75000 Klms with no problems
I purchased this car in September 2016 and as my job requires me to be on the road each day I can speak with some confidence about how this car has performed. I can genuinely say that there has been no issues except I needed a new battery after 50000 Kim’s but no charge to me. The DSG has never given me a problem so I really don’t know why some people complain about it.
My car was optioned with the Tech pack which amongst other things included a great sound system and radar cruise control.
The 1.4 motor has enough power for me and the torque ha...Read more

The hidden gem of the motoring world
I love the Octavia RS245 because it is a brilliant compromise of sportiness and practicality. It's based on the Golf GTI Performance so it's quick and handles beautifully. However it's got a longer wheelbase so it has more room, a huge boot and is more comfortable. It's also much cheaper, just as well equipped and built and very reliable as well. So far I've done 80000km, a lot of that with performance modifications on the car and the only problem I've had is a leaky water pump which was replaced under warranty without any problems. It's also r...Read more
easonably economical, I can get down to 6l/100km on a highway trip, although it's generally between 8 and 9 on a mixed journey. Other things I like are the big clear infotainment screen, the excellent lane assistance, the sporty but very comfortable front bucket seats, the fantastic LED headlights, the multi-mode adaptive dampers and the silky smooth 7 speed gearbox. Things I don't like? Road noise is quite bad, there are a few rattles from the sunroof, the stock Pirelli tyres were just atrocious and the black colour is very difficult to keep clean. Overall, very happy.

Much improved and loving it
This is my second octavia. Skoda has fixed the DSG without the 0.3 second delay to get off the mark. It is so smooth, working extremely well with the 110kw 1.4T engine. Fuel consumption around 6.8lt per 100km around town with climate control operating.
Android Auto make life so easy. Up to date Google map, voice control texting. Google read out your messages.
Turning cycle is unbelievable good for car of this size.
Emergency breaking have safe many lives in city driving.
Strongly recommend

Great value
Fantastic value for what you get, with massive huge cargo capacity, despite being a medium sized station wagon. I've got the base model, and even the base model has a good level of accessories, such as adaptive cruise control; wired Android Auto/Apple Carplay; and dual-zone climate conrol. Fuel consumption is good, and performance is more than adequate. The only drawback is that it uses premium unleaded.

Excellent so far (1000km)
Traded my 2013 Octavia TSI 90 for an Octavia VRS my18 169 tsi6 with the upgrade packs. Excellent so far but have only done 1100kms. Was told my new Android 7.1 phone would accept Android Auto but it doesn't. Very disappointed I can't monitor traffic conditions on the impressive 9.2" Columbus screen. The owner's English language manual, like the previous one includes every version of Octavia for that year which makes it very hard to navigate the 271 pages of small print. Reference photos are not good. It's well prepared but too convoluted in my ...Read more
opinion. I believe the impressive list of driving and safety features in the up grade packs are all there and working, but can't be sure. A steep learning curve trying to understand maybe. Driving the car is a delight. Basically a sports car which I've toned down to the eco mode which is all I need as a retiree. Fuel consumption in this break in period is impressive. On ron 98 averaging around 6.5l/100 combined and down to about 5.4l/100 on the freeway. Maybe less than one litre per 100 worse than my old 90tsi all over which is very good. Should improve after a few thousand kms.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good Car
Bought this car as a demo with about 400km on the clock and use it as every day transport.
1.4 TSI with 7 spd DSG. Tech Pack and Luxury Pack were fitted.
We've now done 28k and had the first service done at 15k. Checked oil today with 2k to service. Still on full level.
Difficult to find fault. Comfortable, quick enough when needed, Bells and whistles work well and it's surprising how quickly they become integrated into your every day driving.
Very economical. Have been down to 4.9 on a few trips and anything over 5.5 is a disappointment....Read more

Octavia - Great drive.
Octavia is used for a mix of suburban & highway driving.
This car is used most days of the week.
Servicing is yearly.
We usually cover approximately 12000Km per year.
The only issue has been the original 12V battery. 3 calls to Skoda Assist over 3 years -car in garage at home each time- battery replaced at 3 years.
Otherwise absolutely no issues. The engine DSG combination is brilliant. A very sweet drive with brisk acceleration.
Ignore the motoring writers who complain about DSG Transmissions. Occasionally you do get a minor edging backwards after backing out of garage & then engaging forward (Drive) -less than most drivers would experience with a manual car.

