2009 125TDI Skoda Superb sedan has been brilliant
A lot has already been said about the Skoda Superb and I must concur with most of what has been already written. This has been the best car I have owned or driven. I have owned close to 30 cars of many different marquees and these Skodas rank right up the top.
Economy
This Diesel engine is extremely economical. Around town it averages about 6.4/100 km but more impressive is that in a short run down a freeway (50km) and the economy usually falls to low 5s. In a trip to WA from Melbourne I achieved as low as 4.1 and the onboard trip computer e...Read more

2011 Skoda Ambition superb wagon 118 TSI. Car drives well, very spacious and comfortable. Leather trim is a plus. Take off from a stationed position could be improved, burns oil a little so check regularly. Beats the mazda 6 wagon hands down for drive quality and is a lot more cost effective.

Superb by name and nature.
Have bought a Superb Elegance 125TDI, 2013 model for my wife. After having it for 6 weeks I can say it has exceeded all expectations bar a couple of small points. If you are looking around and haven't considered the Skoda you are missing out. In this price bracket the Superb elegance is the benchmark, all others are behind and some by a long way.
My wife traded in her Mercedes for the Skoda so it had a lot to live up to. It has done this so well we almost forget how good the Mercedes was because this is much better in many ways, drive one an...Read more
d you'll see why. A similar car with similar specs would cost in excess of 70K so it is great value, this is mainly because Skoda is still a bit of an unknown brand in Australia. I'm not going to tell you about all the good points because that would ruin the surprise, instead I'll tell you about the not so good points, they are; 1. No reversing camera - really!! However, for $700 fitted you can have a "close as OEM could be" unit fitted. I will be doing this as DAB and TV can be fitted at the same time with the same unit (at extra cost). 2. Suspension thud - Don't get me wrong, under normal condition the suspension is sublime but sometimes at low speed you hit a pot hole or similar and the suspension can't cope, Skoda should and could fix this. 3. The electric seat position numbers don't illuminate .... yes I know it seems picky but as we both drive the car, her more than I, I have set the auto seat position to her setting meaning I need to press the seat "2" button every time after it is unlocked. At night you can't see the buttons so it makes it a little harder to do.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Skoda Superb Elegance BUY ONE I BOUGHT TWO !!
I bought a 2011 Superb Elegance sedan diesel for myself and was so impressed I sold my wife's 2011 Subaru premium outback and bought her the Superb Elegance wagon diesel. The Skodas are much better finished and we get around 800km around town out of a tank yet if you put your foot down is very quick and has great torque. Both cars have the 125 TDI engine. Servicing is once a year, on the downside DSG gearbox service is very expensive at around $625 through the Skoda service and I have a 7x5 trailer I use a couple of times a year but to get a tow...Read more
bar fitted is $1700 even an aftermarket one is $1100 due to the wiring harness has to bypass the computer. I am not the kind of guy to get excited over a car and I am not a hoon (42yrs old) but I enjoy this car every time I get in it as it is a pleasure to drive and I am told it is the same as a VW Passat!! Before I bought my wife's wagon looked at the Passat and the Skoda seemed to have better quality finishes!!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

A perfect car, wish I had one
Whilst I do not own a Skoda my friend has an Octavia which I drive for her on long distances. I must say is it the best motor vehicle I have ever driven and at my age I have driven many. It has many features which the average car just does not have and the smoothness in driving is great. I would not hesitate in recommending this to any one and would love to own one myself. European/imported cars put it all over most others with the features and ease of driving.

