Quantum Heat Pump now out the dump!
Hello,
I have just returned from taking my 6 year old Quantum 250L heat pump to the dump. I have replaced it with a bog standard electric hot water heater and couldn't be happier. It will be only slightly more expensive to run than the heat pump once I switch it to off peak (controlled load 1).
These heat pumps are touted to be cheaper and better for the environment. But they aren't that much cheaper to run. Cheaper for me is calculated by original cost price, minus running costs, minus repairs. This heat pump was rusting out, we had to pa...Read more
y for a off peak meter board switch to reduce running costs, and now it's died and no a/c tech in our area will touch it. As for the environment, what about the cost to the environment of making it then having to recycle/destroy it only a few years later? These heat pumps are basically small, noisy air conditioners. They run for 3-6hrs per day, every day. That's about 1000-2000hrs a year. With so many moving parts, gas joins and electircal wiring out in the Australian elements it's no wonder they aren't lasting long. I join with the host of other consumers who sadly but with a sense of relief, farewell the failed, flawed and finished heat pump.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Do NOT buy a heat pump -Too Noisy
The Quantum heat pump is extremely, extremely noisy. We now have to spend $4,000 on a gas system because the Quantum system wakes our young family and neighbours up. I do not why ethically Quantum can sell them without disclosing how much noise pollution they provide. I urge anyone to avoid considering a Quantum heat pump.
too noisy

Hi Roger, the Quantum's are the quietest on the market (depending on the model). there is also a baffle that can be used to further reduce noise. if it's as noisy as you state there may be some issue with the fan - if it's new warranty may cover it
I have a very noisy Quantam heat pump and the company employee came out and said that the noise level is loud because it is between two buildings and said that there is nothing wrong with the unit. A... Read more
lso the plumber Quantam sent out did not install it correctly so I had to pay another plumber to move it onto a concrete slab and drain the considerable water away to a more suitable location. (The technician did not comment on the installation I noticed it after reading the manual and then a further two installation problems were detected by someone else ( I have taken photos)) My son is having a breakdown so now we are forced to spend more money to have an electrician put a timer on it so he can get some sleep but it will be unbearably noisy during the afternoon. What a waste of money........

Quantum has been fantastic
Although this quantum unit was purchased 14 years ago, we have never had a problem with it producing instant hot water.
It has produced bountiful steaming hot water and halved our energy expenses.
I got it serviced two years ago as recommended by Quantum although it didn't seem necessary as it was functioning
superbly.
Seemed expensive at the time but pretty cheap in retrospect !

Inexpensive Hot Water
We have had a Qantum Hot Water System for 6 years now, and it is still going strong. We regularly get down to overnight temperatures of minus 5 degrees, but we also have plenty of hot water, so the sub zero air temperatures don't bother these Heaters. Quiet, efficient, and helps keep the electricity bills low. Cannot really comment on Customer Service as we haven't had any problems.
Inexpensive Hot Water
The fan can sometimes be a bit noisy, so avoid putting one near a bedroom.

Quantum The worst Heat pump unit and the worst company for after sale service
I had my unit fail just after the warranty expired. The unit started working continuously and stopped heating. I tried to contact Quantum and after several tries, i finally got thru and was told that their after sale service was outsourced and there was no authorized service agent near my suburb. They gave me the name of a couple of aircon tech companies who i contacted. Regretfully, they knew nothing about the unit and would not touch it. I ended up getting a new gas unit and will never ever consider a heat pump unit. I will also ensure to tell everyone I know about the pathetic customer service I received from Quantum.
Bad service, unreliable product.

RE Quatum Hot Water Systems
I have been selling Quantum Heat Pumps for over 14 years nearly since the inventor [name removed] (Sydchrome and Ramset fame) sold out and have sold many and fixed many .You will hear of only the lemons or of the people that complain but I can assure you that of the 1000 odd I have sold, to my knowlege all are still going bar four and three of those were replaced under warranty by Quantum Energy.A wonderfull patiented Australian invention that will only cost you about $150 per year to run compared with $400 -500 for gas
Near perfect in its manuafacture and should last 20 years
Administration is running on low at the moment.