Fantastic economy and great value
We have an MY17 Octavia sedan, petrol, fitted with the sports pack. Overall, I would say this is a great car. It’s best feature would have to be the fuel economy – we average 7 or less litres /100km. On a recent trip involving both motorway and city driving, we managed 5.6 l/100. For a petrol car running on 95 fuel, that’s outstanding! It has a 1.4 litre turbo and a seven speed DSG gearbox. There’s plenty of get up and go, and the car feels quite sporty to drive for what it is. It corners well and sits on the road nicely. The DSG takes a ...Read more
bit of getting used to, and can either hesitate when you first move off, or suddenly jerk a little, depending how much throttle you give it. Not a big issue but you do notice it compared to a traditional auto. With the sports pack the car feels a bit low for my liking, and the low-profile tyres give a firm ride and a bit of tyre roar (with the original fitted tyres). The cruise is the radar type, and the lever takes a bit of learning. It also has autonomous braking, which is pretty impressive for the price. Plenty of room inside and a large boot too. It has a quality feel. I would certainly recommend one to another buyer, although I would forgo the sports pack to gain a more compliant ride and a bit more clearance for dished driveways. But, for a car with this level of economy, it’s the go-to-choice for a trip for us!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Car
I am a new owner of Skoda Octavia VRS (bought second hand) and I must say that this is one of the best car I have driven. I love every moment I drive my car. Amazed with its performance, agility and comfort. It is really an under rated car in Australia. The punchline 'Simply clever' is what I would say about this car.

RS 169 TSI
This is our first Skoda. Good build quality, super comfortable seats, very sophisticated electronics, best touch screen GPS I've used, great sound system. This is a seriously fast car but refined and nice to drive moderately too. Very comfortable for four occupants with plenty of leg room in the back. An enormous boot. This is a Golf GTi equivalent but with a character all its own. Ours has the 'Tech Pack', the 'Luxury pack' and the electric sunroof, as well as three years of pre-paid servicing -- really good value for just under $45K. After three weeks of ownership, I'm very impressed.

The Gamble Paid Off
Took a gamble on a Skoda and got the diesel RS with both luxury and tech pack with 19" wheels. Previous 2 cars has been VW Passat' s but the latest version was 1/2 a size too big for my needs
The Skoda has been superb in the 38,000k's since new. I'm a 125kg half polish bloke and the electric seat is the most comfortable I've sat in period. Mid range acceleration is rapid and there is none of the DSG hesitation that some of the road testers talk about.
Fuel economy averages at 6.2l/100kms of mostly urban driving with my weight. I h...Read more
ave been down to 5km on a long run. Handling is very sure footed on the low profile tyres which are lasting far better than on my previous Passat. The boot size is immense and once got a large vanity in the back that amazed the supplier. Quality is fab. I am amazed how it the boots stood up to transporting 300kg of tiles and grout and reliability is spot on.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best to avoid.......
So disappointed in this car. Skoda dealership left me high and dry from day one. Rattles like a freight train inside the cabin (which didn't exist on the test drive) - have been back to servicing three times and they never ever resolve the rattling issues (I was told I needed to provide a log of information about inside and outside temperature during rattles?!?!? Even though they're there all the time). There is a particularly bad rattle from the driver side door panel near the window (still not fixed). Sat nav issues originally from the day I ...Read more
picked up my car, and the pin was in a completely different place to my actual location. Was told I had to wait for a software update (salesman was lying/had no idea as it was a connection to the aerial issue all along). Bangs and booms over the mildest of course roads. My 2014 polo had better NVH levels than this car. It's such a shame because it has a lovely engine and great infotainment/technology. If the cabin had been made to the same level as a VW it would be totally fine, but I'm really unhappy with it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The best family sports wagon on the market
Hands down the best family sports wagon on the market today, a great blend of performance and practicality. Their is so much space in the back the kids love it, more tech than you can pick a stick at, highly recommend test driving one. Was my pick over the golf R and Levorg and I don’t regret it.