Very Impressive - almost lives up to the name
Bought a 2012 125TDI wagon second hand 15 months ago and have put on about 30 000km since with great results. If I had my time again - I would go straight back and buy another...
Pros:
Fuel economy better than advertised (details below). Great power in mid range where needed. Great space. Fantastic value for the luxury inclusions.
Cons:
A little narrow in the rear seat for two baby seats and an adult (similar problem with most mid sizes).
Brand awareness and depreciation rates.
Rear leg room:...Read more
First time I saw one of these at the motor show I laughed. I since read the reviews talking about more rear leg room than Gold Class but why the large rear leg room is really important to me (having never sat there) is that with two small toddlers and only being able to access one side door in the garage, this is an easy car for either me to "walk through" to the other side and plonk a baby in a car seat, or now that he's big enough, climb through and climb up himself. Can't do this in most normal cars. Turning circle: About the same as my previous mid size car and same as my wife's mid 2000's Mazda 3 - i.e. much better than the long rear leg room would suggest and will smash any of the soft roaders and some of the current mid sizes Luggage space: Massive and I have further invested in a Travall dog cage for the back, not for dogs, but so that I can remove the retractable shade (or keep it in) and stack to the ceiling without risk of falling forward. This dog cage is removable in minutes and leaves no marks and cheaper than the local offerings to Commodores or the like. Largest boot this side of a Commodore wagon and comfortably bigger than most of the softroaders. Handling: More salon than sports car, but mid corner speeds can be deceptively high when pushed. Far better balance in handling than comparable Japanese and local cars of similar age, such that it accumulates speed faster than you would expect coming out of a local / japanese car. When you really push it you can feel the weight of the diesel up the front, but then this is their luxury car not their sports offering. Ride quality is good and most bumps are well handled and don't upset the pose mid corner. Steering feel: Steering a little less direct than I like (i.e. more turns to lock than a sportier car or even the Octavia), but has good feel without being sporty. Clear contrast to the wooden tiller's being progressively attached to many of the local / japanese cars. Acceleration: More than adequate for most situations, though the 90-140km/hr over take bracket is perhaps not as good as local six cylinders. When pulling away from lights in an 80 zone you will often notice a local six launches off the line (as they do) and then slow down a little as they increase. The strength of the diesel is not so much off the line, but by the time you get to 1500 revs it is in its sweet spot and the local sixes (with normal city acceleration levels) are normally pegged back and overtaken between 60 and 80, especially if there are hills involved. Power Delivery: If you have driven a modern euro diesel skip to next section. If not, they deliver power in line with their torque curve such that best acceleration is between 1750 - 2500 revs and it is a rare day you need to exceed 2500 such is the reserve. In normal city driving I might hit mid 2's in first gear and then rarely crack 2000revs for the rest of the trip. Potential petrol converts, don't be alarmed by the relative lack of power (i.e. say Aurion 200 Vs 125kw here) as in essence they are producing about the same power up until (say) 4000 revs and then the big 6's will get away. In reality, unless you are a hoon or in a hurry a lot, you rarely use these revs in a big petrol engine and as noted before, I can spend all day driving under 2000 revs and no gear changing needed for hills as it is already at peak torque. Luxury / refinements: I will let you read elsewhere for the extensive list of features (particularly in the elegance) but realistically this is the best bang for your buck. What sets this car apart for me in a luxury sense though is the sheer quality of the lighting both internal (seemingly endless little lights exactly where they should be) and external with