The BBC says it will no longer be streamed on a Sangean after the summer and to contact the manufacturer about this. Who should I contact?

Ross W.
Ross W. ·

No one,, its the BBC trying to deflect blame . You will only be able to access the BBC on apps that allow you to create a BBC account, so our internet radios will be of no use for the BBC which is extremely annoying

Occasionnally when i switch off the radio while listening to an internet radio and later switch in on the sound does not come back while the station appears and play with no sound. I have to make several switch on and off, unplug, replug and then suddenly sound come back. İt is tedious and frustrating... Any suggestion?

Hi Fua
Most of the time sound issue occurs when there is weak network signal. Your other devices may not have an issue with internet however the radio may need strong signal because it uses for live streaming. If you have strong network signal please do the following. Turn the modem off and leave it for 5 minutes and turn it back on again. Wait for all the lights to become green. Then Factory reset the radio. When prompted "Do you want to start now?" proceed with it. You can follow the instructions on Canohm website to setup internet. Copy and paste the below link to your search engine. https://canohm.com.au/products/radios/sangean?view=article&id=788&catid=121 Go to Internet troubleshooting, Setup Wizard, then click the + sign to obtain instruction. If above troubleshooting doesn't rectify the issue, please connect your phone (hotspot) to the radio to see if the same issue occurs. I hope this helps. :-)

How to delete favorite stations in the internet mode?

Purchased the radio for my wife to stream a local Chicago station when we're away. Worked great until this week. As she listens, the audio skips back and repeats. Apparently it's gotten to the point that it is now unlistenable. She has power cycled and the station comes in clear - just the repeat. Anybody know a solution/cause?

Ross W.
Ross W. ·

Mine started doing that last year after owning it 3 years But only a few seconds in the first minute of changing channels and not to local internet stations. I read it's common on internet radios and its an internet thing rather than a radio fault. If was a Sangean error Id guess there would be plenty of online chat about it

Does the problem only occur on that one station, or on any you wish to hear? I had that problem once but only on a particular station that must have had a corrupt stream.

I just get no sound at all. Not through the speaker, not through the 3.5 input, nothing at all. Has this happened to anyone?

Well this isnt a question but a solution. I have a Sangean WFR-28D but it would apply to other Sangean radio's re tuning or setting your favourite stations and they go missing. After a few tries and some times success I have finally found the quick fix. On your radio you have a Mode button and I found my internet stations went MIA. The solution is simple I had accidently pushed the Mode button on front of radio and changed it to some other mode e.g DAB etc. To get your stations back for your internet stations push the Mode buttun and set it on INTERNET and you presets will come back. Simple I know but it took me a long time to work that out. Hope this helps someone else.

My SANGEAN WFR-27C works okay on mains but it will not charge my rechargeable batteries. The small switch is set to NiMh. The "charge" light illuminates for about 15 minutes then goes out and it stops charging. Frustrated.

Not sure if this will help but I recall a similar thing happened to me when I first got mine. I can't remember exactly what I did but I think I rotated the batteries and probably just unplugged the radio and plugged in again. I assume all the batteries are of the same capacity? Other than that the manual says,

Note:
Duration for charging your battery fully can be varied according to the mAh capacity of a battery. Higher mAh batteries required longer charging time.

Under some conditions the charging LED indicator may switch off after flashing briefly. This may happen if the batteries are already freshly charged, or if the radio detects that you may be attempting to recharge alkaline batteries or mixed different types or capacity of rechargeable battery. In these cases the charging will be stopped.

Never had a problem. Have 2 of these radios. Have you tried replacing the batteries or testing them in another device?

Thanks chaps....the problem seems inconsistent but I am trying a few tests with new batteries. On internet radio the radio works for about 15 mins before the red light comes on and it switches down. That’s after a full recharge.

Just got Sangean 28. I was able to set it up. When I turn it off it forgets the internet Wi-Fi connection and I have to set it up again. If I keep it plugged in, it keeps the Wi-Fi setting. Do I have to keep it plugged in all the time?

My sangean wfr- 28 has worked for a couple of years just fine, Have had a couple of instances when it was unstable which were overcome by removing the batteries and removing any other power input, and after a few munities putting it all back together again (more or less a reboot). Now my problem is that there is no audio output to it's own speaker, headphone jack or line out jack, I have tried the reboot with no avail. Any sugestions?

I have a WFR-28C and whilst I'm very happy with it, I've had a couple of issues.

One station I wanted to listen to played fine for a few seconds then started stuttering back and forth over a portion of the audio. At the same time the track and artist info was just gobbledygook. Anyhow, not too concerned about that one anymore.

Another station (smooth Relax in Australia) was working well until yesterday when it just stopped in the middle of listening to it and hasn't worked since. Tried all sorts of fixes. Reboot modem, reboot radio, remove and add to favourites, etc. Even tried listening to other streams in the smooth family but none of them work.

Meanwhile those stations all work fine when listening on other devices.

Would a factory reset help, or is there a simpler way to correct the problem? Perhaps a problem at Frontier Nuvola?

Thank you.

