Great value and durable.
I have had one of these for some years now... 8+ years or so.
I can't help but feel that POSSIBLY the quality of this unit has declined over the years. On a couple of occasions, I have fiddled with more recent examples in appliance stores, and noticed subtle differences such as lighter aluminium casting and lighter, more "plasticky" phenolic handles on the carrier.
Mine has operated without fault since I purchased it. No leaks, very little wand corrosion and little to no rust on the metal parts... which is down to care and maintenance anywa

The carrier doesn't provide a great seal when the filter paper gets in the way, and as a result a lot of water manages to sneak around the pod and into the cup, diluting the brew, and you end up with a half-dry pod and some weak coffee. So, best to stick with ground coffee. I have always used this unit in conjunction with a Sunbeam 600w Power Stick, complete with GrindMaster conical burr attachment. These were a bonus with the machine, and have worked flawlessly. No longer available, annoyingly. Come on, Sunbeam!! Anyway, a setting of 7 - 7.5 on the GrindMaster gives a medium-fine grind which is ideal for the Cafe Crema. Any finer and the grind gets a bit too far towards "Turkish"... and the pump begins to struggle getting the water through the carrier. Trial and error out of the way grind-wise, and this is a good machine. Again, quality seems to have suffered on later examples, which is a shame. I guess I'll keep using this one as I have for nearly a decade, until it finally goes bang.
Not a durable machine, will not last, unrepairable.
Worked well for a couple of years but started leaking around the brew head + pumping as soon as it was turned on. Ive opened up the unit and the main hot water selector is made of plastic and over time will crack. It is the number 1 cause for most of the problems experienced in above reviews as hot water sprays into the inside of the unit. This causes water to build up and leak down over the brew head. It also wets the selector switches causing them to stay on which is why the coffee machine start pumping the instant it is turned on. Not designed to last or be repaired, not a great product.

, Now is three years and still working in a good condition. Very important to ground the coffee right. Very easy to clean. Also, the size suits a small or medium kichen.

I bought one of these years ago and it was great. It started leaking around the group head seal so I replaced the seal, an easy and cheap job. About 6 months later it leaked again so I decided to replace it. Worst idea! Despite being the same model number you could tell that Sunbeam had reduced the quality. The portafilter was about half the weight. Like nearly everyone else on the forum, it started overheating, leaking, and then just today the pump turned on by itself and wont turn off. And I cant even buy a new one, because the latest versio

Disappointed with EM4300 Machine
I recently bought a sunbeam EM4300 machine and the the machine is broken within 3 weeks. Every time I try and make a coffee it pumps most of the water down the steam wand. I have cleaned the machine and filter basket, reset the machine, tried to use the Shot Volume Programming but to no avail.

Disappointed by Sunbeam
I bought this coffee machine in December 2015 and it went faulty in June 2017 - it kept making the power trip. After calling the customer service, Sunbeam replaced the unit, but now it has broken again! The off/on button isn't working anymore and it keeps overrunning. I question the quality of the machines if it keeps breaking every two years. Can you customer service do anything for me?

Very disappointed and I won't buy another Sunbeam.
This was my 2nd Café Crema machine. 1st was replaced under warranty. Had this one 2.5 years but I only make 1 coffee a day usually. Started overheating then leaking everywhere until finally the pump wouldn't turn off & I had to unplug it. Imagine if I had been out, the house could have burned down. Very unhappy & I won't buy another Sunbeam machine.

Sunbeam EM4820 common fault
Reading the reviews this machine has a common fault, Overheating.
My older model Sunbeam lasted 15 years, this peice of junk lasted less than 2 with low usage (not everyday) . I understand this is out of the warranty period but after reading that overheating is a common problem I would expect that it would be replaced. Sunbeam are declining to replace the unit which is dissapointing.