not only the lights in the door mirrors shining at door handles, but the brilliant adaptive focus bi-xenon's. Anyone looking through the list and seeing no reversing camera, these can be fitted aftermarket and integrated into to the existing 6.5" screen for under a grand and I gather you get to keep the optical parking display as well (I haven't done this). Seats: All four main passengers are heated and leather is of good quality and supportively shaped. Anyone considering a local / japanese car will likely notice these are far better than you are looking at in their offerings. What's it like for a 1000km day ? Have done a few and as long as I remove wallet from pants before sitting down, it is excellent. Cruise control, ridiculous amount of music on offer, effortless power (rarely pulls out of 6th even on biggest hills) and approx 1000km range. Very comfy seats. Fuel Economy: Don't just believe me - look at the summary at HonestJohn.co.uk. Around town with a mix of freeway and peak hour grid look I am averaging mid to high 5;s (indicated) depending on level of grid lock. On open road on a good run at 100, I average approx 5 or a little under and worst on record on hwy was 5.8 up hill, into wind on a 38 degree day with 4 on board and full luggage from Brisbane to Armidale. The milk run to Coles and back (2 starts and 2.4 km return) is normally around 9. Overall average has been in the mid 5's. Towing: 350 NM at 1750 makes for pretty easy towing power (more than any of the petrol bix 6's unless you rev them hard and more than most of them in total). Stability is fine. Reliability: Mechanically perfect, but have had a few niggles of very minor nature. After nearly 40 000, there are no rattles or squeaks. DSG: Yes I know the journo's love to hate these things, but technically they are fantastic, just slightly let down by the final application which no doubt is partly software. In essence, 3rd - 4- 5- 6 and back 6-5-4-3 are magnificent changes for which you wish for nothing more, but the problem comes in the very short 1st to second (a little jerky) and more noticeably from 2-1-0 when coming to a stop. If you re-programme your brain from driving slush box (which masks the compression change effects) to driving a manual and compensate throttle (going up) or brakes (going down) then you can get a decently smooth change. This becomes harder if you are accelerating or braking very hard. If you watch a lot of VW / Skoda cars around town you will notice most of them start their main acceleration in second or third gear as it is smoother than worrying about the 1/2 change. Don't let the DSG put you off an otherwise great package, more re-tune your thinking to a manual box run by a computer - which is closer to what it is. Brakes: Perfectly fine, but the real note is you don't actually need them anywhere near as much as a traditional petrol with sush box auto as the diesel / DSG does much of the breaking for you. Fancy Features: Umbrella in rear door - a little bit of use but part gimmick LED removable light / torch in boot - a little bit of use but part gimmick Look at me hands off reverse park myself - have used in anger three times in 1.5 years so not something I really value highly, but it works. Optical Parking sensor displaying on touch screen - Not bad - so you can see if there is only a single obstruction as each of the 10 sensors displays independently and sometimes. Most useful feature is the 2 cent plastic parking machine ticket holder on inside of windscreen near drivers door! Sum Up: If you are OK with the looks and the left of field brand, then great value second hand and good value new. I'm hoping to keep my for a decent innings.Similar opinion? All pretty good so far 118TSI
Had the vehicle 6 months now. Some initial faults:
* Stalling at idle, after braking to a stop on a few occassions during first couple of weeks.. Fixed at dealership. 'Software upgrade' - Why wasnt this done/checked as part of the pre-purchase/dealer delivery inspection?
* Internal passenger vanity mirror light not working. 'Part placed on order'. Never heard back. Chased them up about 3 months later. 'Staff turnover issues' at fault. Now OK
Otherwise very happy with the car. Quite impressed with the fuel economy for such a large ...Read more

