We have 2004 model Outback and 2004 model Forester. Both great. Both still running beautifully. Both come highly recommended by us.
I love the attention to detail, cup holders, glasses storage, extra ac points etc. The only reason we wouldn't get another Subaru is that we need a 7 seater and the Tribeca is missing all the things we love about Subaru. A lovely to drive car.
Looks and drive beautifully. Great size boot area - fits double mountain buggy with wheels on. Fits three kids car seats across backseat comfortably. Kids love big sunroof. Surprisingly good turning circle.
Premium petrol only.

We're still pretty new to the Outback as it only has about 4000k's on the clock but I am very happy with the purchase. I hear that fuel economy is best after traveling 15000k's which is my hope as I was expecting better that the ~8l/100k's we get at the moment. It's a bit hard to comment on things like handling as my only comparison is the L series Subaru we replaced with the Outback but between the 2 there is just no comparison, the Outback wins hands down in all departments other than fuel economy. I am surprised with the motor as was expecti...
Read moreng there to be more low down torque and find I often stalled the engine for the first 1000k's when taking off. Some reviews criticize the manual gearbox but I have no issues with it and chose it over the Auto. The high/low range lever doesn't change much in the way of gearing though. Extras - we purchased the genuine subwoofer to get a better sound and it does make a difference - not sure it is worth the price though. 3.5mm sound input into the sound system from the center console is a must IMHO and should not be an extra. We also talked them into throwing in the touring pack and it had a luxury pack already installed (leather seats etc)which is a bonus as this gear costs a small fortune buying genuine and it is quality gear. Not sure I like the powered seats though. Things I wish it had - spotlights (or option of) instead of fog lights, smaller engine, analogue economy gauge, volt meter. I hear the scangauge 2 (http://www.scangauge.com.au/) can do some of these tasks. Oddest point - the parking light is a rocker switch on top of the steering column, easy to knock on when cleaning, odd placement and many people get confused how to turn it off.- 47 reviews

We have purchased Subaru Outback 2.5i just over 12 months ago. It has been a good experience so far. Did not have any problems, regular service is not too expensive (did not have the major one yet) and staff at our Subaru dealership are most helpful. Leather interior is very comfy. Love the climat control, power windows and mirrors. Came with roof rack and towbar. Handles very well in wet weather on a muddy road. Only heard good comments from people who own Subaru.
Very nice, reliable car, drives well in all weather conditions
Expensive to purchase but better value than Forester, have to use premium fuel. Optional Subaru items such as cargo barrier - expensive
I feel its the safest car on the road with all power options and great driving experience with Ultra-Modern looks. its got plenty of extra's that you would have to pay a lot on any other car. Its the BEST car i have ever owned and great value for money.
Outback 2.5i: All the std features that come with Outback (all power options, cruise con, hill holder for manual model, dual range gear box for manual model) are brilliant. Ride is very comfortable and steering is really a POWER steer like turn with a finger. 2.5lt boxer engine with dual range g...

overall the car is a very good family car, for everyday use, and holidays, and camping trip, it is a very smooth drive and is powerful enough to pull boat trailers and horse floats.
good for pets, because there is enough room in the back to take the dog to the beach.
the car has a luxurious feel to it, but at eh same time has that outback, rough feel to it,it has a lot of room, and good comfortable seats. which are good for long car drives.and the sunroof for hot summer days,
not a very larger glove box, and the cd player has not been thought out very well

Nontheless, a great car if only it had the 5-speed box of the 3.0, the it would be fantastic. Good road manners and not at all tiring to drive long distance
Outback 2.5i Premium: Great car well built, nice to drive
lacks 5-speed auto, a lot to pay for leather seats, sunroof and window tinting.

98 is better than 95 and 91 due to higher density. I use 98 only and see no difference in cost. 91 comes a bit cheaper, but should not be used except emergencies. However, I did 500 km on 91 without a...
Read moreny hickup. City usage is high, but did 5000 km to SA and back on under 9 l/100 km staying on a speed limit.