I called Sunbeam and spoke to Jemma again. She still says they can't do anything because the product is out of warranty.
Hi Rob,
So sorry for the experience with your coffee machine and service. Please call in again on 1300 881 861 with your purchase receipt details. If the original purchase date is November 2017 we would love to assist you further.
Customer Support - Second to None :)
We have had several versions of this product over the years --- all have made perfect coffees (at least 6 a day) -- for the price/performance it cannot be beaten. Sunbeam warranty and product support (accross multiple products ) is incredibly good... the demeanor of their staff cannot be faulted .... I am a very satisfied user/customer

Acceptable Coffee For 2 Years and Half Then In The Bin
I bought this product from Harvey Norman 2 years and 6 months ago (17/04/16). Coffee is not too bad, maybe not hot enough. I did scale the machine every 6 months as suggested when I first bought it.
Then a couple of days ago, without even pressing the power button, the machine started while I was having a shower. It used all water contained in the reservoir and flooded the bench.
I then called the support number (1300 881 861). As outside of the warranty (12 months) they will not do anything. Even repair is not possible as the machine ha

After having the previous model for years which performed perfectly until the rotary valve failed, I decided to replace it with the new version Em 4820. Although the build quality was not as robust as the old model it made excellent coffee until 13/14 months old when it started leaking water from the upper part of the machine across the width. Next thing the steam button would not illuminate followed by the pump putting water through the brewing head instead of the frother. It started making some worrying noises and would not switch off so I turned it off at the power point and now nothing works, seems electrical goods are made to just get through the warranty period which is disappointing.

Its OK but wouldn't get the same one again
I was rapt when we found this on special at Target but over time have come to use it less and less. We eventually put it in a cupboard while we cleaned up and haven't bought it out again. I have gone back to using the old stovetop machine which I like very well. The reason? Its just not very good. Its OK and it works but the coffee it makes isn't worth the effort of cleaning and preparing it. Bland results from the machine. Would NOT but the same again
Show detailsHi Cany5, sorry to hear you are not using the machine. Could I suggest maybe trying a different coffee blend? This may help to improve the quality. I would also like to suggest you give our Customer C

Average machine - wouldnt buy again
My review is going to be like many of the others here. My sister has the old model and I always wanted to same exact one as it makes consistently great coffee. I bought this, the exact same name but the "mark 2" version and it is nowhere near as good. Results speak for themselves and I am very familiar with both machines. Hers makes delicious coffee this one does not. I don't know if Sunbeam saved money or what, It works but I cannot recommend this machine.
Show detailsHi Argon5, thanks for taking the time to post a review. What exactly is the problem with your machine? Maybe I can be of assistance.
This is not as good as the old model
We replaced our much loved Cafe Crema 1 with this - big mistake! The only thing they have carried over is the name. This is just no match for the old model and I realised straight away as soon as I used it. I just can't do the "crema" at all. The old one had a cult following because it was great for a reasonable price and pulled a mean extraction. This new version just puts out luke warm bitter water. We stopped using it. Not happy, Jan.

I like this machine, will not last more than a year
I purchased one of these units 6 years ago and it broke down after 5 years (acceptable), so I bought another last year, which broke down within a year (which was fully replaced - Thankyou ),the replacement model has now broken down within a year ( not acceptable) .
I suspect originally the product was good, but is now being made with inferior parts, even the exchange model had a different inferior group handle . So now moving on to a different brand
Hi Disappointed ....so sorry to hear that your coffee machines has failed in a relatively short time.
Questions & Answers
what setting do you put the machine on to froth milk
This is our third Sunbeam Crema coffee machine but this last one was only purchased on 6/12/18. We have cleaned it etc but the steam wand spits out so much water we can’t froth the watery milk mix. So disappointed as our other Sunbeam coffee machine lasted longer.
Regards Kathy S.A.
Did you try cleaning with a vinegar solution to clean out any hard water deposits which might hold the solenoid open causing the leak? If you use only filtered water with them they tend to last longer.
Hi, my machine won't turn off. Last time I turned it off it started again and I had to turn it off at the socket to stop it. Now it's stuck on. Can this be fixed.
Hi Karen.
I was gifted a used one of these units (secondhand) a few months ago and it was working perfectly until recently. Like you, one day I couldn't switch it off via the front panel switch, so I had to switch it off at the wall. As I have been a TV repair technician in my past, I decided to see if there was anything I could do to repair it myself. To cut a long story short, I found that the button adjacent to power button was jammed in. This was not immediately evident as these two buttons don't move in/out very much. Anyhow, I managed to restore full function by gently levering out the jammed steamer button, which until after I'd pulled it apart, could have been done from the front of the unit without having pulled it apart. Also I noted that if the steamer button is jammed in when the unit is already on, it won't switch off and if it was off with the button jammed, it won't switch back on.
I hope this helps with you unit.
Regards Peter
Thank you Peter we'll have a look at that sounds hopefull. Cheers