s have run for 2 years without problems. One unit is at least 15 years old and still going strong. On my new house I will install a 340 litre compact and run it in daylight from a pv solar power systemYep, sick of all the complaints in this industry! Rarely will anyone say how pleased they are when they have hot water...which is a very high percent.

no aftersales service,
I called Quantum service Line to find the nearest Service Person and had to wait 3 Days for a return Call. Works OK in Summer but is useless and unreliable in Winter. Some Days it just won't heat the Water, but it is running continuosly. Not easy to find a Service Person to touch a Quantum Waterheater and neither will I, ever again

Staff Do not care and after meeting someone who has worked there it seems as if the company do not care about there staff in essence STAY AWAY!
Still don't know! No one will help me, and No plumber will touch them

The Worst Service Experience I Have Ever Had
My (90 year old) Mum's Quantum failed just after 5 years, outside the warranty.
Called Quantum service and they took the details and said someone will call back. Still waiting to date for the call back. Called again the following Monday and finally got to talk to a real person who took an interest. Gave 'sort of local' air con tech to come. He had the devil's own job to get parts out of Quantum and they were so slow in dispatching a new compressor.
Never, repeat never again will I recommend a Quantum to anyone else - let alone purchase one again. After they sell the HWS, they dont give a hoot about you.
Unique technology to heat water is great.
Extremely poor after sales service.

I endured the same lack of care when calling the Quantum service division. It took me five calls just to speak to a manager who then told me that Quantum takes no responsibility for the outer casing and deteriorated paint work.

Good
Almost didn't buy one due to negative reviews on websites - claimed to be noisy! Total nonsense and probably put in by solar HWS &/or heat pump competitors. Sound levels about that of a fridge or quite airconditioner. Well installed by local agent (Townsville). Previous experience with solar HWS (Charters Towers) was that it didn't last.
Good HWS, quiet unit, performs well, saves power.

Quantum Waste of Money
I will never ever install another Quantum Chinese made heat pump. After forking out over $3400 for the product 2 years ago, we have had nothing but major issues with it. The unit has failed for the last time. I live in country WA and will be going back to a 250 litre electric storage unit, which is what we had before. What a waste of money .

Very disappointed with both the unit and Quantum the company
Unit ran almost continuously after degassing itself. Quantum serviced the unit as obliged under warranty. When same fault happened again just out of warranty they were not interested! They said we should he known that the unit was being overworked. Perhaps they were right! If I had been sleeping outside by the unit I may well have heard it running almost continuously before I did. Has turned me off heat pumps for good.

Brilliant. Installed hot water pump 2 years ago - we have never run out of hot water. The unit is installed against our bedroom wall, it does not make any more noise than our split system air conditioner. I am a light sleeper and it doesn't wake me if it starts up during the night. Our electricity bill dropped by one third when we swapped from our normal electric hot water service to quantum. On the basis of this when we put in a pool we installed the quantum pool heater..it is brilliant also. The guy who installed our pool was most scept...Read more
ical at first, until he experienced it working. Our electrician tested it to see what amps it was using and couldn't believe how little electricity it actually used. It works, saves on power bills. Cockatoos can't damage it, unlike solar system on roof. Works well in all weather. Large units, need lots of space.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very energy efficient, especially if you fit a timer switch ($5.00) so that the unit only runs during the hottest time of day. Ours is set to come on at 12:15PM and as there are only two of us, it has a time window of 3 hours to operate. (If you have a larger family, give it a longer window.) During summer it runs for about 1.5 hours on average, in winter it can run for up to 3 hours occasionally in cold weather. At the time when we purchased, no other Heat Pump was good enough efficiency to not require an electric booster for cold weather.

We have had the unit for almost 2 years, and we have never run out of hot water on even the coldest days. For us the heat pump is far superior to the traditional solar systems with the panels on the roof, and it works really well in all climates. It's so efficient that it has halved our electricty usage. With our old system we were using about 22-23kwh/day and now we average 11-12kwh/day, and the only change was to get rid of our old electric storage hot water system and install the heat pump. It was money well spent.
Incredibly energy effic...Read more

Hi Roger, they should be no noisier than the outdoor unit of a Split System Air Conditioner, which has been my experience with them. Perhaps you have a faulty bearing in the fan or something else that needs maintenance?
