Suzuki swift 2014 auto navigator, just had front brakes replaced and still squealing had it back to dealer 3 times and they tell me they cant find an issue... also i need to update the garmin satnav, is there a cost involved ? And is it easy to do, as im not that computer savy...

Hi Hawk,
There can be numerous reasons for squealing brakes ; brake dust build up, not machining rotors before fitting new pads, incorrect fitment of pad retention clips and so on. If you are unhappy with the noise, have an independent brake specialist listen to them, and give you an opinion. Its easy for dealerships to dismiss customers concerns around a lack of their knowledge. An independent expert opinion will help you gets some accountability from your dealership. One of the main reasons i dont use dealership mechanics is because they are unapproachable by the customer. The service manager is the point of contact and he is not the one that works on your car. Really hard to get the bottom of things in situations like this.
As for your Sat Nav update. There is a process of downloading a later version of maps to a new blank SD card. You can't download updates to the older card. But if your not computer savy, its probably going to be easier to either get someone else to do it or purchase one from ebay. The price will vary depending whether you want a genuine suzuki product or an aftermarket version.
Hope this helps

Just wondering if a 2011 suzuki swift bumper will fit on a 2007 suzuki swift model? Or are they different sizes etc?

1 answer
Steve
Steve

Hi Chelsea,
Unfortunately there are significant differences between these two models, given how many years apart they are. The most noticeable difference is the head light shape. Its a more elongated on the 2011 model. Because the bumper wraps around the lights, any difference in the lights will have the bumper not either not fitting, or looking terrible if you manage to get it on. I suspect the mounting points would also be different. So the short answer is no it wont fit. Sorry

Hi my swift sometimes will not drive off after stopping in traffic. I have to restart to correct the issue. What can I do?

Hi Robwayn,
Im presuming that your talking about an automatic transmission. Ive never owned an auto swift but this is what id do if it was my car. Provided that you are seeing no other problems with your transmission like, intermittent gear change issues or unsual sounds and youve had regular servicing carried out.
What you have stated as a stand alone issue sounds unusual so my first guess would be that its electronic in nature. Your engine talks to your transmission through an engine management system. By turning the car off and on its almost like a soft reset of that system. Id be getting a mechanic to connect a scan tool to the engine management system and checking for problems there as the first step. Its quick and simple and shouldn't cost much as a starting point. Hope this helps in some way.

Is the capped service the same price by all Suzuki dealers?

Hi John,
In the 8 years I've owned swifts, I've never used dealer servicing, except for the first inspection. They haven't been quite as cheap as my own mechanic. But it is my understanding that capped price servicing is a national deal. So the price should be the same wherever you have your car serviced in Australia.

How many belts does a Suzuki Swift 2005 have? I have recently had ???? belt (not sure what the name of the belt was the mechanic just said belt) changed as it squealed pretty bad. My car is squealing again (sometimes) so I figure there must be another belt ? What will happen if it breaks while I'm driving it?

Your swift will only have one belt that runs your alternator which charges battery, airconditioner compressor and your power steering pump. The very worse thing that would happen if it broke suddenly would be that your car would feel harder to turn the steering wheel. A squealing belt is not necessarily a worn belt. A belt that needs tensioning will squeal when it comes under load, like when your turning the wheel of the car or when the airconditioner is on. New belts quite often need to be retensioned soon after fitment because they stretch a little when new. Its probably the same belt thats squealing and it just needs a little more tensioning.
Hope this helps

I also had an experience where I had a worn belt which would squeal, I then got a new one put on at a dealer, and it continued to squeal. Turned out the dealership had not lubricated the belt. Another mechanic gave it a quick run over with a soap-bar like substance and the squeal went away and the belt works fine to this day. If anyone knows the proper name for the soap-bar like material, please advise.

Hi I have a 2015 SWIFT SPORT AUTO. Yesterday we noticed a weird sound which increased as we increased speed then went away at 80kmh. To me it sounded like something was stuck in the wheel and was catching as we drove the car. My husband jacked the car up and spun the wheels and found nothing. He now thinks its a gearbox problem. Any ideas?

I'm sorry, I do not have an answer for you. I have a, 2016 model. Maybe you should get in contact with Suzuki or a mechanic specialising in Suzuki sports

I have a lot of experience with a similar sounding noise, in my 2005 Swift S manual. I would suggest looking at your wheel bearings. I did drive with a worn wheel bearing for 18 months without a breakdown, so do not worry too much haha once I replaced the right wheel bearing, the noise stopped completely.

Sorry, I can't help. So far I haven't adjusted the 2 clocks that tell different times in my car. One was set by the Dealer, the other wasn't. I find the car's handbook unfathomable

Looking to buying a 2007 Swift. When opening the bonnet, see rust in places like the bands around the pipes and some dotted light rust spot marks on the steel/silver parts in the engine. Took it for pre-purchase report and nothing was mentioned but why will there be rust under the bonnet in the engine?

1 answer
Thaifan
Thaifan

You should pay the NRMA (if in NSW) to inspect the car before purchasing, I am not mechanically minded, but rust in the engine bay, might indicate the car had/has fluid leakage from a hose or where a hose connects to a metal connection. Perhaps the car was not driven after washing it, and water somehow runs into the engine bay and ponds on flat ledges.I never wash any of my cars, using a dry (spray) detailer, which is sprayed over the duco, and very lightly wiped off with micro fibre cloth. The paint was immaculate at 17 years on my just sold Pulsar. Like you, I can only guess there has been some fluid leakage. Are you sure it is rust, and not some stain caused by the engine coolant have leaked over the bay at some time? Sorry, I cannot help you more.
