I have owned my 2009 1.8 TSI wagon for 4 and 1/2 years. This car is brilliant, build quality is exceptional, handling superb and very comfortable on long trips. My weekly drive consists of sitting in heavy traffic 5 days a week and a trip to the coast on the weekend and at an average of 8.1 litres/100k over the life of the vehicle the economy is very good. Highly recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for a reliable, likeable mid sized car.
Reliable, comfortable, very efficient, excellent build quality, practical use of space.

Bought: Skoda Octavia Sedan Hatch FY12 Feb 13 in Perth as we previously owned a diesel wagon before, loved it. Recently rear windscreen was smashed by vandals and were told we have to wait more than 4 weeks!! No spares are held in Australia and we are without a car!

Great Car, brought the 2.0ltr Diesel, never short of power, accelerates onto freeways with ease, sometimes faster than many cars around me.
Loads of boot space and easy to create more space with lowering of seat backs and parcel tray removal. Loads of hooks in boot space for hanging up shopping bags to stop them shifting around when you driving home.
Easily get 800'ks from a tank fill around suburbs, regardless of driving conditions or vehicle loads.

Company vehicle, not a single fault in 65,000KM. Averaging 5.2L per 100km when driven without regard for economy. Seats supportive and comfortable, you arrive at destination refreshed after 7hr drive in heavy Bruce Hwy traffic. The gearbox is very direct drive and great enthusiast item re being a full manual if requirered. The the torque is amazing. Compared the Mazda 6 diesel and by comparison the Mazda servise costs were close to 50% higher to 120,000km(10k interval vs 15k interval)

Update. 9/2017 traded the car due to transmission shudder. I have found the dealer mechanics to possess limited expertise and fail to cope with some aspects of required product knowledge (previously they did not know the correct # of kilometres to change the timing belt, I had to ring European Head Office). Transmission specialist was much more knowledgeable. Skoda wanted 10 thousand to replace it. Transmission specialist would have done it for far less ( less than $1,000) by fine tuning the computer settings. He noted that the transmission...

I bought a second hand MY11 Octavia TSI 118, Liftback, 37.000km with GPS and Bluetooth from a VW dealer for $ 19.990. I am extremly impressed by the solid build quality, fantastic performance and economy. Although Skoda hasn't yet the brand recognition in Australia it desrves, I highly recommend this vehicule. It's a driver's car and delivers huge fun to drive. The 7 speed DSG is the best auto I have ever driven. Last but not least, the boot is huge - 560 l is just class leading. Great job, Skoda!

I bought the TDI in 2009 but I think I now have buyer's remorse. This is not particularly good value compared to the cars we have available for a similar money. I think it may be a good car to buy second hand if you can service it yourself because it was very hard to sell and at the end I had to drop the price heaps. If you buy second hand but can't service it your self stay clear.
Cost a small fortune for a minor diesel service by Skoda. I can see why they are not that popular with people who like value.

I've been driving my MY11 Octavia RS wagon TSI Manual for almost 2 months now and can't fault it. Exceptionally well equipped, impressive engine performance and ride/handling. Build quality is over and above what I would expect for a car this price and it reflects it's Volkswagen family ties.
Interior space is generous (especially the boot), seating is very supportive and comfortable. Child seats are easily installed and prams and luggage fit easily in the boot area. Cargo blind design is lovely.

We were issued with an Octavia wagon on an interstate road trip in 2008 and against all odds, were totally blown away with the overall quality of the thing. The drive train was totally smooth yet powerful, handling (even with loads on board) fantastic, ergonomics brilliant and the seating great on our 1600km trip (no backache), which was the ultimate deciding factor to upgrade from our Mazda 6 upon our return. We have had nil issues with our 2008 TDI DSG wagon since purchase and at 62000km it always continues to impress us to this day. So much ...

We own a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI manual. It is a brillian car, we fill up every 6 weeks and it has plenty of room for us and two kids, the cargo area is great. My wife loves it because it is large enough for the family but small enough to navigate around town. Great value for money.

