Great Player....when it works...
The picture, sound, navigation, build quality and versatility of this player is great. But sadly, as mine in an early version, it has many intermittent problems as many other owners of this player have encountered. The player will freeze and become totally unresponsive during playback which forces me to unplug the unit to turn it off. At which point it resets itself to factory settings and I have to enter all of my settings again. This happens quite regularly but It cannot be replicated on demand. As such Sony (and its repairer) have not fixed or replaced the unit which is very disappointing.
May I also state that when using a Panasonic 4K Blu-Ray player on the same Sony TV and Soundbar, none of these problems are present.
Purchased at Harvey Norman for A$499.00.

Sony UBP-X800 UHD Player
Sony UBP-X800 UHD Player, purchased to replace my almost dead Panasonic (turns off while playing UHD). The new machine had to tick these boxes, support Dolby Atmos, HDR, Upscale and be backwardness compatible. I looked at the LG and the newer Sony UBP-X700 deiced against these due to poor sound quality in a number of online reviews and the older Sony UBP-X800 was still listed in the top 5 in bang for your buck. Set up was easy, but i did follow some instructions online (set [BD audio mix setting] in [audio settings] to [off])to get the best HD...Read more
sound fields from the machine. It was a 3 plug set up, power, internet coax and HDMI cable, i don't like having too much hanging of wifi but the option was there. I fed the machine my first test disk Skyscraper 4K and set my Yamaha amp to Dolby Atmos, wow.... picture was clear with incredible detail and the sound awesome the reviews were correct. Only one real issue but not really an issue the loading time for a 4K movie is around 40 seconds, but just enough time to get a beer and relax for the feature.Purchased in August 2021 at West Coast HiFi for A$370.00.

Great 4k player, great features
This 4k player upscales my DVDs & Blu-rays (not full 4k but pretty good) so no need update my collection. An extra bonus is the hi res music function, it enhances your CDs & mp3s to near high res quality. I bought this player to watch DVDs & Blu-rays & found myself listening to CDs all afternoon coz they sounded so good!
You can download updates for this player too, so you can keep it updated which means it should always be up to date & last for longer before needing to be replaced with a new one. Dolby vision is a chip thing so unfortunately this player doesn't have it but everything else is great.
A little expensive but great quality.

Nice 4K uhd Blu-ray player
Had this unit a couple of weeks now and seems to work very well, has a lot of streaming options if your tv doesn’t already have them. The unit is very heavy so I would imagine the frame is well built and made to reduce noise and vibration. The only issue is the lack of a front display where at this price point I would expect one.
