previously you were unable to purchase any food or drink. We purchased art on the boat from the Park West Gallery, were told that it would be shipped to us in up to 6 weeks. The art arrived in a flat box, not a cylinder. Pictures looked as if they had been torn out of their frames. There were creases from being flattened where the print had rubbed off and the white paper was showing through. The creases were on all four pieces and it will be very difficult to miss them once framed. There were water stains on the back of the pieces and some edges looked as if they had been ripped out of the frame on the boat. I emailed the gallery on the site at the bottom of their letter head and received no reply. Disappointing in the extreme. I found the food on the boat really good and when asked they catered to gluten free. The staff have impeccable manners and this is the one saving grace of the whole cruise. The pillows in the cabins were so hard that comfort was a long and distant dream. We were on deck 10 with a balcony and sometimes in the night the air conditioning smelled like it was near a sewer. My other huge and I feel valid complaint is the need to buy bottled water. There should be refill stations around the boat to enable you to refill your water bottle.Similar opinion? Sun Princess
My wife and I just did 13 nts to NZ on the Sun Princess. The cruise and tours were quite enjoyable no real problems there. If you like really boring tasteless food this is the cruise for you. We and another couple stopped dining in the formal dining room as it was so bad and opted for the buffet which was fairly ordinary but edible. There should be more Asian food which is what most people eat in Australia these days. You can have a roast at home anytime Asian food is much lighter to.I really got sick of the stodgy food on offer. The entertainm...Read more
ent was ok but not great. I'm 65 my wife is 70 years young and it felt like a floating nursing home/RSL club Trivia Carpet bowls please is this living. Not to mention the music that't pumped through the ship some of us haved moved on from Elvis Tom Jones and The Beatles. If it wasn't for the fact we met a lovely couple from Perth it would have been a disaster. A few people we talked to had been on this ship before and commented on how the food had gone downhill. Shame it was our first cruise but were told not to judge cruising by this one. If there is a next time we will probably do a Mediterranean Cruise.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

"Come back new (stressed)"
My partner and I returned from a cruise around the south pacific on the sun princess a week ago. It was lovely and we had a wonderful time! Unfortunately when we arrived home the holiday stop there. Whilst on the ship the money we spent on board was charged to my debit master card that I was told I had to provide, however was placed in pending status, rather than just being charged. We were unaware this happened however we were fine with them charging it each day. Once we returned to Sydney, the entire bill was then charged to my card, this tim...Read more
e not in pending status but infact already taken. When I enquired about this I was told that 7 days after each pending transaction the money would be taken off this pending status (meaning that it was being held for princess) and would be released back into my account. After several phone calls between my bank and princess (to which neither helped in the slightest regard) the transactions still haven't been released. It is very frustrating. Princess' slogan is to "come back new" when infact I have come back stressed. Is this the same for other cruise lines such as PO cruise or carnival?Similar opinion? Does sun princess still have happy hour?
4 answers
Hi Ness, Did you mean the Sea Princess? as this is ship we went on. If you did then no. They didn't advertise it and all of the bars we went to there was no sign of a happy hour, cheers Craig
Neither the Sun nor the Sea Princess have a happy hour anymore. Just another one of the pleasures they stopped
Thankyou I did mean sun princess shame is there a way to pay six back of beers before sailing and we’re you able to take a bottle of wine on ?

We have a hold until 14/11/19 on a Sun Princess cruise departing in October.
Our booking detail has in small print 'Queen Bed Will BE Against Wallbeds NO Convert IF Uppers Use'.
What does this mean?? Anyone know who can let me know before I have to pay. Thanks
2 answers
Sorry, have no idea what that one means!! Usually you can have the double/queen bed converted into two singles if required, but don't know what "Uppers" are
It means you must use the bed as a queen and not split it into two single beds if you happen to have a third person staying in the cabin. Ie: fine to stay as a queen or have it reconfigured into two separate beds if there's just two people, but if you need to accommodate a third person in the cabin in an upper bed (pull down from wall/ceiling), then you have no choice but to leave the main bed as a queen and snuggle with your cabin mate
**Just re-read - it might actually mean the other way around. Best just to give them a call and ask