Very Impressed Each Time I Drive It
We bought a 2018 Skoda Octavia wagon and received delivery in December 2017. We chose the wagon with luxury pack and electric tail gate. The car is mostly VW underpinnings and it shows in the build quality as well as inheriting some of the more premium features from its more expensive VW & Audi cousins. The TSI engine is powerful and a enjoyable to drive, the DSG gearbox take a little bit of getting used to at low speeds but great once moving. The adaptive cruise and lane assist is game changing in terms of freeway driving. Long drives are...Read more
far more relaxing and less taxing on the driver. The boot space is exceptional, in comparison to a Nissan X-Trail (our other car) it is MUCH more practical. Fuel consumption is very low, getting real world figures of 7L/s in city driving, often short distances as well. The car does need premium 95 fuel, although the higher price is offset by the lower fuel consumption in comparison with a similar car. All in all a great car at an amazing price (nothing comes close in terms of equipment and price). It would appear Skoda are trying to get into the Australian market by providing well equipped cars for low prices.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best sports wagon under 50k
Awesome car the Skoda RS and ultra practical in wagon form.... was a GTI owner until my kids started to complain about rear legroom so i sold up and bought the latest RS245 wagon. Feels exactly like a bigger version of the Golf GTI although not as nimble. If Skoda were to offer the awd like in the Golf R wagon it would wipe the floor with the Subaru Levorg. 5 year / unlimited warranty whats not to like.... keep up the good work Skoda.

Solid Value For Money
I have now traveled just over 30K on my 2016 MY17 Octavia 1.4TSI 6 Speed Manual.
Now, keeping in mind i bought this car new and before that I owned a Honda AccordEuro which i also purchased new back in 2012, I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the Skoda.
Performance and handling are both relatively good. The engine is zippy enough and has enough power to comfortably transport 5 adults. Road noise is noticeable a tad more than when i was in the Honda but the price difference between the two reflects that.
Leg room is excellent, a...Read more
gain 5 adults are comfortable even on longer journeys. The cabin does feel a bit on the plastic side but everything is set out in a rather logical and driver friendly manner. For the price, the inclusions are class leading. I do a fair bit of highway driving so the adaptive cruise control, which comes standard, is heavenly. The car also comes with standard city assist and emergency breaking feature. At first i never thought it would be something i would use or even have any use of for that matter but lets just say it saved me at least twice now while my eyes were glued to my phone rather than the road.Similar opinion? Very poor warranty support
FINAL UPDATE 06/02/2018: The car repair was finally completed on Thursday 01/02/2018. We were looked after by a new service manager named [name removed] at the Cairns warranty dealership, who was a consummate professional, keeping us up to date at all times. He arranged a loan vehicle for the duration of the repair and we are very happy with his management of the repair. However, it is still worth pointing out that it took about a month due to Skoda carrying insufficient parts inventory in Australia. This is worth bearing in mind should yo...Read more
u choose to purchase a Skoda brand vehicle. It's also worth bearing in mind that none of this happened until I placed a link to this review on the Skoda Australia Facebook page. So thank you Product Review and thank you FaceBook! UPDATE 8/1/2018: Once again the car has lost all it's air con gas. The service agent has identified the problem as a faulty TX valve and leaking condenser. The good news is that it is covered by warranty. The bad news is that it will take 3 WEEKS for the parts to get here from overseas. Anyone, who has experienced a Cairns summer will understand that this essentially puts the car off the road until it is repaired. We will not be receiving a loan car. This level of service is so substandard. We currently have 12 of these vehicles in our fleet and will be changing back to Toyota as soon as it is economically viable. So much for that experiment. This review represents the final opportunity for Skoda to delight me with their customer service before I kick this brand to the kerb forever. ORIGINAL POST: We bought a Skoda Octavia in December 2016. Guess what? The air con gas leaked and this wasn't covered by warranty! Apparently the service agent in Cairns couldn't find the leak, therefore it wasn't a warranty repair as there was no category for them to select in the warranty system and "Someone has to pay". I am left wondering what the warranty might actually cover? I'm also wondering if someone from customer relations at Skoda might take the time to contact me and discuss?Similar opinion? Extremely good value for money
I bought the MY18 Octavia Sport wagon petrol and I would definitely buy another, running costs are very low compared to other cars I was looking at. I'm averaging 6.0L/100km. I was worried about the small 50L fuel tank I thought I'd be filling up more often and more than once a week. I'm getting 750-800km to a tank. So I can often go 2 weeks without refueling. Despite requiring more expensive 95unleaded, my fuel bill is around $25-$40 per week and I drive anywhere between 350km-500km per week. So my weekly running costs are much lower than my p...Read more
revious 4cyl Honda Accord. Octavia is a 1.4L turbo engine, I was worried it would be like a ride on lawn mower (slow as hell) but has more than enough power, I work in the hills so I drive up a long windy Hill every morning easily. It comes standard with 8 inch infotainment system, it's the best system I've ever seen in a car, high definition, no matter how much glare from the sun is on it u can see it clearly. Also reverse camera is HD. It has Android auto and apple car play standard even in cheapest model, which seriously makes all the difference, I speak to the car to navigate on Google maps, no more typing in addresses ever again, I even use my voice to tell google to play any song in the world that I want and it will play it. Voice control works flawlessly in android auto, even making phone calls or sending text msgs while driving is a piece of cake. However if u want to rely on skodas voice recognition u will find it useless along with most other cars. With Android auto I will never ever ever need to use a cd Player again or a USB with music on it. Just use Spotify or google play music. When I was looking at cars, I decided if it didn't have Android auto and apple car play I would take it off the list and I'm glad I stuck to that. I bought the wagon as I wanted to put my German Shepherd in the boot as I hated him damaging the back seats of my old car. I was worried the boot would be too small but he fits easily, I think he prefers the boot to the back seat anyway, as he used to hate going in the car now he loves it.Purchased in October 2021 for $34,850.00.