Are there any tricks to help the alarm stay on the radio mode? I understand if a connection can't be made the alarm reverts to buzzer. It seems to take my radio a bit to make a connection so I'm always (except 2 occassions) getting the buzzer - which I HATE BEING WOKEN BY!!! I suppose its to do with my internet not the radio.... just hoping there's some little trick I could use (besides waking up before the alarm and sureing up the connection....) Thanks.

My WFR 28D works fine, but only with battery. I changed power supply, also I measured it, it is OK, but not working with it. What should be a problem?

I'm really keen on buying one of these radios as I do have other Sangean products that are excellent, but one matter of concern is the fact that it appears to use vTuner. vTuner now requires an annual subscription, albeit at a currently low price. But I have four other Network Radios using vTuner and if each one requires an annual licence fee, it does become a concern - particularly if vTuner raises this fee at sometime in the future. Any comments on this will be appreciated.

Brian
Brian ·

I have not heard of a vTuner. My three internet radios connect wirelessly to my router. The cost of operating them via the internet is minimal. I presume you have a modem that connects you to the Internet.

Eric S.
Eric S. ·

Yes, the vTuner app is used by Sangean to decode the internet radio stations. Similar to TuneIn. But a couple of years ago the owners of vTuner decided to cancel all such servicesd to the various radio manufacturers unless they paid an annual licence fee to vTuner. Subsequently, most of the Network Radio manufacturers switched over to the TuneIn app for their products, which is (currently) free of charge.

FWIW, here is the message from Denon concerning this issue:

Further to this, I looked up the vTuner website. Sangean is listed as one of their partners and the WFR-28C specifications include the use of vTuner as their means of receiving Internet radio stations.

TUNER DAB / DAB+ Channel Block 5A - 13F
FM Frequency (MHz) 87.5 - 108
RDS / RBDS PS / PTY / CT / RT
WiFi IEEE 802.11 b / g (GHz) 2.4GHz / 5GHz
Ethernet Internet Radio (iRadio) vTuner
Media Player (mPlayer) UPnP

I’ve had this radio for nearly 2 years. In that time, it has never worked properly. The biggest issue is that every 2 days or so, it loses its internet connection. Rescanning will pick up all the networks in my neighborhood but mine. I even have a wifi booster 20’ away. Hardwire is not an option. Rebooting takes 4-7 tries before finding my network. Starting to reboot every day now. Ideas?

Brian
Brian ·

I have had the same problem. I solve it by disconnecting the power for a few minutes and then re-connecting it, but it should not happen in the first place. I also have Cord internet radio that is much cheaper and never has a problem.

Wink
Wink ·

That doesn’t work. Rebooted at least 10 times. Factory reset twice. I really believe this is a pos. Spent a lot of money on this and it’s turning out to be a bad investment. Sangean tech support consists of telling users to reboot. I believe there is an inherent design flaw in their radios that they are aware of but will not fix. Seems odd that weak wifi signals register but high strength are unfounded. I have NO other issues with ANY of my other devices - 6 apple devices, 2 Samsung, nest, various other - and believe me, they are not all on at once. I know I have the bandwidth

Wink
Wink ·

So, I thought I’d give everyone an update because what I found out will certainly help someone out there. What really confused me was why my wifi networks ( router AND boosted wifi from router) disappeared from my scan, my very low signal from my neighbour 4 doors down shows up and my pvr network was always present. My phone app that scanned wifi networks showed all networks were working fine, and even on separate channels. Here is the problem. MY ROUTER. I power cycled it - 30 seconds. Rebooted my sangean, and now it works. Not sure which is at fault but it works now. No other wifi device connected showed any connection issues which is why I was confused. Any suggestions?

Can you please help me with my Sangean WFR-28 i/net radio which I have just purchased? Everything is set up but the display screen will not /does not remain illuminated to show what is being listened to. Any help or ideas will be very much appreciated. George

Pumpy
Pumpy ·

G'day George,
The illumination of the display will depend on the backlight settings, press Menu, rotate knob to System settings, press knob, select Backlight, press knob, select On level, press knob, select medium or high, press knob, select Dim level, press knob, select low or medium, press knob, wait and the station selected should be displayed. You can also set the timeout before the display goes to the dull setting and can be left in the on position just select timeout and push the knob and select the time you want. If that has not helped, take it back to JB HIFI. If it was not purchased from them all I can say is good luck as they are the only authorized Australian retailers of the WFR-28C (the C means colour display the only ones officially on sale in Australia) and Canohm the Australian Sangean importers won't cover grey import warranties.
I hope this has been of help.
Cheers, Bob.

My sangean radio stopped working Completely. Doesn't seem to be getting g any current. Tried different t connector. Any ideas?

Pumpy
Pumpy ·

G'day Silvia,
When you said you tried a new connector, was that just the connector or a new 7.5 volt 1.6 amp power supply?
Have you tried running it on battery power? It tales 4 "D" cells, I use rechargable NiMH cells, you can use ordinary Alkiline ones (Aldi ones are good value for money), just make sure the internal switch in the battery compartment of the radio is set to the correct position.
Cheers, Bob. (Pumpy)
