is it easy to clean the water compartment in the steam oven at bottom with holes for steam (written steam generator on it in videos)? I can see screw assembly on steam generator in videos which suggest it comes out of oven but holes on it still a challenge to clean in closed box meant for holding water.

Hi Varun,
The cover can be removed from the steam generator, allowing you to clean inside the reservoir with a sponge. It also doesn't get as messy as the rest of the oven due to having water inside and being covered.

I am looking for a 80 cm wide free standing with good reviews. Do genesi have one.

I dont think Steel make free standing cookers in 80c - non-standard width.

Ilve do but the model in question does not have great reviews.

You could get a cabinet maker to alter that space to fid a 90cm oven. Worth considering.

Also check out Harvey Normans Factory outlets in each state - they have a wide range of discounted free standing cookers (or at least the one in Melbourne does).

Hi Eroia,
Unfortunately Steel does not have an 80cm cooker range. The smallest upright cooker for this range is 90cm.
Ariston has one 80cm upright cooker with the code CP859MTX.

Can you please tell me the difference between the Ascot and the Genesi? Other than the colours? Also I am worried about cleaning. I wanted pyrolytic cleaning but Steel doesn’t have it - I noticed Steele doesn’t even have catalinic liners. Does the steam really help the cleaning?

Greetings,

Best ask the Steel guys about the difference between the two - at a glance, they look similar.

In terms of cleaning, I just did our first clean. The Steel guys recommend a product called "Salleys Oven Plus" - it is an oven cleaning Gel. It worked a treat. The Steel racks can easily upclip, so you are mostly cleaning smooth services. The Gel rips through it and was not a problem.

I still love this oven. We cooked a roast chicken the other night using steam - Soooo juciy.

Also look at the Harvey Norman "Factory outlets". They have one in each state. That was where I purchased my oven for under 40% of the retail cost.

Hope this helps.

Hi Yve,
The differences between the Ascot and Genesi ranges are largely with the design of the exterior: The two styles are to suit different kitchen designs,
As for the interior, Steel Genesi and Ascot ovens are now available with steam function and enamel interior which makes cleaning easier.

I was surprised it only had one fan in a fan of that size. Also is the use of steam in the Combi oven optional? In other words, does the oven work as well when not using steam.

My only feedback would be if the price is right buy it - I have the Genesi 6 burner oven steamer and its so much better than the other "luxurious" ovens (smeg..ilve etc).

Hi, just got a Steel built-in combination steam multifunction oven (90x60 GFE9-S). I have baked a few cakes in the oven using the upper and lower heating elements and my cakes come out looking pale and while cooked through, still tastes somewhat floury. I tried moving it one level up and added 10 minutes to the cooking duration and still get the same results. Does anyone have any recommendations on which is the best setting for cakes to come out looking golden and well-cooked? Thanks!

Hi Fadilah. I would suggest doing most of your baking on the combi-steam function, for beautifully golden brown and moist bakes. The only things that I have found don't enjoy steam so far are pavlova and a very delicate sponge cakes (essentially anything very eggy). Otherwise most cake batters, brownies/mud cakes, pastries, breads etc all love steam. I am the Steel Showroom Manager & Cooking Demonstrator so very happy to discuss and give you some pointers and, depending on your location, we might even be able to get you along to one of our demonstrations. Please give me a call on 1300 762 219 (ask for the Showroom) and I'll be happy to assist in any way that I can.

Kind Regards

Hi there, we have a gfe9-s which is the combi steam version and it is amazing. Had it for 18 months now and it hasn't missed a beat. Looks great, cooks amazing, simple to use and a lot cheaper than other comparable units on the market. Hope this helps

Hi, I'm keen to know how this oven performs for baking in particular bread (baguettes, ciabatta, scrolls, sandwich loaves) cakes and meringues. Does anyone have experienced they'd like to share?

I've baked cakes, scones, biscuits, muffins and hot cross buns. I've had to adjust my cooking times, temperature and experiment with the steam settings.
Muffins cook beautifully using 1/2 steam and the fan. The times vary. Anzac biscuits cannot be cooked with steam unless you want them soft.
My second batch of hot cross buns worked out very well. The temperature was 200 C for 8 mins using 1/2 steam, then 160 C for a further 10 mins still with steam. The first batch was a bit dry and overcooked using the recipe settings. Hope this helps.