Bought a demonstrator on Friday. I've been a Honda driver for over a decade now.
First impressions are:
Easiest car I've ever driven.
Responsive motor and gearbox - no lag. Vs the top end of a Honda motor it's entirely different. I like this.
Brakes - seem to really grab. Not progressive - on or off. Take some adjustment.
Quality of interior finish. Not saying Honda is any worse but the fit out is very good.
Space awesome - why I bought the car. Boot is enormous. The hatchback function is great for my dog and bulky items. Lots of hooks an...Read more

Not quite Superb
10,000 kms in Superb Elegance TDI. Really love the motor - economical (low 5lts/100ks) and great acceleration for passing road trains. Most of my driving is rural or semi-rural.
Don't like the fake leather. The ride is a bit harsh on 17" alloys - would have been better to stick with 16" for Australian country roads.
Practical, reliable - everything works well. Quiet limo, huge wagon, moderate dimensions.
Harsh ride - consequence of good road holding with low profile tyres.

Simply Superb
I love my new 2011 Superb Elegance Wagon with 125 TDI. Interior is fantastic, and comfortable with many many extras and gadgets. On the road powerful and smooth riding, and joy to drive. Economy is very good, I am seeing close to advertised 6.4l/100km's. First trip on highway took it to 160km/hr with 3 surf boards on the roof and there was not so much as a tiny vibration thru the steering wheel.
Interior comfort, heated seats front and rear. Powerful and zippy 125 TDI with great economy. Looks amazingly nice, and handles great.
Small drink holders and sunglass compartment is also too small for some reason? They must wear little glasses and drink from tiny bottles in Europe?

Watch "supersize me" and you will see why they have small drink holders in European cars. They interviewed a french lady and she commented that the smallest drink from McDonalds in USA was equal to their large.

Fabulous
Where to start. Ok. We decided in January to replace our nearly 4 year old Holden Viva wagon. Great little car that it is/was, we were after something with more luggage space more than anything else. We had looked at the Octavia in 2007 when they were released and were impressed then so off we went to the local Skoda dealer and took both Octavia petrol 1.4 and 1.6 TDi for a drive. Great cars and should have just signed then and there. But no, decided to take a Superb out. Well, that was the end of that. Masses of room, HUGE boot on the wagon. H...Read more
andsome rather than good looking and more 'surprise and delight' than a box of chocolates. We had to wait 5 months for the car to be built thanks to requesting one option - the pull up rear door blinds, added as a resale item more than a needed-for-us one. Practical, handsome, very economical (4.7l/100klm Canberra to Sydney), great gearbox, huge amount of torque, front and rear parking sensors (how did I live without them?), umbrella in the left back door(!), luggage tie system, luggage bay lighting that unhooks to be a torch (!)....the list goes on. Nothing actually wrong. If I'm picky, the unladen ride is firm. If you carry more than 2 people in the car, you won't notice it at all.1 comment

Very Impressive Car
We ordered a new 125TDi Elegance wagon in December 2011 and it was delivered in April 2012. Have had it 4 months now and it is brilliant. Fuel economy is amazing: the sales brochure states a highway average of 5.6l/100km, we got a trip average of 5.4l/100km between Sydney and Port Stephens recently with two adults, three kids and the car loaded to the roof. I was amazed. After an entire weekend running around the peninsula and back home to Sydney we had travelled 480km and still had half a tank of gas left. The car drives beautifully, while not...Read more
a rocket, still has sufficient oomph. It has massive rear legroom and lots of storage. The interior feels very high quality, leather is standard. The DSG gearbox operates smoothly and without fault. The satnav was brilliantly easy to use until unfortunately it stopped working on the aforementioned trip away and now has to go back to service to be repaired. The standard stereo we have (you can get an upgraded one I believe) is average, the speakers sound harsh and struggle to not distort at only moderate volumes. Turn it up and they completely lose their cool. One downside of owning a diesel car is that they seem to get dirty very quickly and with black sooty dirt. Our car being white shows it up very quickly, literally within a day of being washed. But in the end we really really like this car and would very highly recommend it. Economy, quality, looks Satnav has died and stereo is average2 comments

Best luxury car money can buy under $50000
I purchased the 125TDI elegance sedan/hatch just over 2 months now. All I can say is "wow"!
I've always liked large luxury cars and I have owned other premium Euro brand which costs 3-4times for the same equipment, or other bluechip Japanese brand with same price and equipment level, but without the same quality premium feel, way worse handling, less technologically advanced and not as solid built as the skoda.

