There were so many recalls and the service centre takes its own sweet time to give a time slot to fix it
Just after 6 years(i paid for extended warranty) the mirror switch failed.($190 )this came off the dashboard during warranty and when they put it back the downward adjustment stopped working.I had no time to go back.

Outback 2.5i Premium, 6-speed manual, bought brand new on 18 Mayember 2011 in Canberra from the dealer called Capital Subaru. Travelled 150,000km now.

Up until June 2018, not too bad. Routine service every 6 months as advised by Subaru.

The first big problem happened at about 20:00 on 10 June 2018. At that time, I was driving the car on Monaro Highway near Canberra. Ok so let's start with the bad points, I'm not overly keen on the digital heater control as I prefer to be able to just twist a dial and be done with it, but in the grand scheme of things it's not too bad, it does look good though.
The good points, where do I begin!!! I have the diesel engine which is super economical, easily gets 650-700km a tank on short trips and 800km plus on longer journeys.
The seats/interior is comfortable, durable and looks good. The boot is huge!

We purchased the 2.0L Turbo Diesel 3 weeks ago, and while this hasn't given us an awful lot of time to experience the vehicle personally, I can vouch for its mechanical ardour. We got a pre-purchase mechanical check and after 148k kilometres the only thing of concern was the battery, which was the original, lasting 8 years.

For a two litre diesel this thing is effortlessly swift for a large car. Great acceleration and cruising up steep hills for this size car.

Great long distance car absolutely amazing fuel economy consistent 4.6/4.8l per 100kms. consistent over 60,000kms of travel.

Inherent design flaw based on 1st gear not low enough under weight, towing or steep hill. Once you are going its fine but between 1st and 2nd gear up hill the ratios are too far apart to be happy.

The electric hill start brake activates based upon an arbitrary incline angle. Situations change based on the degree of incline so you wont know if and when the hill start will activate..or not.

So far, the best station wagon/light SUV I have owned. Very nice to drive, comfortable and fuel efficient given the comparatively heavy weight of the Outback. First Subaru. Second owner and presently done 105k km. Its OK. The fuel economy is excellent. While I enjoy driving it particularly out on the open road, it really isnt a city car - at least in the manual form. It does however have some problems. The clutch shudders and has done so since I acquired it at 40k km - dont believe it is worn and isnt getting any worse, more the dual mass design in crap. On going problem for the past 8 months where my vehicle did not have any power upon acceleration & a couple of lights appearing on dash. With only 120k on the clock and regular servicing. My mechanic performed diagnostic on vehicle and it showed that the turbo head needed replacing due to soot etc from diesel building up in turbo head. Rebuild of turbo head was not an option. I purchased my 2011 Outback Columbia with 7000km on the clock. It was virtually new and I've looked after it well. Dealer servicing costs are high so after the first service I do my own oil changes. There is almost nothing else for the first few service intervals. If you do your own servicing, make sure you identify the sump and don't drain the CVT transmission housing!
The CVT is an acquired taste. It sometimes takes a while to select the appropriate transmission ratio, so you won't burn off the hoons at the traffic lights. On the othe...Read more

2010 2.0l diesel manual we bought new and now 5 years old.
We bought the car because we live in a rural area and I wanted the wife to be safe when the dirt roads get dry or wet. Being predominantly the wife's car I didn't drive it all that much but loved it when I did especially on long trips. Amazing leg room in front and specially back seats and spacious boot.
