Thanks for this - have looked and used search facility but they don't seem to carry Sunbeam parts

Further, there doesn't seem to be any easy way to access the LCD display without literally pulling the machine apart, which doesn't seem a great idea with an sealed electrical appliance. I was hoping there might be some kind of re-set function.

Hi,

I can't get a decent loaf. No matter what recipe I follow the one in the manual or the ones that work perfect in my Breville bread machine. I needed a second machine to help with my large family and I just can't get a loaf that doesn't sink, or rise. All my ingredients are fresh and I make loaves in my other machine that work well.

has anyone had luck with certain recipes? only purchased 18th of January 2020 :(

Cheers Tash

It depends what program you select - if you do 'Whole Wheat' there is a delay of about 15 to 20 minutes, the other programs seem to start churning instantly. Good Luck

I got it working after taking all the ingredients out, then removed the baking dish and fiddled with the blade. I put it all back together. It works!

When I cook bread on the gluten free setting in the Sunbeam BM2500 it needs to be cooked longer than 2 hrs and 10 minutes. How do I change the cooking time on particular settings.

you cant change the time against a particular setting so I would set the machine to the next longest time but keep an eye on it for the last few minutes

Used my breadmaker for the first time today. Could see the bread had risen and formed at nice top. Next time I checked the dough had exploded inside. Why would this be? Used recommended quantities on box for making the Laucke Sour Dough bread.

Hello Jane J.
This could happen from a number of things, making bread is a trail and error kind of business. Yes, we do provide a guide but practice and feel will always win over following the steps to a T. Have a read of the below and see which one could be the reason for your situation.

1. When the dough has too much moisture in it, it can create extra steam inside the bread which will add to the pressure already build by the gases released by the yeast. All this pressure will cause your bread to burst and not release evenly from the slashes in your bread.
2. The loaf bursts due to pressure building up after the crust hardened. You can try to fix it by scoring the bread, which allows air to escape just enough where it wont burst. Slashing or scoring your bread is basically giving your bread a chimney or ventilation. However, make sure you don't wait too long between slashing the dough and putting it in the oven. Waiting too long can make this ventilation close up, putting you and your bread in square one.
Also, make sure you slash the top deep enough. A good 3/4 inch deep is probably advised.

Does the Sunbeam Bakehouse Compact use a lot of energy?

It uses 410-450W. I used a SA government appliance running cost estimator (I'm in WA, found it online), and used the following fields:
Cost of electricity: 28c per kWh (yours may be different, check your power bill).
Power rating: 450
Usage per day: 2 hours (based on using it 4 times a week for 3.5 hours each time)
Calculator comes up with---
Daily running costs: $0.25 (or in my case, 44c per loaf of bread)
Quarterly running costs: $22.93

Still pretty cheap for your own artisan bread, I really like the Sunbeam Compact Bakehouse, and bear in mind that if you decide to just keep buying expensive bread from your local gourmet baker, the cost of the power to bake it has already been factored into the price.

Hi mollydooka, the wattage is 450 watts. This is comparably low compared to say a toaster or kettle that may be 2000 or 2400 watts.

Thanks for replying, but my answer was a response, not a question. See question above from Ilona C.
My statement that it uses "410-450W" is taken from the back of the machine, where the label shows "410-450W".
I know that it's "comparably low", that's not what Ilona C. was asking. Please see her question and my full response, cheers.

Hi Gayell. This doesn't come in pink. I think it's an error with the picture on the site you are looking at. The colouring is slightly off.

Can anyone tell me how to disable the five beeps to put in raisins etc? We like to bake bread overnight, but we get those annoying beeps at 3.00am. I use settings 1 and 2 for basic and French loaves.

Hi Davidg! Unfortunately there is no way to disable the beeping. It is programmed into the machine to remind users when to add their fruit mixes.

I have just purchased the Sunbeam Bakehouse compact BM2500, and had to replace it as the crust control does not work with Menu 7 Gluten Free. I contacted Sunbeam support for the first one and they agreed that it was an electronic fault and needed to be replaced. The replacement has the same problem and is also a great deal noisier than the one I bought a week ago and returned. The recipe section for gluten free bread on page 20 of the manual states that the crust control be set to DARK. Well, that's not happening and the bread looks so pale! Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi! I have a Sunbeam Bakehouse about 15 years old which worked very well until I put it in storage for about 6 years. I pulled it out a couple of days ago put in ingredients and tried to program it. Couldn't get the crust colour on the screen and whilst it kneaded the dough beautifully and the mix rose perfectly it failed to bake. Tried it twice but no success. Do the programmes/screen displays deteriorate over time? Has the element 'rusted'? It is a great machine so is it worth repairing? My Sunbeam Mixmaster is handed down and is about 40 years old and runs like a dream by the way.

15 years is a good run. Sounds like heating element may have gone. If it was mine I'd replace with a new unit and forget repair.

Sunbeam
Brendan K.Sunbeam

Hi Richard,

I think bigalgeorge is on the ball when he says the heating element is gone. All the other functions seem to be working which would suggest that the PCB is working, but when it's not baking, one can only assume the lack of heat means the element's not working. For a machine that old, it's unlikely that the replacement parts are available, or that a service agent would be familiar enough with the product to repair it. I think it would be far more cost effective to purchase a new machine. Why not jump on our website ( www.sunbeam.com.au ) and have a look at the different breadmaker options we have.

Kind Regards,

Well it's a bit noisy, However I haven't heard another one to compare it to. Though I can set it to start in the middle of the night and leave the bedroom door open, and it doesn't wake me, and I'm a reasonably light sleeper. The machine would be less than 10 metres from the bed.

Dennys Nash
Dennys Nash

Hi. well yes it makes a noise, but no more than other machines. I would say it isn't loud, just doing its thing when mixing the bread mix! When its baking you can't hear it.

Has anyone tried the Laucke breadmix packet in this machine? I have this machine and have used the laucke breadmix for small 750g loaves and the dough has risen over the top of the pan and hit the lid every single time. Has anyone else experienced this?

I use the laucke rye sourdough pack - 3 1/2 cups of their mix, 360mls water and 3/4 tsp yeast works for me. Any extras I want in there i just add in in top. I didn't realise they had a small machine mix. I've only tried this mix so not sure about the others :)

Sunbeam
Brendan K.Sunbeam

Hi Emma, standard Laucke breadmix is in a pack of 600gms which makes a kilo loaf. You will have to adjust or perhaps buy bulk bag and measure out only 500gms breadmix.

Emma
Emma

Thank you for your responses. I have tried using the bulk mix and measuring out the 500gm exactly but it still hits the lid of the machine & rises over the top of the pan. I have followed the recipe to the letter so not sure what's happening! I was putting it out there to see if anyone else had experienced this? The only way I have gotten around it is to reduce all the ingredients by 75%.
