Slow or no reverse gear Rover 6 months old
After six months of experience with the ride on mower you would be aware that reverse gear is not as fast as forward gear.
And just checking on the assumption you’re not on a wet slippery or steep slo...
We are looking at this mower for our school Gardener. Can you attach a tow hitch and roughly what is the max speed please?
Any other thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.
So you can hitch a trailer to this, max tow weight is about 100 or 150 Kg, cannot quite recall, so just put that caveat on the info below, they are quite powerful its the transmissions you need to ta...
Read moreke care of, on flat good grassed grounds, with a trailer that is sold for this purpose, usually plastic trailers with steel frames and larger tyres 150Kg could be fine (cost about $200 and come with drop pin fitting for tractor (not 500mm ball type) its a pin drop in and lock system, you can see the hole for it at the back of the tractor in teh car panel under and behind the seat, but up hills, or down, on softer ground, or greater weight than 100Kg it would strain the drivetrain of the Lawn tractor, this applies to all such machines be they Zero turn or tractors, in fact tractors are better at towing as the front wheels actually steer. I do have a matched trainer for mine and easily run it about with bags of cement, cut up greenery and small trees, lots of tools and timber (fencing etc). very effective combination and 100 to 150 Kg is a lot of weight as a load in the trailer, bigger more floaty tyres help the pulling tractor too. To get bigger tow weights you have to up to much bigger and way more expensive tractor units. Hope that helps, have a look at the brochure/call the local seller, they will know what the max tow weight is for sure. It is certainly NOT LESS than what I had identified. The tractors are tough and I have seen some folks abuse them on hills, steep slopes and they run for years, I am just a more careful with my gear.Senior School, from mark, to save you effort I just checked, it can tow $150Kg no worries, roughly the rule is 50% of weight of tractor, I have an 18/42 which runs via one transmission unit to one dri...
Read moreving wheel, I think the 24/42 may operate 2 transmissions, or have a "diff lock" or an upgraded transmission to my mower, in that case the tow rating probably is higher, about 200Kg due to teh more robust set up, that you would need to check with the dealer or the web,What is the highest cutting this mower does?
What are these mowers like on 15-20 degree slopes?
Denice. The highest cutting height Is approximately 4 inches from the ground depending on the terrain that is how hard the ground is how much grass you’re rolling over it maybe a little higher or low...
Read moreer. The adjustment on the mower is quite standard really across or similar knows and each notch is around in a quarter of an inch or 5-6mm Virtually all ride on mowers have advisory notices to not be used on a slope of more than 15°. But there are a number of factors here, 15° riding across the slope that is horizontally and would be where the application of 15° applies if you are driving up the slope and reversing down the side and 20° would potentially be okay provided the centre of gravity of the mower was as low as possible which means the weight of the rider is not excessive as reversing down the slope and stopping could result in the mower chipping backwards if the ride that was particularly heavy. Now this is not a recommendation to do these sort of things but commonsense does allow a certain latitude in the operation of the mower based on common sense and the environment that it’s being used. I have seen people use ride on mowers of this type on slopes in excess of 20° on dirt with stones and sparse grass areas and do so with great affect and having had the experience of doing it I doing it safely. Other factors are is the ground slippery does it tend to be wet or is it quite dry and the Rover lawn tractor models I think from 46 inch upwards have a differential system that effectively gives you full two wheel drive at the rear and compensates for slippage which would be the best models to get. Hope this helps answer your questionWhats the lowest cutting height?
Bill,
The lowest setting height on the deck is set at 1 inch. Personally I find a a normal setting of 3 provides a good cut with grass thick and bouncy when finished.
I do not have a perfectly smooth...
Hi, just wondering if those who left reviews are still happy with their choice of ride on after a few years down the track please?
Yes, from Mark Brisbane. Hokianga... we are nearly at Xmas and 7 months of ownership just passing by now, end of November, can I tell I am 110% satisfied. The lawn king runs, starts and cuts brillia...
Read morently. It’s comfortable and reliable, very easy to use and look after. Wish I had bought it a few years ago, but it’s great . Enjoy..Yes. We've had it for over 2 years and it has proven reliable and effective in all circumstances. It gives a good cut, even in wet grass, and is very easy to maintain.
What kind and how many blades does it have
It has 2 x separate spindles each with a single blade (~21" each) under the single deck to give 42" cut. Both flat and mulching blades are available.
John,
Harken answered this question perfectly, I have the standard cutting blades on my Lawn King which are as described, a flat blade but with cutting edges to cut and propel grass through the edit. ...
My Rover Lawn King doesn’t shoot the grass up into the catcher and gets clogged just above the cutting deck on a regular basis, what would be causing this, it is only about 6 months old but was not doing this when I first purchased it. ?
My thought would be the grass is too wet/juicy to be thrown up into the catcher. We have similar problems with mulching, but that's the same with all the ride-ons. This year, the grass is particularly...
Read more thick and healthy, making cutting that bit more difficult. We have been cutting higher (3.5-4) as a first pass and then going over it again on a lower cut. Leaving a day or so between the cuts also helps.does it have 4WD? Does I need it? I have a lot of steel hills and the ground can get pretty boggy
No. I don't actually know of any ride ons that do have 4WD. Steepish hills aren't too bad with the limited slip reverse diff, butt boggy is bad - as with all mowers and ride ons!
Does the Rover lawn king have a catcher?
No. It does have a mulcher attachment which works really well. I had a catcher on a previous ride on, but it was pretty useless - had to stop to empty it every few minutes. Using the mulch capability ...