I would have no hesitation recommending this car.
Inexpensive, reliable, big enough for th family

I bought mine with 33000 klms on the clock. It is now on 99000 and not one thing has gone wrong with it. We are now a family of 4 and it suits us very well. I needed a car I could rely on and that was economical on fuel as I was about to move south of Perth and would be doing a lot of kilometres quickly. I looked at buying my first deisel vehicle and thought maybe a Peugeot 307 would do it but was put off by the numerous electrical issues that they seemed to have. Test drove this car and the Roomster, and opted for the Roomster. Would have been more than happy with the Octavia though. Good combination of features, price, space in the wagon. While the hatch had good space the larger loading area of the wagon gave it a practicality edge.

The back seat space was a bit tight. The shortish wheelbase perhaps made it a little jittery on the highway. This was only a minor thing, but a difference was noticeable when I drove a Roomster immediately afterwards (Roomster having better highway stability despite its shape)

Have owned this octavia since new (2009) and is a 2.0 TDI Elegance wagon model with optional sunroof. Have installed a cargo barrier and tow bar making it very practical and safe for the kids to boot. With two children under 3, while the back seat might be a bit tight for full grown adults, is perfect for them in their capsules/booster seats and the dog who lies between them (small dog).

12 month servicing for the diesel can be pricey per service, but not out of proportion with other brands such as toyota, volvo, honda, etc... and cheaper t...

I purchased a MY10 90TSi Octavia wagon with the seven speed DSG gearbox.
This car drives very well, is comfortable, well built & amazing performance for a 1.4litre motor. The fuel consumption is near to the stated figures. I have been getting 6.3l/100ks with two people & 6.7l/100km with 4 people & luggage on highway trips. Around town it returns around 6.5l/100km.

I test drove several cars before deciding on the Skoda.I found it to be the best car for me in the $30,000 to $40,000 bracket.

Very well equipped for the price, perfected suited for travelling with loads of large & small storage space and great fuel economy. Firm but extremely comfortable seats for average sized people with both front seats offering height & lumbar adjustment. Full sized spar e wheel, adjustable headlights which are handy for night travelling. Have really come to ignore the rather bland styling for the great benefits it offers.
Fuel efficient both around town & highway, plenty of power from small engine assisted by turbo & 7 speed gearbox.
Takes a little getting used to if one hasn't driven a turbo before.

Superb motor car, great feel on the road, great economy, at 73000 km's have had no issues at all, very good on tyres. Overall I am a convert, my brother also drives a Skoda. I drive approx 600km's per week and constantly achieve 6.3 litres per 100km's, so better than published figures.

Very competent car for $30990, nice relaxed ride, lots of standard features, you will be surprised that a 1.8l engine with only 118kw performs so well.
Australians would be doing themselves a favour if they started looking at these cars instead of your Falcodores or Camrys. Remember underneath that Skoda badge is Volkswagen engineering and build quality, so it can't be bad.
Price, Build quality, Huge Boot, Good performance of 1.8t, very good fuel economy, "honest" looks, nice ride.
Handling could be sharper, Resale value, new model coming soon, even though its only been on the market for 12 months, not much else.

Skodas are very reliable cars. Ask any pom or german and I bet they won't have a bad word to say about them. You don't get what you pay for, I believe you get more. I can only comment on the 2.0 TDI 6-speed manual sedan which I've been driving for the past 2 1/2 hears. I have nothing but praise for this car. I love that it looks just different enough for people to take notice without being offensive. Although the 2010 model is, I believe, even more stylish than the older one. We looked at both this and the Skoda Roomster. We ended up buying the Roomster for our family but this was a great vehicle. HEAPS of room. Especially in the boot. Fantastic fuel economy. Handled really nicely. Quite an elegant looking car. It is surprising how much room you have for a family in this car. Underneath Skoda is made with VW parts so you have excellent quality. A really high safety standard - meets high levels of european safety standards. Well worth a look!
