I have been using my S2 for 2 months on occasion not every day and all of a sudden it does not seem to be getting any suction. I increased the settings and still it's not getting suction. Any ideas?

The blue attachment might have loosened. Maybe try that otherwise give spectra a call. They have amazing customer service. I use my Machine several times a day without an issue. It is also two months old!

occasionally one side will also have no suction and the white membrane in the back flow protector moves quite a lot. i usually try repositioning and make sure all parts are tightly attached. If you continuing to have issues with suction i would also recommend you contact spectra as they do respond quite quickly.

I agree with what has been said and would suggest you check the white membranes that are attached to the blue valve as it may not be making a seal it its damaged or weakened. They are quite fragile apparently but mine is still going strong after 4 months (first occasionally then regularly in the last month). Definitely give spectra a call or email.

Because there is not a rechargeable battery or car adaptor, I'm concerned about the mobility of it. Is the cord to plug into the wall long? And does it work well with a hands free bra?

Kellie
Kellie

The cord is about 1.8 metres long. I have bought two spare breast shield sets that I keep at work so all I have to carry is the unit and the power adaptor. It's a bit of a pain because I catch public transport but it fits well enough in my backpack with my lunch.

I made my own hands free bra out of an old sports bra. It works fairly well, however I think a proper purpose built hands free bra would be better.

Spectra
Customer Service T.Spectra

This is such a great response Kellie, thanks so much! Yes there are quite a few hands free / pumping bras that are compatible with the Spectra pump, or like Kellie suggested you can hack an old crop top haha!

The spare shield sets for work / travel is a great idea :)

Please get in touch if we can help you further!!

Can these pump parts be microwave sterilised?

2 answers

Hi I'm not sure about this but washing it with hot water will do the job as that's what written in the booklet provided with the pump.

Spectra
Customer Service T.Spectra

You can use a microwave steriliser to sterilise the bottles, flanges, backflow protectors and valves. I would simply wash in warm, soapy water once you've sterilised it for the first time though!!

Please let us know if you need any further support!

What hands free bra would you recommend with this product?

Sorry. I don't take long to empty at all (5 minutes max!) so no point for hand free bras for me...

Does this come with the option to pump both breasts at the same time?

Yep sure does. You will need to modify a crop top or buy a pump hiding bra though if you want to be hands free.

Renee
Renee

Yes it can be used to pump both breasts at the same time or one at a time.

Spectra

Hi Alexis! Yes our hospital grade pumps all come as doubles, but you can also single pump when you want to!! Like Morgaan suggested, grabbing a handsfree pumping bra is a great addition to a pump :)

Have a great day, be sure to shout out if you have any more questions!

Hi I Just bought a Spectra S2. My question is about cleaning and disinfecting before first use. It says disinfect the breast shield kit for 5 minutes in boiling water. and Note: Components of Kit.

However not sure which are the parts which need boiling?

2 answers

My understanding is that you have to sterilise all components before first use. You would normally want to sterilise any part that can come in contact with breast milk. I personally boiled all parts excluding the tubing for 3 minutes only, and washed the tubing in hot soapy water. Make sure you air dry the tubing thoroughly to prevent moisture entering the pump engine.

Spectra
Customer Service T.Spectra

Hi there! Thanks so much for your email - we would recommend that you sterilise all components other than the tubing - so this includes the flange, backflow protector, valve and bottles. Then let them air dry. Don't wash the tubing at all, it's not needed :)

Once you've sterilised them for the first time, we'd recommend just washing them in hot soapy water in future.

We actually have a great new manual we've produced for the S2 - feel free to email us at [email protected] and we'd be happy to email you a copy!

Kind regards

I have had the pump for about 4 weeks now, and I love it. I am facing one problem though. It sporadically shuts off. I'm.not talking the timer, I mean the unit shuts off randomly... after a few minutes. Sometimes it lasts 10 minutes off I am lucky. I checked the power cord and.source, I just can't figure it out. Anyone else have a similar problem?

Hi, I tried to double pump with s2 but it felt like there wasn't enough suction strength compared to single pumping,i had to turn up the vacuum to 5, which hurt my nipple (i usually stay at 3) is this normal or is it just my pump not working well?

Jass

Hi there,

The suction level definitely does drop when it goes from single to double pumping. I usually have mine up far higher than that (usually about 10-12!) but if you're exclusively pumping, that would probably start to hurt after a while. I would recommend experimenting with different suctions to see what you can tolerate, and use the lowest you can that will allow you to express a good amount of milk. Hope that helps!

Heidi S
Heidi S

Hi when I pump I start the let down setting at 4 until the milk comes through the change setting to vacuum and go up to 12 gradually I have bought the 28mm shields for my bottles which I found were better on my nipples and I also manipulate my breast when I pump to get more milk

Spectra
Customer Service T.Spectra

Hi there! Thanks so much Jass and Heidi for sharing your experiences too!!

Yes the suction does decrease a little when double pumping, which can need you to increase the vacuum strength a little. Definitely don't increase it to a point where it is painful though! Jass is right, you should experiment a little with the different settings to find the right 'fit' for you, and also make sure you're using the let down mode to encourage your flow! I tend to use the let down mode 2-3 times during each pumping session, to encourage a couple of let downs :)

Please shoot us an email if you'd like some more tips, we're always here to help!

Yes I've only ever turned it on and used it. It does have different settings but I have never changed them, it is very easy to use either letdown or pump mode and alter the suction up and down,

Hi there Julie!

The S2 is a fantastic choice - it is nice and quiet which is what you'll want it pumping at work, and is also super-efficient! We have a great product manual that we can email through to you which has a step by step assembly guide - although the pump is so simple to use you probably won't need the assistance!! There is a fantastic blog post on our website regarding deciding which pump is for you, you can take a look at it here if you would like!
