Way better than expected

published

I originally bought the trim router from Bunnings as my Makita one finally bit the dust. Was quite impressed and bought a few more products over the last few years. I have had some minor issues (seized chuck - cleaned with high-pressure air and was fine) and one battery that died after two years but to be honest this is similar to the issues I have had with both my Makita and AEG tools in terms of reliability. For a medium to moderate user, around the house for example, they work perfectly. They are not quite tough enough and powerful enough for trade use but have lasted as long as some far more expensive products.

Great tool, poor battery

published

Love the tools itself but cannot keep a battery working. Battery is bad after 2 charges. Bought another one and it is bad after 6 charges. Gave it another try with a new charger and had the same problem again. Very poor quality on battery. Have four different tools and like all four. To bad I cannot a battery working. Time for a change.

Worst drill I have ever bought

Ryobi tool are crap. I have had drill 2 sanders all broken. Never buy them it your money down the drain they should banned these product from Australia. Ryobi itself don't want to know you when you have any problems with there tools, bunning just tell you contact Ryobi.

OK

published

Drill has plenty of power but chuck always comes loose and loses grip of drill bits when using hammer function. Battery charger failed on first use but was replaced under warranty, only have had to use the new charger once so hope it doesn't fail again. Think if I went to buy a cordless drill again I would go for a better quality, Makita, AEG etc'.

Can't Ask For More

published

A friend of mine had a spare one of these so I figured why not take it.

The "problem" is once I had it I was happy with it so I got a second tool in the One + series, and then a third and fourth and...... now I have seven of the One + products. Good bang for buck, large range of products. Very happy.

Ok for very light use. Terrible for medium to heavy use

published

Replaced it for or five times in 4 years because of faulty chuck. Good thing they have the replacement warranty I figured I would just keep replacing it for free. Over priced considering you can get a heavy duty Makita for about the same price. The 1.5MA batteries are rubbish they don't last. But the 4MA and 5MA lithium batteries are good.

Beware of addiction

published

The Ryobi One+ system is addictive. In order to get full use of these functional and reliable tools make sure you get the 4.0Ah batteries. 20 tools and 5 batteries later, I am totally hooked and have actually given away most of my corded tools (which I have amassed over 30 years) in order to buy Ryobi replacements. Yes there are competing brands on the market, but not when it comes to cordless, battery powered chainsaw, mitre saw, weed sprayer and nail gun! Be warned - once you start you can't stop!

I really like the freedom of no cables that one+ products provide, but you should keep your receipts and avoid some products. I bought a battery charger in this line to service my old 14.4 volt drill, then when the battery began to fade bought a new 18 v drill which is great for small jobs. I've since added an LED area light which is great, a line trimmer that does the job, and a mini vacuum cleaner which is next to useless. The new drill came with 5 aH battery, which charged OK in the new charger but it blew up the old charger (with a bang) even though everything about the two chargers was identical. Of course I don't have the old receipt....so keep them.

Love this - no cords

published

Have had an old royobi blower with the nicad battery, which needed to run down before recharge. Recently bought this drill with the 4.0 Ah battery. It's great how the battery technology is developing at the moment, as this battery seems to last forever and doesn't get a memory. The drill has everything except hammer abilities, it has a good light and a great flat area above the battery, which is magnetic and you can store drill bits and screws while you are using the drill, instead of dropping them all over the floor, or even worse in the dirt! You don't need a chuck, which is also a benefit as it's easy to change drill bits. Really happy with this one.

Keep your receipt you will probably need it

published

With minimal consumer use only, I have had 2 drills chucks have seize.
Ryobi only provide a warranty of 3 months for this part and claim it is a consumerble part.
Battery charger has stopped working after charging no more than 15 times. Replacement is ridiculously overpriced.
These products are not built well and do not seem to be designed for serious use. Cheap plastic in flashy colors.
Chuck sleeve is susceptible to becoming loose while in use. That causes the drill bit to fall out.
There are better drills out there if you can afford them.

Excellent Product for the Price

published

I purchased this to do a few large projects and it has performed flawlessly. Plenty of torque and the drill itself is pretty solid. It has taken battering and has been dropped numerous times, but despite the harsh treatment it is still working well. Batteries (4Ah) last a decent amount of time, however if you want to use it for larger projects I would grab a second battery.

Better than I expected

published

I have been using this drill for about 18 months, purchasing the earlier model with the smaller 18volt batteries for $175 from Bunnings. Although I am not a tradesman it has seen a fair bit of work. I have built a timber deck screwing in over 1000 stainless steel screws, driven 130mm screws into timber retaining walls and used it for countless other projects. I also use the batteries on a Ryobi reciprocating saw that I have used with a large blade to cut down trees and even cut through 200 x 75 hardwood sleepers (battery lasts about 1.5 sleepers).

Works well. Very expandable with one plus system.

published

I have quite a few one plus tools. This drill works well, has plenty of grunt, and with the new Li Ion 5AH batteries has decent life. I've used it on lots of things including big hole saws, it has never let me down. Purchased from Bunnings. I have not had any issues with this drill in the time that I have owned it.

Ryobi, making the competition shake in their boots

published

Unlike my Philips shaver, I don't use it every day. My wife leaves me to look at the gadgets while she looks at the plants . I smile because my battery on my drill or one of 20 other Ryobi products will still be very much alive when her plants are turned into fertiliser . Even though I don't have enough hands or time to use them all, I'm thinking of building something just to use these very reliable tools. It's one of the only bright green things I don't mind admitting I use. Why on earth would you use anything else.

Value for money

Bought at Bunnings in Jan '15, its had plenty of use since then & I can't fault it. I thought the little led light was a bit of a toy, but its great in those tight, dark places. Plenty of torque adjustments from very light up to wrist twisters. A lot of grunt when drilling. Batteries last & last & recharge so quickly. Very happy.

Good Drill made better by the range

As a drill goes, it does the trick - maybe not all tricks, but it's a solid performer. What makes it special is the whole One+ ecosphere of products: a common battery across so many devices is great.

A great drill for the handy man with a lot of work

published

Easy to use and reliable with long lasting batteries led light needs switch to use when drill not running so you can line up in the dark . the keyless chuck slips under heavy load but still a good drill / screwdriver even better if you have batteries already 4.0ah is best still not to heavy.

Someone (actually not myself) i think has dropped my machine and i think it had a blow on the upper left side of the chuck because it seems to have lost its stability and support in the downward right direction. I have opened it guessing that the problem is inside the twistable part just behind the chuck. Has anyone had the same problem and can guide me a bit maybe ? Or does anyone know if the screw holding the chuck is right or left threaded ??

It was part of a 50 year present from my brothers so i would like to have it running again (it does work but does not feel ok to use).

I have already opened the device and my guess is that the thread is backwards.... do i have to put everything back in the housing to be able to remove the chuck without loosing everything that can (and will) fall out of the gear housing ??

If you look on youtube their are clips which show you how to pull apart your drill and replace the damaged chuck. The chuck is available through ebay or Bunnings and other stores. You just need to find one that is compatable with your drill. As how to remove chuck assembly -- https://www.hunker.com/13415303/how-to-remove-a-ryobi-drill-chuck

This drill does not have a hammer function. It is a drill/driver only.

Mine has been a great drill... I love it. But - last week, I found I couldn't engage the slower speed. The slide switch only moves from the #2 position to half way between #1 and #2. Power is only there for the #2 position. Any ideas?

It sounds like something inside is mechanically jamming. I think you will have to disassemble it and find out why. Chances are something has dislodged or has broken that selects the gear ratio. Good luck.