One of my guest from USA have commented why does he always fall asleep when he rides my car! The ride is smooth and quiet, the sound system is awesome. Put a Yo-Yo Ma's cello CD, and you can even smell the cello! The boot space is huge, the twin door system makes it even better as it is very easy to load large items. I know the wagon is even insanely larger. I could load a single bed mattress without problem. Fuel efficacy is also insane. My car is still kinda new so engine hasn't fully run I'm yet, but I'm already getting average fuel consumption of <7L/100km, and I haven't driven it out of Brisbane yet! WOW, Great Value for $$$$$$
I purchased my Elegance 125 TDI in Melbourne 1 month ago and drive it home to the Gold Coast and WOW am I impressed. This vehicle has all the bells & whistles, it looks good, drives great and has outstanding fuel economy. My 1800km trip delivered average fuel consumption of 4.9 ltrs / 100Km. My 16 year old son is almost 2 mtrs tall and he has plenty of room in the back seat. The DSG auto tranny is excellent, gear changes are quick and gear selection is without fault. And all this kit for under $50k
Fuel economy, size, build quality & technology
No tint on top of windscreen and sun visor is too small.

is comfortable and is very well finished. The rear is very spacious and the grand kids love the extra room when compared to their father's Mercedes. The two action tailgate gives another facility which has been put to good use. It is economical, even when driven in the city. Overall Excellent Car
Due to getting my Benz repaired, I hired a Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI. The VW influence in Skoda is obvious, and the build quality is exceptionally high. The four cylinder turbo deliver 118Kw and it punchy enough to accelerate quickly. It has a 7 gear, "dual clutch" auto box. Not sure what or why dual clutch is better or worse, or different from an ordinary auto box; but the gear changes are reasonably smooth.
It has a double boot, where the boot lid lifts OR the boot lid AND the rear window lifts, thereby somewhat blurring the distinction bet...Read more
ween an hatch and a sedan. The interior options are good, with dual climate control, heated seats, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, anti-dazzle mirrors, reversing distance thingy, and bluetooth. The only let downs are the brakes are far too sensitive and you may find your eyeballs on the windscreen if you brake too suddenly, and the suspension and handling is not up to par with the output of the engine. Still, it is very quiet inside. A great car, but not perfect. Standard kit, perky engine, adaptive headlights, Skoda computer Brakes way too sensitive and handling doesn't quite match the superb engine.2 comments

Hi
Actually I am looking to buy superb Skoda. Usually drive over 5000km a month mostly around city so can I get suggestions that which engine patrol or diesel should I go
Your suggestion would be very valuable for me
Thanks
3 answers
That is a lot of Km. Usually a diesel is better in these circumstances. If you are leasing then I would take a 3 year lease at 40-50% balloon then think whether you want or need to turn it over. If you can obtain a 5 year warranty then go for 5 years with 25% balloon (residual). If Skoda are offering fixed servicing costs then take that too.
Yes definitely the diesel is the more efficient option. If smoothness and quietness are important then the petrol will be significantly more pleasant at idle and will offer more linear torque off idle and throughout the entire range, if you are a performance enthusiast there is no other choice other than petrol. If it were me, petrol!
I would recommend petrol as well as it's easier to obtain from petrol stations however, if you're planning on driving on muddy surfaces then disiel is the better option plus diesel is sludge and if you somehow get into a traffic collision - there's less chance of catching on fire

Hey Sukh,
We've done +70,000 with the 125kw diesel Superb - my first diesel, goes like a dream. (once you adjust to the double-clutch auto at take-off). Overall 5.3 lt/100kms (mostly country), and plenty of power when you need it. Some mechanics say that for city driving, petrol's the way to go due to diesel injectors clogging - but if you have your car serviced properly, it shouldn't be an issue.

c, economy is great and the interior appointments, fit and finish is as good as or better than the premium brands; BMW, Mercedes etc. Concerns with DSG box are unfounded as theyes apply to earlier models before start of 2011 and were fixed by mid 2011 and start of 2012. Besides, they only affect the wet clutch 7 speed boxes and not the 6 speed dry clutch boxes as fitted to the diesels and V6. In closing I have no issues with Skoda or my Supurb. It makes me smile every time I drive it and isn't that what prestige motoring is all about?