Bought my 110TSI wagon new in April 2016 and overall it has been a very well equipped, reliable and economical car that I really enjoy driving, but I have found 3 things to be aware of before you buy.1
1) The base model doesn't have independent rear suspension and it can get pretty bouncy back there. (Both my kids have complained of travel sickness)
2) The tow ball is rated at 75KG, which eliminates being able to tow just anything other than a small trailer of boat.

I had been driving Skoda Octavia for some time now. My advice will be, that its better to search for other alternatives. Reason being that Skoda Octavia Cars seem to have this inherent Clutch/Gear Box repeated malfunction issues. I have already gotten it done Thrice and it goes duff in just approx 3000 kms only and I ended up paying almost half a Lakh of INR every time. Requests for incorporating modifications have gone through the ears and Skoda is least bothered while the public at large bears a big hole in their pockets everytime. Rest i leave upto you. You can google and there are numerous complaints on Octavia's Gear Box / Clutch mechanism failure
Hi I have a Skoda Octavia VRS and love it at this time of year you should be able to get a 2016 plate model at a significant discount otherwise just shop around and make sure they know that you are.
The manual boxes are amongst the best. Clutch's for the manual boxes am not aware of any issues with these, and believe me I have researched car heavily. The 6 speed DSG boxes are heavily used in the UK taxi fleet and in fleet of 120 Diesel VW Passats in Brisbane. They are Ultra reliable as long as serviced properly and a service life of 500,000 miles plus is normal.

I am considering buying an Octavia, I have three children. I noticed on our test drive that when the infant capsule (safe-n-sound unity) was in the center of the back row (I prefer it in the middle because it separates the older two children), but it made it very difficult to clip in the other seat belts, as the base of the capsule covered the inserts. So, my question is does anyone have an Octavia and uses the center position for their child's car seat and what brand/model seat do they use? Bub's is nearly ready to change from the capsule into a front facing restraint...

Hi Lincella,
Sorry I can't answer your question as we don't have a Skoda anymore. And I'm not familiar with infant capsules in the Skoda.
Hi Lincella, I suggest that the Octavia is not wide enough for three children across the back seat and even if you squeeze them in now it won't be a long term solution. You might have a look at the Ford Mondeo which will fit three children across the back in booster seats/baby seats - and even that's a bit tight. Regards John
